If it doesn't, maybe consider other possibilities. As far as belief systems go, there's about as much hubris in atheism as there is in any other religion... The idea that we definitively know what and why the world is. Maybe science can answer that question for us someday. Meanwhile we keep discovering new things about the human body, never mind the rest of the vast universe/multiverse. But if any of those belief systems, atheism included, bring you peace, purpose and joy, who cares? I find trying to stay curious and cultivate a beginner's mind the best way for me, which makes me interested in and connect with the core of most religions and spiritual practices, as well as in science. But it's all like the group of five blind men trying to describe an elephant. They all describe separate parts of it, but none of them are able to comprehend the whole elephant. That's what it's like being human and trying to categorize and define the mysterious universe.

But I also refuse to believe God, a loving God, would speak to humanity through only one man and only one religion, and damn the rest until they convert to the 'one true way'. I don't know anything, but in my experience of God, I suspect a loving God would speak to his children through whatever he could. In India, maybe that was Gautama Buddha, and later Nisargardatta Maharaj, and Ramana Maharshi. In the Middle East, maybe it was Mohammed. Maybe it is through pain, through plant medicine, through meditation... through Thich Nhat Han and Dogen Zenji, through Alan Watts, through the voice of your conscience even if you have never heard the word Jesus uttered in your life, and maybe you never will, because perhaps you live in the wilds of Mongolia or the Amazon rainforest. Be wary of pontification in spiritual matters. It is hubris and self-righteous, verging on pharisaical. Take care. I know your heart is in the right place, but it also sounds like a heart closed to possibility. None of us know the full mind and breadth of God, and as valuable as the Bible is to me, its only claim to being 100% the final and unequivocal Word of God is that the bible itself says so. God speaks to us from wherever we are, whatever culture or mythology we exist in, whatever time and place. He spoke to us before Jesus lived. He continues to do so; the story isn't over, and that's why I don't understand why the Bible is a closed book. Jesus said we would do greater works than He.

Thank you dear Thay. I was fortunate to have a picnic with the monastics in the place where Plum Village Thailand would be built. It was wonderful. We looked down to the valley and up to where some bats flew out of a cave. We also ate some frivolous food that day (with the good food). ❤️🌺🙏

Wonderful moments of selfreflection when listening ànew to Our Master's words."Our Master'swords"came by error up on my screen. But that is so exact. Mindfullness as the Art of Mastering suffering helps us overcome these moments when we recognize that we're always giving up the picnic. Then, with a sens of Joy, happiness makes us fully aware of our mind suffering of guiltiness. The seeds of findfullness (another typemistake) mindfullness, will tendery embrace the pain, release myself from past and future and bring me back to my happy present breathing. I am my own Buddha, my own Mother. Beloved Master Thay so very much helps us on the muddy path with lots of slumpy pools. We are not to be afraid to go through them, avoiding to cross trouble and stains would keep sankaras in our backpack, leave us miserable. For me, coming back to these basic initiations every year helps grounding and to check essential foundations of my mindfulness practice are still strong and trustworthy. And...count how many picnics I let myself miss out on ;)))

As far as belief systems go, there's about as much hubris in atheism as there is in any other religion... The idea that we definitively know what and why the world is. Maybe science can answer that question for us someday. Meanwhile we keep discovering new things about the human body, never mind the rest of the vast universe/multiverse. But if any of those belief systems, atheism included, bring you peace, purpose and joy, who cares?
I find trying to stay curious and cultivate a beginner's mind the best way for me, which makes me interested in and connect with the core of most religions and spiritual practices, as well as in science. But it's all like the group of five blind men trying to describe an elephant. They all describe separate parts of it, but none of them are able to comprehend the whole elephant. That's what it's like being human and trying to categorize and define the mysterious universe.

But I also refuse to believe God, a loving God, would speak to humanity through only one man and only one religion, and damn the rest until they convert to the 'one true way'. I don't know anything, but in my experience of God, I suspect a loving God would speak to his children through whatever he could. In India, maybe that was Gautama Buddha, and later Nisargardatta Maharaj, and Ramana Maharshi. In the Middle East, maybe it was Mohammed. Maybe it is through pain, through plant medicine, through meditation... through Thich Nhat Han and Dogen Zenji, through Alan Watts, through the voice of your conscience even if you have never heard the word Jesus uttered in your life, and maybe you never will, because perhaps you live in the wilds of Mongolia or the Amazon rainforest.
Be wary of pontification in spiritual matters. It is hubris and self-righteous, verging on pharisaical. Take care. I know your heart is in the right place, but it also sounds like a heart closed to possibility. None of us know the full mind and breadth of God, and as valuable as the Bible is to me, its only claim to being 100% the final and unequivocal Word of God is that the bible itself says so.
God speaks to us from wherever we are, whatever culture or mythology we exist in, whatever time and place. He spoke to us before Jesus lived. He continues to do so; the story isn't over, and that's why I don't understand why the Bible is a closed book. Jesus said we would do greater works than He.

Wonderful moments of selfreflection when listening ànew to Our Master's words."Our Master'swords"came by error up on my screen. But that is so exact.
Mindfullness as the Art of Mastering suffering helps us overcome these moments when we recognize that we're always giving up the picnic. Then, with a sens of Joy, happiness makes us fully aware of our mind suffering of guiltiness. The seeds of findfullness (another typemistake) mindfullness, will tendery embrace the pain, release myself from past and future and bring me back to my happy present breathing. I am my own Buddha, my own Mother.
Beloved Master Thay so very much helps us on the muddy path with lots of slumpy pools. We are not to be afraid to go through them, avoiding to cross trouble and stains would keep sankaras in our backpack, leave us miserable.
For me, coming back to these basic initiations every year helps grounding and to check essential foundations of my mindfulness practice are still strong and trustworthy. And...count how many picnics I let myself miss out on ;)))

Merci, dear Thay. Today was a Day You were so needed. Turmoil. There you came, looking over my shoulder to infuse Peace and smiles into tasks that seemed impossible. Success and learning, conflict resolution and diplomacy were part of this Day that comes to an end. I listen to your picknick invitation and will share one with my friends tonight.
