Yes I have. They’re pilot whales(long fin/short fin pilot whales) but are called false killer whales as a common name. They’re apart of the dolphin species just like orca. Orca are actually terrified of pilot whales since they hunt in HUGE packs, sometimes a couple hundred together. They also have the ability to mimic the sounds of orcas which is a great strategy to hunt the sea wolves(orca). Sadly because they’re so close to one another, many pilot whales will follow the most dominate whale and the whole pod will beach themselves and even if rescuers reach them in time and turn them around into the ocean, many times will swim back onto shore and beach themselves again. The ONLY way to prevent this herd mentality is to split the whales up and drop them off somewhere far away from the pod and HOPE they both don’t *A)* swim back to the beached pod or *B)* have the knowledge and wisdom of a smaller and likely more inexperienced pod to find food and safety in the ocean. I wouldn’t be surprised if sonar from deep sea fishing vessels/military or oil drilling vessels are causing them to beach to escape the horrible noise. Those sonars used at the front of the vessel creates a HUGE sound blast and are so powerful that the water in front of the sonar will actually boil. Its like an underwater tsunami effect amplifying the sound as it ripples through down to the ocean seabed. Its so Very sad. Killer Whales, Orcas, actually flee when their sonars detect Pilot Whales. Probably one of the few animals on this planet that they don't mess with, since their pod sizes sometimes can exceed 100 members. They even stop communicating with each other so the pilot whales don't detect them, and swim in the opposite direction.
Fun fact for those who don't know: Both Orcas (Killer Whales), and False Killer whales are not whales at all, both are actually giant dolphins. In other words, Killer whales are the largest, smartest dolphins in the ocean. EDIT: let me clear something up. TECHNICALLY, they are all WHALES, falling under either toothed or baleen, however, when you see a dolphin, you don't say "hey look at that dolphin that's technically a whale" do you? Of course not. Just like when you go to the mall, you don't say "wow, it's ALOT of apes here today" of course not, people technically fall under apes just as dolphins fall under whales, but in every day life, we do not call dolphins whales. So to all of you technical people who have to ruin the moment with your "matter of fact" personality, YES YOU ARE CORRECT, TECHNICALLY THEY ARE ALL CLASSIFIED AS WHALES.
@@maxpuhl832Dolphins aren't whales. Both dolphins and whales are part of the same infra-order : cetacea. Dolphins and killer whales are part of the same family : delphinidae. Whales are part of the balaenopteridae family.
Still is, the FKW probably thought how nice of these humans to offer us food on a string. So easy and convenient, and you can't blame an animal if YOUR presence makes life easier for them.
Killer whales are a type of dolphin. This is also a type of dolphin. Pretty much any sea mammal blowhole carnivore that has teeth and isnt a sperm whale, is a dolphin.
And to be clear, dolphin is a general classification, not a taxonomic one. All dolphins fit within several families that are all apart of the same superfamily(Delphinoidea, the largest group of toothed whales). But not all families within that superfamily are dolphins. The families that dolphins are in, only have dolphins There are are whale/dolphin hybrids. This is possible because dolphins are whales. Orca are the last remaining species of the last remaining genus, of there subfamily. Just like humans, except the physiological/evolutionary gap between us and our closest living relatives is far greater than it is for Orca.
Upon rechecking my information, classification is a bit different, its a little more organized(idk when they reorganized it, but the reorganization seems to still be contested). All of the extant families of dolphin are now subfamilies within the family "Delphinidea". There is still a family(which several subfamilies) of closely related whales(they are the closer to dolphin than anything else and potentially share a single common ancestor to Delphinidea). This family is completely extinct, but if it was still around, the species within it would most likely have been referred to as dolphin. The family is "Kentriodontidae". So modern dolphins do actually fit within one classification(albeit a contested one).

Fun fact for those who don't know:
Both Orcas (Killer Whales), and False Killer whales are not whales at all, both are actually giant dolphins.
Yah and dolphins are whales so…

His guest looked at him like “cool story bro”
Killer whales are a type of dolphin. This is also a type of dolphin. Pretty much any sea mammal blowhole carnivore that has teeth and isnt a sperm whale, is a dolphin.
And to be clear, dolphin is a general classification, not a taxonomic one.
All dolphins fit within several families that are all apart of the same superfamily(Delphinoidea, the largest group of toothed whales). But not all families within that superfamily are dolphins. The families that dolphins are in, only have dolphins
There are are whale/dolphin hybrids.
Nvm, I just remembered river dolphins. They are a whole other can of worms, when it comes to taxonomy.
Taxonomy is a headache, I give up.
its like 7 ways to be classified
Correct, and they are all whales.
