    A good replacement valve is a W10408179
The valve I installed was a cheaper Supco Dual Coil Refrigerator Valve WV8046, and so far its been working fine. Though it is a little louder than the last one.

This video saved me at least 300 bucks. I found the part online for 19 bucks. When I called a local appliance repair, they wanted 100 bucks to show up and diagnose. So you know it would've been 100 or more for the part from them and another 100 or more for the labor. So thanks, great video!

Thanks for these terrific instructions, Adam. I just fixed my Maytag refrigerator with the generic part. Like you, I had a problem inserting the compression fitting to the smallest hose. I soaked the hose in boiling water for 30 seconds and that made it much easier to insert the fitting. I had trouble mounting the the valve to the side of the refrigerator, so I stuffed it behind the flap and tested it to make sure nothing was leaking. Presto, I fixed my leaking water valve, and the whole shebang cost me less than $25. I really appreciate your thorough instructions. This proves that even a bonehead like me is capable of making some basic repairs!

Wow, this is exactly what is happening to my Whirlpool fridge. Ice maker stopped and water drips like crazy. I ordered the part on Amazon and will install on Tuesday.
Like you said in your video, when one appliance goes bad they all start to go bad. I replaced the keyboard in my laptop, fixed the charging port on my Kindle, replaced rear car bumper and now this!
Well, Amazon sent the wrong part so, I had to wait. I received the correct part yesterday.
I finished installing the valve 2 hours ago and all seems well(knock wood)!
This tutorial made it so much easier than the printed instructions that came with the part.
    Thanks

Wow, I'm so glad I found this DIY. My fridge was leaking and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why. I finally closed the water valve and didn't use it for months. Anyway, ordered the part but as you warned, it wasn't an EXACT fit. I figured mechanically they are the same, besides once the water lines were attached, the tension made the assembly not move at all. Because it wasn't an exact replacement, it wouldn't bolt onto the metal adapter. I ended up zip tying them so it is nice and tight. Thank you for sharing and saving me (and others) lots of money. Anyway, I did this about 2 weeks ago and no leaks!

    Nice video, thanks for posting.
When inserting the brass fitting into the smaller tube (7:00), it helps to get a small pan of water boiling, then set the pan on the floor and submerge the end of the tube for about 15 seconds. This expands and softens the plastic, and the fitting should go in a lot easier.

Thank you!!! Ours had started dripping. I didn’t get as lucky as you. There was no part number but it looked the same. I ordered from Amazon as well. Fingers crossed 🤞!! As my wife was gone I took the opportunity to vacuum out underneath. OMG! I found the dust bunny deliver room!! Used my air compressor to blow out what the vac couldn’t reach. Will have to vac the kitchen & family room next. Need to find video on removing the panel at the bottom. The bunnies that didn’t make it to the floor are trapped in the Louvers.

Adam, thanks so much for the video. I wouldn't have had a clue what to do without it. I agree, though, with another user that the exact part for this is a Whirlpool W1048179; your original part number, 2188746 matches it, as do part numbers 2186486, 2188622, 2205762, 2255457, 2304757, 2315534, 4389177, W10408179, PS733408, PS3497634 AP3160649 and AP5263471. The Supco replacement part is WV8179 (the last four digits are the same as the Whirlpool part number). I ordered the Supco from Amazon, and am waiting for it to arrive.
To stop the drip from the water dispenser while I wait for the part, I plugged the dispenser with a piece of round rubber garden hose washer.

Adam: Thanks for the GREAT instructions and video. You were extremely clear. You saved me a bundle and it was easy to do. The hardest task was picking the replacement part. For others, the one I got from Amazon was more like the original part. It didn't use the screw top pressure connector, but instead simply required pushing in the tube. I figured all the way in meant pushing it until it wouldn't go any farther.
Everything in the area of the part was majorly dusty. I took having the bottom exposed as a chance to blow the dust off the coils and wipe the fan blades clean. Hopefully this will help the frig run more efficiently?
If you're in metro Boston, I'll gladly buy you one. Not what the repairman gets for showing up though 🙂

It was nice to not have that extra variable in the mix as I worked through the process, but probably not worth the extra $40. This is such a quick, easy repair. My advice to other cowards is to get the universal part like the man says.

I’m having dripping coming out of the water dispenser. It drips slowly during most of the day but it drops faster at night and I believe it’s happening when our sprinklers are on at night (while the water pressure is less.) Do you think I need to change this same part like you did or it could be something else? I was wondering if it means I need to change the water pipe in the front of the fridge behind the water dispenser panel? Would love your advice! I’m a woman and not knowledgeable about repairs so I’m very thankful for your channel! ☺️

Well I like the video. I also like mason 's comments. Also I would have flushed the incoming water line into a pail for a couple minutes, why? Debris tend to sink to the bottom of the incoming water line, (under the house)... so shutting off the valve at the wall changes the pressure in the line for a moment such that dirt is kicked up into the main central flow of water when the valve is turned back on--in the incoming pipe and dirt can be thrown up into the new valve... learned this from experience where I had to take the new valve apart and clean out the dirt. After the new valve is in, I would work on the old valve and see if you can clean dirt or carbon fines out of it and make it reusable...probably just a 10 cent O-ring. I like 90,000 views just fine as well.

Thank you for the video. I wonder if I have the same problem. My dispenser doesn't leak until it has been used. After I use it and take away the glass, the water continues to flow for a moment (about a cup of water) and then it stops until I use it again. Is this the same issue or something else. Again, thanks for the video.

Gteat video Looks like you have hard water the valve easily clogs over time if you take the tops of the valve off you will see the scale build up. To avoid build up a presoftner filter goes inline. That way you don't need with ruined floors after being gone

Great video - thanks for your insight!
I ordered the same replacement part (we share identical model numbers), and everthing was going smoothly until I realized the configuration is different when there is an on-board water filter, which changes how the lines run. I'm attempting to share a pic to see if you've come across this. (The water line comes into the part assembly, runs to the filter, then back to the water valve for icemaker and water dispenser. All of this is contained in one piece/part/mechanism.)
The Supco part is used for direct connection to the valve and does not provide the ability to use the refrigerator's water filter.
Would you have any suggestions for another part/method that will fit this configuration?
    Cheers!

Use a little olive or coconut oil to get line to slide in easy.
