I'm not a Ham yet but I did start toying around with receiving FT8. Installed WSJT-X and grid tracker on my HTPC, and hooked up my shortwave receiver (Eton Elite Executive and an MLA-30+) up to the audio input on the PC and started seeing how far I could hear. FT8 is quite interesting.
@@HamRadioDX coast to coast in the USA was pretty easy, I heard a few from Spain, and one from Japan, it'll probably do a bit better if my antenna was outdoors.
Hi there Hayden & TO, MMaany thanks for a great livestsream video. I've learnt from it, as I'm new to WSJT X to the extent that ive not got the radio set up for it yet. I'm still learning about this softwear, and just installed Net Tracker having heard abt it frojm 1 of your other videos Hayden. Also my deepest apollogies for spelling your name wrong in the comments section of your video, From Beginner to Pro abt WSJT X.. Kind Regards, Ray, M0RAY, Locator jo10ii.
And not related to anything, WH0A (Whoa there!!) is the SAIPAN BBQ AMATEUR RADIO CLUB. They have BBQ right in their name. I think I'm going to have to relocate!
Hayden , this is one of the best videos you have done as far as you can go with FT8 for transreceivers. I have WSJT-X and Gridtracker working well having heard Western Australia here in Southern England tonight. I have been through many RUclips videos but can not find the answer to how to let the station know in Perth how well the signal was received at my QTH. If you have a transreceiver the [Rpt Sent] and [Rpt Rcvd] are pre-populated, however when you press [Log QSO] button but for receivers and SDRs they are not. I can see on the Band Activity on the main left screen under the column dB "-20" . Therefore to advise the Operator in W.A. do I put "-20" in [Rpt Sent] or [Rpt Rcvd]? I already have a few eQSLs from FT8 stations but I am not sure if the operators are aware how well or how poorly their signal is at my QTH without manually filling in the figure. You are making Amateur Radio fun and not boring like it has been in the past , thank you for making a worthwhile difference.
Thank you Nick for your kind comments, I appreciate it. -20 would go in [Rpt Sent] for you log as that is the signal that you received the station at and subsequently transmitted back to the other end. Hope that makes sense! Thanks
@@HamRadioDX Perfect sense and now being used for all reports from today onwards. I must say that Gridtracker has a nice feature when using WSJT-X does not list every line with a country apart from CQ. If you go to Gridtracker , hit Rx DXCC and then under decodes a country name appears against every line. This is how I managed to notice the signal from Perth, WA yesterday.
I have wsjtx-x running but when I install grid tracker it hangs at the initial startup screen - does any one know if it will run on Mac m1 with Monterey 12.7
When I call CQ "Country prefix" my call my locatoin I get this my call my location> How do I get rid of the left and right pointing brackets as well as the undercore ? thanks, Ken
watch these gridtracker video i have got hooked with it, and i have manage to find 3 new countries Pakistan, ST VINCENT and Malawi.. I am a big POTA hunter i have got tones of POTA by seeing them in gradtracker.
Check the settings in maps. QSX line width I think... there is also a button called "animate paths" or something similar. Try those, I don't have Gridtracker in front of me at the time of typing.
Hi Thank You for a great presentation on Gridtracker !!! very usefull ... I have mine to run, but it seems like they have close for new members !!! any work around ? Thanks Niels OZ1CGQ

That's cool, how far did you hear?

Great video. I just installed GridTracker and it is showing my previous contacts based on the WSJT-X logs. Wow! 🏆🤝🏽
Nice 👍
Thanks, I'll try this out on the Pi. I like the way you say Gridtracker.

I have a question please. In Gridtracker why do i sometime have countries outlined in red?
I believe that shows countries that other stations are calling. i.e. CQ NA [Callsign] would be calling CQ to all North American stations.
@@HamRadioDX Thanks

Hayden and Steve🥰😎🔥👍❤
I absolutely love it!
As a person originally from Washington state, it bugs me that gridTracker marks their map incorrectly.
It's okay, most people do that ;)
Dark Mode Forever ❤

Very informative, but I can’t get activated paths to show. I’ve seen them before on my setup. VO1OK
