Aaw honestly you couldn’t be more wrong about not needing a guided tour. It is so so interesting having a guide who is a former prison guard. He takes you through the whole process of what happens when someone first goes in, talks about the relationship between guards and prisoners, prison life, the process when they went to be hanged, and the ghostly stories of the prison. Definitely recommend it x

Very interesting! I've been to Alcatraz and saw famous peoples old Cells! Seen San Quentin from the Larkspur Ferry just yards away! You could see the Inmates in the Exercise yards, each one they wore different coloured overalls!
