Junior might have been the best player in history before Shohei reached our shores. He was a natural at everything he did. That smooth lefty swing, the balletic strides in the outfield, the 1000-watt smile. The Kid. An apt moniker. Peace

I got into baseball because of Shohei when he came over in 2018. All I remember is that I wanted to see if he would live up to the hype. There were a lot of doubters; I still remember the article that said he was a high school hitter. But here we are in 2023 and Ohtani has met and arguably exceeded those lofty expectations. I’m just in complete awe of this man.

The sad part of Shohei is that he's put together the greatest season in history (take your pick of 2021, 2022, 2023), greatest 2 year stretch in history, and greatest 3 season stretch in history, and yet he's an unknown outside the baseball world. Every person who doesn't follow baseball knows Babe Ruth, but they don't know Shohei. Casual fans who only follow their team barely acknowledge that they are witnessing a better version of Ruth right now. Hard core fans and stat geeks cannot be anything but blown away by it. It's the great tragedy of Shohei... every game he's on the mound should be sold out.

I get that folks wants to preserve history and hold on to legends they admired. Let's be honest though today's Era of hitters would be breaking all kinds of home run records back in the infancy of baseball. Let's be real folks back then it was pick up baseball games that they turned into the pro league. Today's players can't be scrubs off the street and expect to make it in the MLB.

Realistically speaking a no hitter and a cycle in the same game is a real possibility for him.
