I just love Mexico City.I (Niko) lived there for about 4 months in a part of the city called Colonia Doctores.Love the architecture of the cathedral and all the beautiful murals around the city.
Yeah, we fell in love with it too. We figured out that we need to go back again to discover more, it has so much to offer and such a cool vibe, so beginning of September we are heading back! Thank you for your comment.

The pendulum in the Metropolitan Cathedral of CDMX indeed keeps a record of the cathedral's position and movements over the years. The plaque in the floor has dates that mark how the cathedral has moved over the years. This also helps the engineers observe the behavior of the building for the implementation of foundation works that have been done in the past to keep it upright.
Another fun fact is that El Castillo de Chapultepec (Chapultepec Castle) is the only royalty castle in the whole American continent ever built and the park grounds is twice the size of Central Park in NYC.
Thank you very much for your comment. Indeed, it is an impressive work of engineering to keep track of the movements of the building. I hope last nights earthquake did not move the building much.
Oh I'm sure it's now tilting the other way. LOL. I have a friend that lives in Veracruz, located on the Gulf of Mexico, and he felt the earthquake all the way over there.
Correction guys, we do eat lots of different insects in Mexico but NEVER cockroaches. Also what you were eating in the upscale restaurant looks like what we call "Mole" which is a sauce made of at least 5 different types of chilies, chocolate, brown sugar, cinammon, almonds, peanuts, corn, raisins, tomatoes, garlic, sesame seeds, etc. etc. etc. A very elaborate and time consuming dish to prepare and something invented by the indigenous people from Puebla a state south east of Mexico City and not bean sauce.
Thank you for your comment. We could not imagine either that you eat cockroaches and you were right, in the upmarket restaurant, it was a "Mole" dish, which we enjoyed a lot. The restaurant was the Azul Historico in the Downtown complex.
Just came back from Mexico. This time from Jalisco, but your México City vlog is making me reminisce about my trip there 3 years ago! Thanks for sharing!
what a great video! i'm now checking your channel! it's a shame Zocalo it's closed because of the remodelation, it's a quite big area and have a great views of cathedral and national palace. And the monument down the Castle it's a monument to the defenders of the nation from the mexican american war, because Chapultepec was the last big battle before we lost the war. Hope you had a great time here!
In regard with the plumb in the center of the Cathedral, it is marking the subsidence that the church suffered from the beginning of its construction untill the years 80's in the last century when the Cathedral had suffered the maximum sinking because the weight of it and the unstable subsoil where it was built and the plumb also marks the recovered balance by the church after the stabilization works were made.
Surely not, in fact the earthquake in the city was very soft and this is because Mexico City is far from the place of the earthquake's epicenter I think 1000 km from the city.
I came across your channel, so glad I did! I'm actually visiting Mexico right now, but I fly out tomorrow! I will take some of your travel advice and ideas for next time! Cheers!
welcomed to Mexico....and YES...Mexico is the center of the universe.........will prove it later on...😆...saludos me agrada que esten comodos en mi patria
you guys should go to the "museo de la Inquisicion" "spanish inquisition museum" very scary, but not as scary as the museum of the mummies in the state of Guanajuato Mexico city is huge, and each state its a country in the country, a lot of culture that not even mexicans know it all
Excellent...I like your blog... Mexico City was founded by the Aztecs in 1325... the name was Tenochtitlan ( the hill island w/ cactus) 1521 the Spaniards conquer abd and become Mexico City, The Zocalo..official name "Plaza-Square of the constitution..is called Zocalo = means base of monument that was going to stand in the main plaza.
patricia yague Thank you very much ! We are indeed a bit behind with the videos, reality moves fast... keep following, next video comes out on Thursday.
The Cathedral Metropolitana...it took 300 years to build...from 1435 to 1735.. because of the conquest to Independence. The main architect was 'Manuel Tolsa " from Spain.
Hello Ally, the restaurant in this movie is the Azul Historico, it is located in the Downtown Design Hotel Complex. Have a look at our other Mexico City vlogs for more culinary ideas and also our Mexico City guide on our blog thewaywesawit dot com. Thank you for watching.
Great video! I think that dish with the chicken and sesame seeds is called Mole, which does not contain any beans it contains about 8-10 other ingredients/spices
I exhort you to visit the State of Guanajuato, the city of the same name, Guanajuato and the mummy museum, Leon, Dolores Hidalgo (where the War of Mexico's Independence broke up in the dawn of September 16, 1810), and San Miguel de Allende.
Thank you for watching and your comment. Mexico is a big country and there are so many places to see. Guanajuato and the places you mention are on our list of places to see, so next time we are in Mexico, we will hopefully be able to post some interesting films from these. Have a wonderful day.
hi guys!! didn't know you speak portuguese! lolol Great vídeo as always. Love the Cathedral and your dinner. Try to find Pasteleria La Ideal.A massive spot of cakes. just amazing!! ugs
Hello, nice video. The pendulum in the cathedral in the zocalo is to help measure how much the building has moved (so I have been told). Not sure exactly how it works, but it has a lot to do with what you were explaining regarding the city "sinking" into the ground which causes the buildings to become distorted. Thanks for sharing.
Philip Casso Its about floor is deeping down because remember old Tenochtitlan was build over a lake, then Cathedral is losing its horizontal level, you can see how floor is moving about its original vertical line, now its not perfect vertical anymore ..
¡Hola! How often will you be posting videos and what are they going to be about? :) By asking that I mean, what's the main subject of your video blog. Thinking about subscribing to your channel. Saludos desde Colima, México
+Daniel Aguayo Hello Daniel, thank you for your comment. Our channel "The Way We Saw It" is a travel vlog where we post once to twice a week (depending on the internet access) reviews on the places we visit as seen through our eyes, independently without sponsoring. Once in a while, we try to make different videos on the real life of the places we visit. Have a look at our latest, it is more about the people than the destination. Greetings from Mexico City, hope all is well with you.

Wonderful Vlog guys. Been going through your previous vlogs that were very interesting and informative. How safe is Mexico City compared to Lima, Santiago, Rio, and Buenos Aires?
+Krishnakumar Kalaiarasan Thank you for your comment, greatly appreciated. Mexico City is like all Latin American cities, if you stay at the "safe" areas and avoid certain areas, you are perfectly safe. In none of these cities we felt threatened at any moment. You need to keep your valuables hidden and melt in as much as possible. Mexico City has a lot of demonstrative police presence in tourist spots as they know the value of tourism, this adds to the security feeling.
The Way We Saw It thanks for the reply guys. Wish you guys a wonderful trip ahead. Make more interesting videos. If your adventure brings you to Asia, i would share with you some tips and tricks. Good day.
Krishnakumar Kalaiarasan it is as safe as you like to be if you go to the unsafe areas as in any city in tve world you will be in risk greetings from Mexico
That was an interesting fact about Maximilian having an affair with the gardener's daughter and having an offspring from it! One of my ancestors Luis Blasio was Maximilian's Secretary from the beginning till the end of his kingdom, he wrote an interesting book "Maximiliano Íntimo" here is a link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Luis_Blasio just in case you guys want to read about it, also I wanted to be clear that I wasn't bragging about being related to him!
I'm glad you guys enjoy it! BTW I just noticed that you guys were there during the earthquake! gladly nothing happened to you. Regards from Portland OR another majestic city.
The Way We Saw It come to Gaydalajara(Guadalajara) there's many gay people here and gay places, you'll love it 😍 😁 Guadalajara is the gayest city in Mexico if you didn't know that
The pendulum marks the levels the cathedral back to normal due to the gigantic work to save it from sinking unevenly in the ground were was a lake! There's a complex hydrolic sistem to do that
Your welcome, Next time you want to see different places in Mexico let me know I will take you places people don't know Chek Cuicuilco, Tula Hidalgo, Malinalco Baños of Nezahualcoyolt All Near Mexico City
Schade eigentlich. Trotzdem informativ.
About the black "JESUS " 🙏 ... The "Crucifix " was originally at "Porta Coalli " Church 14OO's ...a Priest...Prayed and Kissed the Feet of Crucifix...someone put Venimos at feet...The miracle was at the time the priest was going to kiss the feet...the Crucifix removed his feet and turn black.
Yes, we heard so many stories about the black Jesus. It is a very impressive statue so the stories behind must be impressive too. Thank you for adding the precisions.
There was a lot of.noise in the background.....so it was hard to listen to what you were saying. Hopefully you can fix that for your next vid. 😊😊 Luck!
Yes, thank you for your comment. Sometimes the camera is reacting super sensitive with the microphone. We hope that the future videos will be to your liking.
Chapultepec was build during the years of Maximiliano gobernmant, he is our most hated president, and blamed for the loose of North against USA (Texas, California etc...) he use to call he self Maximiliano, su alteza serenisima, pretending be a kind of king; for different reasons people get angry and he scape from the country, was executed in Veracruz when he back, because someone tell him who was forgive. Chapultepect was to be his main palace
ElPerpuli Sorry if I was rude, Chapultepec castle was built during the colonial era by one of the viceroys as a private property, but the viceroy died soon after. the castle then was then used as a residence by Maximilian, an emperor some Mexicans hate and some others admire. The president who is blamed for the loss of Texas is Santa Anna.
Mexico city is one of the 3 main cities in the country (Guadalajara and Monterrey are other two) and the biggest of all in Mexico, you could live for a year in this city and dont know even the half of this city
I just love Mexico City.I (Niko) lived there for about 4 months in a part of the city called Colonia Doctores.Love the architecture of the cathedral and all the beautiful murals around the city.

Oh I'm sure it's now tilting the other way. LOL. I have a friend that lives in Veracruz, located on the Gulf of Mexico, and he felt the earthquake all the way over there.
+Limbos Vi All is well, we felt it strongly too, very impressive indeed!

+Julio César Hernández And you are probably doing the right thing...
Julio César Hernández i am mexican, the best Mole

The pendulum marks the levels the cathedral back to normal due to the gigantic work to save it from sinking unevenly in the ground were was a lake! There's a complex hydrolic sistem to do that

Chapultepect was to be his main palace

ElPerpuli false, everything is wrong my friend, you're only confusing our friends
so... how it is?
ElPerpuli
Sorry if I was rude, Chapultepec castle was built during the colonial era by one of the viceroys as a private property, but the viceroy died soon after.
the castle then was then used as a residence by Maximilian, an emperor some Mexicans hate and some others admire.
The president who is blamed for the loss of Texas is Santa Anna.
Sorry I get confussed with names... it happen me sometimes
