    Some parents seem to forget that children have, to some extent, autonomy over themselves. Watching the child actor plead to his mom is heartbreaking. Even as he felt harmed and was asking her to stop, she didn't. Not getting compassion and mercy from the person who's supposed to shield you from any and all danger is soul crushing. If that's not the utmost level of breach of trust, I don't know what is.

    In this season, the only family that I truly felt that changed was the Korean family. Only his father seems to understand the importance of family, his children needs and how to make sure that the family stays together. Meanwhile, all I see from the other family is unjustifiable egos.

    basti might seem selfish outside, I used to hate this child, but when he cried, I melted, I could feel the burden he felt from his mother's expectations as well as the hope of helping his family's finances. parents should not see their children as commodities, but with their circumstances, they may only have limited choices.

    She forced the peppermint oil on him when he clearly expressed his dislike for it and then she got mad at him for being rude to her? Threw a tantrum by dissappearing and causing inconveniences to the rest of the crew? Then kept forcing her son to apologise to her? She was forcing him to apologise for making her look bad coz of the way he reacted and not really because he was being rude. Man.. she is overbearing and egoistic.

    • @slaiyfershin

      If she were to place the oil well wouldn't it be good? Well the reaction of the mom and the kid is unacceptable then if you say it. Cus right, the kid can use the peppermint oil to cry for the scene then complain to the mom later

      The mom is in the wrong but the attitude of the kid was not equivocal. So the kids reaction on professionalism is more important in this case which he failed it. Not due to the mom but his own tolerance and diligence.

    CNA, thanks for producing such an engrossing and relatable show. I’ve enjoyed all 4 seasons and look forward to more in the future. I also appreciate that you’ve given updates at the end of the series which was missing from previous series. I do feel this series the parents all seem to project their own wishes onto the kids and set unrealistic and unhealthy expectations. I know all parents think their own kids are perfect, but there is some serious delusions here. The Indian family also proves that money doesn’t buy happiness, nor good behavior as they all seem to support each other in their own sacrifice and selflessness. The SG family is the worst - Keane is very spoilt and his parents treating him like a baby is a disservice to him in the long run.

      Hi, I know that it is your opinion but Keane is not treated like a baby in a sense that would become a disservice to him in the long run. He takes responsibility in doing his homework himself and practising. Of course there are some slacking points but we kinda have to admit that everyone would at least slack once in a while:)

My parents sent me and my 2 siblings to many courses and tuition. My best was never enough for them. I realised when I grew older that those courses they sent me for really helped me in boosting my social ability and portfolio in entering good schools and finally medicine. The Yaps have only themselves to blame for Keane’s gaming addiction. They were the ones who bought the game console and allowed him to play iPad games. They should be encouraging Keane to engage in outdoor activities rather than making him a couch potato.

    • @dawnyap
      @dawnyap 4 года назад +14

      Keane does have outdoor activities and Keane had bought his console with his hard earned money that he had earned from all his acting jobs. I wish the Indian family well. Such intelligence should be put to good use. With Gaurav’s determination and incredible mindset despite their poverty, he will surely someday be able to lift his family’s financial stability. I really do hope for that.
    The Sporean parents I think are doing a great job. The parents are a perfect balance for the kids. The mom is the green light that tells her kids to go, the father is the pit stop.
    The Philippine fam, i did a search on the kid and it’s good to know that he made it as a child actor.
    The Chinese fam, i love how the father perceived how the future will be and has taken action - which is directing his son’s interest in things that will matter in this generation. He doesn’t care about grades that much - bec his son, a kid is already excelling in robotics, coding and everything that involves tech which is great. A lot of people now have made it big bec they have the skills.
    In all these shows, I admire how every parent strive to work for a better life or create a better path for their children. It’s hard to judge their parenting styles but unless we are in their shoes, we will never understand.

    Totally agree with the Korean dad regarding his Value of a "Degree" , I am a master Degree holder yet me myself don't really value it if it don't brings in the Money. It is true money can't buy happiness, but in the reality that we live in right now, if you are broke, definitely your world will become a walking hell, I've learnt that the hard way, I've work for a company and got paid with the amount that i can only barely get by every month, but i like what I am doing, Soon.... that "barely get by life" creeps up to me and what I use to enjoy became what I truly hate the most. In the end I quite, and started my own venture that I don't really like, years had pass and I am making 10 time more that I used to be back then. Sometimes you need to get slapped really really hard by this harsh reality to realize that most of us cant align our dream with reality. If my dad owns a booming business like him, I would continue it with my own improvement.

    Yap family Mother: "Find another mum". That is the best advice she had given her son. She is the most overbearing and intrusive persona as a mother. Poor child. How disrespectful to the makeup artist, fighting and torturing your own child when she is trying to do her work. Don't force your own delusional dreams on your children. They did not choose you as their mentor, and they deserve a chance to be happy.
    I was born in Singapore, I did not finish secondary school because my parents were too poor and needed me to find work.
