It was and still is such a great game. I used to play it a lot during my middle school years with the laptop provided by my school. The solo campaign was awesome even if i got quite angry with the stealth sections in the fist alpha expansion.
Dude, this game is severely under-rated game and what I believe to be WAY ahead of its time! Such an immersive experience. I hope they remake this proper GEM! What a game. There is a lot modern day game developers could learn from this game.
This channel is absolutely amazing, please continue to review old games. Also it is appreciated that you advise how to run them properly on modern machines
Pretty much agree with the review. Personally I loved the base parts, reading the after action reports, the Intel, the military news while listening to the radio was so immersive. It also helps in gameplay like the document that shows you visual markers the VC put to mark traps. That's something I wish was present in other war games, adding a small bit of that RPG element.
03:12 That is the most useful table of commands in FPS history. Command: Hold Follow Me Disperse Switch To Stealth Because there are no personal radios, the way to ensure everyone follows the command is call them close with their individual keypad number commands (1-5), wait until they're all together, and then give the command.
Vietcong is not a perfect game, it has some issues... But my God does it do certain things that pretty much no other game does. First of all, there is a ton of real information that you can learn from the game, when you are at the Base, Hawkins has files of information about weapons, about the Vietcong, about tactics, I love that they did actual research on the Vietnam war. One example, the M16 uses 20 round magazines, yet using it, you actually only have 18 rounds, why? Well the game will tell you, correctly, that the magazines were notoriously bad, the springs could not handle being fully loaded. Hawkins' collecting documents in missions is a pretty little thing, but I'm very happy, he is an Intelligence Sergeant. I love what may seem like another small thing, but... You are constantly radioing things back to command at fitting times. I can't remember off the top of my head if you HAVE to do this or you can ignore it, but I love it, you are dropped off, you inform command, you make contact with the enemy, you inform command, you find a weapons cache, you inform command, which is what you should do, but most games completely ignore this. Lastly, (without completely spoiling if someone has yet to try This game) I love that there is a mission where you are going to do recon because of a threat spotted by aircraft, only for it to turn out like 5 minutes in that it was completely incorrect Intel, and your objective changes immediately. This game is slow paced most of the time, and that is where it is best, and when it feels the most authentic.
I LOVED this game back in the day. It was from the era when I built my first gaming PC too so it has added nostalgia for that reason. I remember it being the first game I ever played with ADS, even predating the original Call of Duty by a year or two. Good stuff.
YYYEEEESSSS! Loved this game back in the day. I'm sure it hasn't aged too gracefully, but back in the day this was a breath of fresh air. Now do a review of the horrendous sequel!
I remember this game when relised i was stuck on P II-333 mhz and TnT2 pro i could launch game but only thing that i could do is to stay in corner or point up and admire details on weapons. Way later i played the game on Athlon XP and maybe its time to reply it again
Thanks for the recommendation. I've seen some trailer footage of this back in the day, but never played it myself. The only Vietnam themed game I really played was Conflict: Vietnam.
This is like my all time most favorite game. It's a game from 2003 and it's amazing how good it looks, sounds and how atmospheric it feels. You have your room in the trenches and can visit shooting range between missions. In your room there is a radio playing news and blasting old rock music. Your character has a diary to read. File cabinets about lore and info about weapons. There is some jank like AI pathing or something but overall it's amazing. I still remember sounds and music of main menu. It is pretty obvious that big research about the war, sounds and weapons were done to create this game. Even as a kid who knew nothing about it I could feel that devs tried to create something immersive based on history. I tried to play it 3-4 years ago I think. I added vc started and etc. Sadly it started to crash at certain point after couple missions. There isn't as many Vietnam games compared to WW2. I wish something modern with same spirit would be released but it doesn't look like it will happen any time soon. I will try to replay again maybe it won't crash this time. Digital stores like GOG pick up certain old games and update them to work on new hardware. I wish they would do the same with this game but I think the company is long gone.
Wish we'd get a new single player focused Vietnam War game. Most are multiplayer focused or an absolute joke like Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War's Vietnam level.
Sure, using the pointman makes the traversing the jungle slow but isn't that just making it more atmospheric when you know the enemy could be anywhere waiting for you and you need to tread carefully?
Does anyone remember playing this on the hardest difficulty? Because I swear that it was pretty much impossible. I remember crawling through bushes, not being able to see ANYTHING then getting sniped by guys from like 100+ metres away using pistols
I downloaded this game and for some reason it has this goofy glitch where I can’t switch to my other weapons, and can only draw my knife or a map. I have literally run missions where I am stabbing my way through.
God, I loved that game!!!! And did love this map: 9:37 Played this online like crazy! Thanks for the review. Gave me a good flashback...🤩👍 ps: I loved the m1 carbine 12:13 The 'sound feel' was just great
I loved this game, I remember getting it on release. I seem to remember that it had mutliplayer coop? can anyone confirm this? I remember salking slowly through the jungle with friends calling in artillery
9:55 what???? Soldier Of Fortune 2 (2002) Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault (2002) No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.’s Way (2002) 007 Nightfire (2002) Serious Sam: The Second Encounter (2002) Call Of Duty (2003) Tron 2.0 (2003) XIII (2003)
I sort of disagree, sort of agree. There are great, slow, tactical shooters that have came out in the near past, Ready or Not is a very good game in the vein of the SWAT series. Ground Branch is a great game where you play as a CIA SAC/SOG.. member, agent? Zero Hour is another SWAT game, haven't played it. So there are good slow, tactical shooters, however I agree that Vietcong does something special. The other games are fun in multiplayer, Ready or Not will supposedly gain a Single player campaign eventually, but still, and while I really like it, it does go very far beyond what SWAT members actually do, they don't generally send one element of 5 officers to a farm with 30+ armed suspects. Ground Branch.. makes me feel like an actor searching for motivation, there is zero story or reasoning past, "oh there are bad guys, we need to take them out." Vietcong nails the feeling of "ok, this what a Green Beret would actually be doing in Vietnam", and they went very far out of their way making the game feel like that, and not just, "I'm in jungle shooting guys".
I remember we had a pirated copy of the game and at some point the allied and enemy npcs turned into little backpacks with hats, it was really hard to kill them but they couldn’t shoot you either
Oh man, I LOVED this game back in the day. I had so much fun with the MP as well. I didn't quite enjoy the sequel as much, but it was still a good, fun experience overall as well. I really wish these games would get re-released or even remastered at this point. Or even a new entry in the series. This, the Delta Force games (well some of them, not all) and the Joint Operation titles were amazing back in the early 2000s. Man I miss Novalogic also.
@@dallesamllhals9161 I mean it was just a glorified expansion pack, but I loved the original game so much, it was fine imo. Especially since it was the last one we got as it is.
What the...2 different youtubers made a Vietcong review 2 days apart from each other. You on the 05.06.22 and the other one 05.08.22 ruclips.net/video/SEVK4O4bi00/видео.html seems like the stars are in the right place lol and both videos start with "The early two thousand"
For fans of slow paced shooters like STALKER, this is a must play
Lol I've literally been playing Vietcong and Stalker as my main games the past few days
@@aaronmertz9824 no prairie fire?
Hidden & Dangerous series and classic Mafia too. Illusion was awesome.
Also Xenus (boiling point) and Hidden and dangerous 2 in first person view
Deadly Dozen, which I think is the same devs, is also good fun
Probably the best Vietnam themed game. It's amazing.
The best single-player one for sure. Idk tho, even with all its jank, Rising Storm is probably still my fav.
@@usedforks Oh yes, I meant single-player. Didn't play RS2 tho, my PC is too ancient lol
Conflict Vietnam.
A full remaster with a re-worked story and insane graphics with dark ptsd vibes would do this game justice.
It wouldnt even need insane graphics.. JUst better physics and AI.. It would be amazing.

Oh man, this game was my childhood, playing CTF on the map stream.
oh yeah, good times :)
The Bridge was sweaty AF.. one of the best multiplayer experiences i had in game to this day.. damn those guys with dragunovs
This is one of my favorite games -> actually here in Czechia, it is a kind of a legendary game :) Definitely recommended.
Agreed. Plus it has top notch dubbing.
Well deserved

I'm bugging out at the fact you and I both made a review on the same obscure game within a couple of days of each other
This was such a good game, also multiplayer was great.
Omg it's a miracle, you've done something different this time!
What a great review. It's quite rare to see this kind of thoughtful reviews. I will be definitely checking your another reviews.
Such great memories. Multiplayer was brilliant too with full servers on large maps.

I remember feeling pretty edgy when going down into the Vietcong tunnels. The sounds of them talking in the distance was spot on!
i remember being lost and confused while playing this game as a kid.. i didn't get what it was trying to do.. now i do

Best immersive game ever. An my favorite even after decades
Some of the original devs created new studio and are now working on spiritual successor of Vietcong
I’ve never had any interest in call of duty or much of the stuff that’s out currently but this game looks amazing!!! Thanks for this great review.

This game is one of the best, if not the best, war themed shooter I have ever played.
Great gameplay music and atmosphere this game had it all plus the quick fight option was awesome
I downloaded this game and for some reason it has this goofy glitch where I can’t switch to my other weapons, and can only draw my knife or a map. I have literally run missions where I am stabbing my way through.
Don't know why but I really like wargames with the Vietnam theme. I enjoy it more than the WW2 games that was so common during this time period.
How do you get rid of the screen tearing? Even forcing vsync on nvidia doesn’t completely remove it.
God, I loved that game!!!! And did love this map: 9:37 Played this online like crazy!
Thanks for the review. Gave me a good flashback...🤩👍

Hi i always het low fps when i play any help please?
It needs a remaster…. This and Hidden and Dangerous 2 as well!
i can't find this game on internet
can you help me to find this game
This looks awesome!
God I wish in still had my pc working I miss semi obscure yet really cool games like this
Its pretty cool they tried games like this.
I only played Nam 67 on OG Xbox and it was fun!
I wish a remastered RTX version would get developed
Does anyone know where u can get the game on a digital game service like steam cause the cd does not work.
oooh the memories of hours over hours playing this game😅
Recently I was trying to launch Vietcong 2 on Windows 10 but unsuccessfully
Loved this game. Second one, not so much
I think this one of the very first shooter games that introduced the horde mode.
The multiplayer was a lot of fun
0:50 Don't forget Line of Sight Vietnam!
Not heard of this one. It sounds interesting
Imagine this game with todays graphics….. especially the jungles.
We need remake version of this game
Where could I get the game?
The gun physics of this game are great
You didnt mention the best one of all ( Conflict Vietnam ) .
please tell me there's a co-op mode or mod for this! this would be a hell of a co-op session with friends!
no coop in the base game, not sure if there are mods for it.
Wait. Not "Steven" Hawkins?
This looks fun. I've only completed one Vietnam war game, and that was Shellshock 2, which was simply terrible, and I love it for that.
I loved this game.
i remember when i ran out of ammo in this game and only found a lousy gun
I had a seizure installing this game when It froze up. I never tried it again. I might give it a shot now though.
Wish I can buy it on steam... I really loved it and it's expansion as a kid
I loved this game, I remember getting it on release. I seem to remember that it had mutliplayer coop? can anyone confirm this? I remember salking slowly through the jungle with friends calling in artillery

Is this running on goldsrc?
If it's by Gathering of Developers it could be some version of the Mafia 1 engine.
Its Ptero-Engine II, made by Pterodon. Mafie 1 (and Hidden & Dangerous 2, Chameleon by Illusion Softworks use LS3D engine)
