    Let's get this straight... we've INCREASED the number of public workers by 40%, and services have gotten worse... and the location of work is an employer's right...
    Now they are threatening disruptions... not sure the public would notice any disruption given the recent performance and accessibility of services.
    Sounds like it's time to let them walk, and help with some cost savings.

      I absolutely care, because their supervisors are telling them for a better service. They need to be in the office. That service, it’s supposed to supply me with the service that I paid for.
      I’m sick and tired of having workers telling the bosses what’s going to happen and what’s not gonna happen.
      It’s pretty straightforward, go to work, or find a new job … and not one of these idiots just gonna find a job that pays nearly what they get paid for doing nothing at home…

    • @user-lb4vf3qg7v
      @user-lb4vf3qg7v 10 дней назад

      @@RMEMH1 it does affect everything, if their productivity IS lower then it impacts our taxes and services and what the public sector gets leads the demands in the private sector. I’ve had many experiences of work from home calls but private and public and this is what have experienced. Having to wait (not on hold but able to hear) while some went to fetch their escaping dog, tv in the background, another call while school lunches were being made by the person on the call speaking to her multiple children while servicing my call, being told that my call was being transferred to a private phone and may not be as secure did I want to continue (that was either CRA). The other issue is the length of time it takes for call backs during the time must we’re working from home so I can’t imagine that has improved. Then there’s the impact on society in general as work is a huge source of social that has become clearly challenged to the point where we are no longer able to even be courteous to each other. I have been on group meetings and when there is more than one person not on site the meetings become less communicative. This is a fact. That means even meetings are less productive, possibly even losing context.

    The company I work for went to 5 days work week in office last year. Why the public service workers be different?

  • @phaldaz
    @phaldaz 10 дней назад +17

    Let them work from home, this is not an issue of productivity, this is control. Less parking used, more reasonable public bus/train capacity, and a better work/life balance. Who cares where they work if the productivity is the same

      Exactly! It about time unions actually fight for their workers.Workers should't just bow down because everyone else is.

      The fact is that 70 percent of federal public service workers went on a two year vacation in 2020 and nobody noticed they were gone. When 70 percent of all federal budgets and/or staffing are eliminated, we can start talking about work from home.

    • @kyletrusler4565

      @@sqae8398Working from home isn't a vacation, it's very much doing the required job requirements. If your argument was true, they would have already gone with that, but it's not.
      This is yet again an example of the government slowly taking workers rights away from them. Think about this next time you want a change in pay or benefits from your employer and you have a separate party saying you don't deserve it. We should stick together, even if we dont directly see the benefits.

      @kyletrusler4565 All useful work provided by the federal government of Canada can be done with 30 percent of their current budgets. I am pro work at home. Once again, 70 percent of federal public servants went on a 2 year vacation in 2020 and nobody noticed they were gone. Just because it wasn't a "literal" vacation doesn't make the sentiment any less true.

    • @kyletrusler4565
      @kyletrusler4565 10 дней назад

      @@sqae8398 One cant be pro working from home, then classify working from home as a "vacation". Saying that "nobody noticed they were gone" and that they were on "vacation" because they were working from home is ignoring that many federal programs wouldnt have continued without these workers. Just because you dont notice a job happening, doesnt mean it wasnt done.

    I worked at home during the pandemic. It was FAR more productive and the employer got more hours from me as I wasn’t wasting 90 minutes a day commuting. Office space is expensive and a lot less of that is needed with a a hybrid workforce. Granted for some jobs you have to be at the office but for many functions, sitting at a computer at a desk can be done anywhere.

    • @mikegatherall3774

      Your commute is not part of the employment by your employer unless stipulated in the contract ….

      @jonstone2466 Your commute is NOT part of your paid workday hours. Now tell me you didn't claim anything for office expenses, have company paid for laptop/computer, chair, desk, printer, etc. Lots of multiple expenses adding up. If you job is sitting at a computer as a public service then maybe your service isn't needed.

    Trudeaus government expansion needs a Ronald Reagan moment. Canadians have had enough of the cost of this governments mess. At least 50% should be let go. The huge increase of the Federal government has not made any difference to the service Canadians receive.

    heres the problem with working from home, hypothetically on that government wage, the person working from home could hire a temp for half the pay and be out working another job, they should have to go to the office or we put a large stay at home tax on them

    Normally I don't like lobbyists or agree. But I have to agree with the french guy. If the productivity is there what's the point. Vassy says you can jump on transit. What stratosphere is she from. Many government workers have to travel at least an hour each way from all the small towns surrounding Ottawa. It's the housing costs and the crime that you have to endure if your family is located in an affordable time zone.or in Ottawa

    Of course they were more productive during the pandemic because no one could go anywhere. You always have bad apples in a basket who make it worse for others who work from home.Trudeau wants them back 3 days a week because the Mayor of Ottawa and premiere Ford is crying that business are closing shops up because of no clientel meaning the federal employees are not eating at there stores.
