Phenominall video A1! this was both nostalgic and a shock trip for me! I NEVER even knew we had race beta mission! I remember the skill tree very well because I introduced my friend to STW and he looked at the skill tree whilst we were in a call and he was like "WTF IS THIS???" ahahah! Edit: Transforms should have never been removed, a great way to use up duplicates etc :c
I think I can count on one hand the number of people that knew how to use transform keys... But for those that did, they were an amazing way of gaining resources for upgrades! Would love to see it returned
Who remembers before the locker change the only emotes you could do were “dance” (default dance) and ride the pony? And your pickaxe was always set to whatever current upgrade you have
Here are some of the things that were changed: 1. Remember when abilities costed energy and sprinting used the same energy? So you could either sprint or use abilities, but not both. 2. Also when you were knocked down (DBNO) you could not crawn around initially, so your team mates always had to go to you. 3. Ceiling electric field only activated from 1 tile up. Tire traps were also changed, when they introduced Havok physics. They were quite useless before. Gas traps applied a DOT (damage over time) which you could stack using multiple traps. Now they only get damaged while they are under the trap, but supposedly it also takes care of bees. 4. Propane husks did not self detonate when they reached 1/3 health. This was changed around the time sound walls were introduced, which forces them to drop their propane. Propane didn't disappear after the husks died, so we had to clean up the trap tunnels on longer missions, like SSDs. 5. Some traps used to detonate propane. They did a lot of back and forth before removing this. 6. We were not able to change the perks on traps and weapons initially. This was changed during the first Blockbuster event. 7. We could not craft weapons and traps on lower tiers, so we had to have multiple of the same weapons and traps levelled up. 8. We could not bulk craft traps. 9. We didn't get full materials back when recycling traps. 10. We weren't able to destroy building in a single hit in our SSD and get our materials refunded. 11. Building status was not saved at the beginning of SSDs so if husks destroyed something, it stayed destroyed. Traps durability also did not recharge, so we had a lot of half used traps in our SSDs. 12. We were able to use floor launchers to launch husks into the air and forcing them to take fall damage. This was changed after this was exploited heavily in Frostnite. Now Smashers only get staggered by launchers. 13a. The ultimate edition had an unlimited epic (purple) survivor transform that was twice as efficient as rare (blue) survivors regarding the amount of training manuals earned. It also used people cards which you could earn by rescuing survivors. 13b. The amount of manuals we got were increased to compensate for the removal of transforms. Commons (grey) didn't use to give any training manuals before. You had to transform them to uncommons (green) to get any manuals from them. 14. Super Deluxe used to have 1 friend code, Limited Edition had 2 and Ultimate Edition had 4 friend codes. They replaced them with Troll stash llamas if you bough the pack after the change. If you bought it before the change, you could still keep the codes. I think if you have the codes, but didn't retrieve them the game will not let you get them anymore. Or at least that's what I've heard from people on Reddit. But if you have the code retrieved, you can still activate them. 15. Packs were automatically upgraded to one pack higher (Standard > Deluxe > Super Deluxe > Limited > Ultimate). Ultimate owners got 8000 vbucks and the Metal Team Leader pack. 16. You could earn exclusive one among many banners from a Twitch promotion. Sadly this promotion is no longer active. These are some of the changes I can remember from the top of my head.
"9. We didn't get full materials back when recycling traps. 10. We weren't able to destroy building in a single hit in our SSD and get our materials refunded. 11. I REMEMBER THIS. * REPRESSED RAGE INTENSIFIES *
17. Anti Material Charge had a redesign, whereas instead of being used via holding your pickaxe, it had to be used as an actual ability 18. (Don't quote me on the date) around Summer 2018, Ragnarok and Storm Enforcer released; they introduced both Seismic Smash and Kunai Storm as the newest abilities to the game 19. Flingers used to be resistant to ranged weapons and were only killed concisely with melees. However, now they can be killed by just about anything
When you were playing the "Lost in Transit" mission, did just that specific mission give you infinite rockets? Or is that like a special load out? I vaguely remember playing all of these when I got my Founders Edition back in 2017, but I think I just logged on STW everyday just to collect my daily rewards since it had vbucks up to 1200.
I remember most of these, the blaster upgrade was definitely for the better, they actually look like mist monsters now, I don't really miss these much, while I do get some nostalgia for old stw, I very much prefer the way it is today, cannot fathom playing without the QOL stuff we have now.
They also got decently nerfed when they got redesigned, and honestly thank god. These things unnerfed were only one of the reasons why my experience with SSDs were painful (others included: being awful at the game, builds not saving and being forced to repair everything if you failed, and having to do them all solo because no one searched play well with others missions)
@@sonicrunn3r895 True, old blasters used to hit you with every beam they barfed, now they miss when they start, progressively getting more accurate. They're also slower and more vulnerable to hit n runs. I do miss the massive head hitbox though, just a little bit.
The biggest thing I miss is regular meaningful updates. Wildlife, mantling, crouching, and Ventures serve no purpose whatsoever. I do miss patrol wards and transform keys though.
How can you say mantling serves no purpose? Do you even play? Your argument is flawed if you say mantling is useless. Also ventures is VERY useful for getting superchargers and core reperks. Not sure how you play without recognizing this.
Looks like most of us agree that mantling, crouching, sprinting and Ventures were all good quality-of-life additions to the game. I could do without the wildlife, though. If you ever reach PL130, Ventures becomes something that you may appreciate at that time.
One gameplay mechanic that was thankfully changed was the way dmg used to work for flingers. Ranged dmg was significantly reduced. Im not sure if melee weapons had a dmg multiplier but it was one of the best way to take care of them. Outlanders were able to hold down an anti material charge (which use to be an ability). The pickaxe also had a heavy attack which wasnt all too great.
Just mentioned the flinger thing in a different comment - I remember having to get close up to them to kill them quickly with a melee. Itleast now, they can be killed by anything
What a nostalgia trip. Some of these things I barely had any recollection of or had completely forgotten about. Thanks for refreshing my memory. Idk if this is mentioned in the video but I miss the old retrieve the data where the storm wouldn't close in. I think it got replaced in like 2019. Surprised they kept it that way since.
Wow, I had forgotten most of that. I liked most of those old game modes, I wish they’d bring back the race and the one with the trucks. The mode where each player builds a base and you defend them in turns was hell with randos. A lot of people wouldn’t build anything and then you’d all fail.
Touching on some of this: - Challenge the Horde also had a version that that was just grassy. That was the one I remember the most. It may have been dependent on progression, but don't quote me on that. - There were two different Survive the Storm events. The winter one (Survive the Holidays) did have snow in much the same way that current Frostnite maps do. You've actually got a video with gameplay of that up on your channel.
A real walk down memory lane here! Thanks A1, I forgot a lot of these existed. What a time this game has given us! Watching a friend play and being an RPG nerd when I saw that skill tree I was in 😂
Another thing about the founders edition was if you bought the deluxe edition you would get 1 code to send to a friend to get StW & the ultimate edition would give you 2 codes. If you were a founder you would get a lot of messages from random people asking for the code.
@@monkey_ish4117this is not true. If you’re on PC you can copy the code and paste it outside the game to find it. If you’re on anything else, you have to use an api to find your codes.
STW is so underrated, i wish that epic recognized this game more, since it was their original idea and it still has potential. But shit didnt get promoted enough.
Survive the storm sounds really fun! It would be cool to have a day night cycle mission where you're not building to defend an object but instead you're building a fort to keep yourself safe! I feel like constantly having to refill the frost night burner with blue glow definitely took a lot of away from the mode.
The original Repair the Shelter bots weren't bots. They were transparent floating diamonds full of crafting materials including nuts and bolts. Because nuts and bolts were difficult to get people would do the start of this mission just to collect the materials then leave it to start again. I miss those diamonds!
Other things we probably will never see again are the original Valentine's Day and Holiday Story Events. (The one where we met Crackshot for the first time, and where Jonesy and Sarah fell in love due to the Anti-Love Potion)
i remember back before they upgraded everyone to their next pack when they got rid of founders i almost, ALMOST bought ultimate edition as i had no idea about the upgrades. saved myself $100 thank god
I miss the old menu music for STW. It was a more eerie and slower version of the games' main theme. I think it fit the ambience way better than the current. Also if I remember correctly, soldiers could throw grenades much further. Idk why they nerfed it
I love these kinds of videos. Save the World was such a different game back in the day. Crazy to me that Epic is sitting on all this old content that they could reuse.
great trip down memory lane had forgotten a few of these as well. Would be good to have Survive the storm and challenge the horde og back perhaps in a seperate biom like dungeons and add frostnite seasonaly.
I remember being able to glitch the end screen to where I had my character (often Shuriken Master Sarah) be able to move in it and do abilities. That was so much fun. Hearing her say, "way to go" while throwing down a smoke bomb, followed by a dragon slash was great fun for me and others. Epic eventually removed this, which I thought was sad, because it was a glitch that harmed no one, but made the end screen worth waiting for.
Awesome video! I didn't play for most of this, but was interesting to watch. I do wish they'd bring some sort of legacy not founder pack, if nothing else with schematic slots, backpack slots, hero loadout, or even an extra expedition vehicle or other hard limit areas. Thanks!
I knew the Patrol Ward was missing since I came back I was always thinking something is missing but didnt know what that Trap was so rarely used since not a lot of people knew how to use it and why so I think thats the reason they replaced it. Also remember when no one wanted to make a trap base for SSDs since they would get Destroyed and waste the traps if you failed at the SSD..(now they replenish..) Such a good video!
omg I remember the og blasters!! Also does anyone remember when everyone had a heavy attack with their pickaxe? And the anti material charge instead was a cooldown for outlanders
I remember most of that.. except the last two parts (the challenge the horde and other thing).. but I was JUST thinking about the Race Track type mission a couple days ago. A friend of mine and I used to love that one. We'd raze a level to the ground then build special jumps and catch walls. And if you Anti Material'd into the launch pads it would send you SUPER flying
I can understand why the patrol ward was removed. Game balancing and stuff. It’s just pretty op if you can prevent husk spawning, since if you’re rich in resources from a ton of grinding, you can just fill the entire map with it. Edit: wait the anti air trap is the replacement. Does it prevent spawns or shoot air threats? I thought it shot flying enemies.
As an early founder i never heard of the patrol ward. I just rewatched it, but don’t recall ever seen or had this trap. Glitch in the matrix for me i guess 😜👍
Omg I was basically a baby when I started this mode (C1S5). Still mad I didn’t finish that battle pass. But on I different note I do remember most of these but the main thing I miss is the old blaster he was so cool
@@seadragonpirate8195it glitches constantly now too.. you build the tracks, and the game just never recognizes the connection. It happened to me in 3 different games in a row today
I thought survive the storm was really cool and actually made you and your team build super massive forts in order to survive all 14 days. It also made you have to basically scavenge majority of the map for enough resources to last all 14 days. Also the fact that they actually put the meaning of the games title into use as a game mode. (An actual fortnight is a period of 14 days/2 weeks). Also wanna give an honorable mention to the first fortnightmares event, where you could earn Grave Digger as a reward for beating the event. The maps would also spawn hidden crypts and catacombs under some of the buildings and also had unique POIs.
Old clips make me nostalgic, I missed when they cared for this game! Hopefully the new creative director will fix stw? Unless he only does battle royale.
I’m so mad that they removed the daily log in rewards. They should’ve at least given a certain amount of days that you get them, but removing them and the founders login was basically a scam
Damn…the things I’ve missed. I’ve started to playing ‘Save The World’ around late late September 2018 / beginning October 2018 (i.e, late Chapter 1 Season 5 / beginning Chapter 1 Season 6), I believe that was the time around which the ‘Skill Tree’ was removed. But looking back at all of this, it really shows how much ‘Save The World’ changed.
I miss Lost In Transit. Also I notice the damage you would take would have a negative symbol next to it, now it no longers does, could that be another accidental change?
I wish they'd add the founders weapons to the regular game, instead of locking it behind the paywall AND the limited time to purchase it, especially since they are some of the best weapons in the game (cough cough, nocturno)
The Survive the Storm mode seems like it was the original idea behind Save the World, because that's what we see in that first ever teaser for the game back in 2011.
11:05 Challenge the Horde, my beloved. I played it in c1s5 and wasn't very high up in STW yet so I was only able to unlock less than half of the things in CTH. I've been waiting years for that to come back out. I had a lot of hope for it earlier this year, but then that turned out to be Survive the Horde, which was fun... but completely unrelated to CTH. I have a small amount of hopium that maybe it'll show up again next season with BR's time travel stunts, but I won't be surprised if it doesn't.
I remember playing the fortnight survive the storm mission the first week I got the game, and while it may have been 4 real hours, I had almost more fun than I ever had playing a game (at least for that long), and it got me hooked on Save The World. I never took off the banner I got for completing it, and I rocked the hydra until twine peaks basically lol.
Great Video A1, very nostalgic! But how come no one brought up the old levels for weapons like 3 star weapons could go to 82 and 2 star could be leveled up to 58
Epic, if you are reading this. I would say if you could bring the old mission and revamp them, plus that global thing but instead we can talk to our friends and people we meant in past missions (time gap 30 days), and add that defender slot should come back from being able to pick only 3 defenders that only want to use (If we solo) or 1 If its a 4 player mission. It would make the game a bit more enjoyable to play after all these years.
@@emma6648 Maybe they could do it over time but I'm just mad they could'nt have just done made it free to play with stuff you could buy to help you threw the game.
I FORGOT ABOUT CHALLENGE THE HORDE, last one i remember playing was in season 5 chapter 1 when it was desert themed, they really gotta start adding stuff like that back

Edit: wait the anti air trap is the replacement. Does it prevent spawns or shoot air threats? I thought it shot flying enemies.
Memories 😭 as for global chat, I certainly don't miss that, fullmof toxic kids trying to scam anyone and everyone.
I miss resupplies in ventures. Why the hell have they made them so rare in a mode where you need to farm so much!
who hated deliver the bomb vbuck missions 😂
Haven't played it in years
@@Coregame3 read what i said dummy
Deliver the bomb might as well not exist anymore, it never gets any alerts
@@seadragonpirate8195it glitches constantly now too.. you build the tracks, and the game just never recognizes the connection. It happened to me in 3 different games in a row today
I hate it
I thought survive the storm was really cool and actually made you and your team build super massive forts in order to survive all 14 days.
The daily log in for rewards and free vbucks was depressing, they gave up on stw and its just sad
Unfortunate that the only thing they’ve bothered to do recently is remove daily rewards but at least daily challenges give 80 vbucks instead of 50 now
I miss the Beta Storms so much lmao, We finally got new missions for once instead of the boring one's we've had for years.
Old clips make me nostalgic, I missed when they cared for this game! Hopefully the new creative director will fix stw? Unless he only does battle royale.
Yes, Transform keys, i asked myself the question last time where the transform keys have been used for and where we could get them, nice vid!
I still have a legacy recipe which were removed! Happy I at least kept one.
A1, Digi and Mattio are the only quality STW content creators we have left. Hang in there with is, bro.
And beast, he reports all the mission alerts every day and features some cool weapons from time to time
save the world was a lot more fun than it's today :(
Miss global chats so much. It was nice to know people were still actively around. Save the world didn’t feel as small and lonely as it was until now.
Don’t forget the chat. It was always “type ABC to trade” 😅
The patrol ward never worked.
I completely forgot they removed it, that's how useless it was 😂
I miss Lost In Transit.
Also I notice the damage you would take would have a negative symbol next to it, now it no longers does, could that be another accidental change?
I love that people still make STW videos makes me reminisce about the OG stw days 😂
I wish they'd add the founders weapons to the regular game, instead of locking it behind the paywall AND the limited time to purchase it, especially since they are some of the best weapons in the game (cough cough, nocturno)
Does someone remember before the mythic storm king epic add a lot of storm kings to be done in different power levels?
I miss when smashers took fall damage
How is the skybox so detailed but not explorable like what biggest mistake easily 😭
So much potential for an even better game but they waste it on br that is nothing but cars. What a waste of
BR is trash anyway
as someone who played during all of these removed features. gotta say i loved every moment. wish it was still being developed.
The skills tree was a giant pain and it took years to max out!
I miss the original challenge the hoard so much, It was just fun imo with peoples pre-built bases
Bring global chat back. Kept things interesting
I remember when your character got tired whilst running (not the sprinting)
The Survive the Storm mode seems like it was the original idea behind Save the World, because that's what we see in that first ever teaser for the game back in 2011.
I miss the ultimate version back then I didn't have $100 bucks I am glad I got founders but wish there was a code I would buy it so quick
I cant agree with the daily login being taken away. It completely makes no sense as to why
Sooooo much nostalgia...
Thanks for the beautiful memories you just gave me :)
I miss the old stw so much, it’s not as much fun anymore
Oh wow, I had forgotten most of these. Some I miss, some I don't!
They could add the purple husks and call them rift husks because stw rifts are purple yk? Idk just an idea
I loved that mode. Just spammed noble launchers and dam busters😂😂 and trap tunnels. Such a great game mode
I completely forgot about the patrol trap. I almost thought i didn't recognize it but after the explanation i remember never using them at all.
That (original) challenge the horde mode was a blast. It was a good way to meet and help people.
Great Video A1, very nostalgic! But how come no one brought up the old levels for weapons like 3 star weapons could go to 82 and 2 star could be leveled up to 58
Also honey
thank you a lot for bringing me this nostalgia, reminds me why i loved playing this game almost all day
You forgot the second melee attack that got removed and they changed it to the Outlander punch
Yes I also remember that but am not quite sure
purple husks sound pretty menacing, also the racing mode looks so fun, it could return with a few tweaks to make it better
A1 if you wear the shadow meowscles backbling it lights up the command area for a short time
Honestly i wanna all OG to return . The graphics than looks better than now . ! Miss O.G fornite and stw !
only good choics were making a retrieve the data a 1x1 and more hero slots
Im crying yo guys we’re getting old 😭😭 I miss old stw
Epic, if you are reading this. I would say if you could bring the old mission and revamp them, plus that global thing but instead we can talk to our friends and people we meant in past missions (time gap 30 days), and add that defender slot should come back from being able to pick only 3 defenders that only want to use (If we solo) or 1 If its a 4 player mission. It would make the game a bit more enjoyable to play after all these years.
Would that make the money? No, so they wont do it plus most of the STW was laid off
@@emma6648 I know, it was just a joke...😥
@@emma6648 Maybe they could do it over time but I'm just mad they could'nt have just done made it free to play with stuff you could buy to help you threw the game.
A1 keeping me playing the game
Played STW off and on since 2018 and wow they gutted a LOT from the game. Quite sad tbh.
I started playing save the world in 2018 and it’s really sad that it makes 2 years since epic games stopped making updates in save the world
I FORGOT ABOUT CHALLENGE THE HORDE, last one i remember playing was in season 5 chapter 1 when it was desert themed, they really gotta start adding stuff like that back
sprinting, crouching, and man timing was probably the best thing that has happened to stw in a little while
dude the challenge the horde stuff was so fun cause people would try diff best design so unique
