Guys like Cam and TJ or only going to continue to get older and it will be a damn shame if they never get the chance to compete for a ring, let alone in the playoffs….

I’ve been irritated with Tomlin for nearly a decade. Situationally, he rarely seems to know when to risk it and when to play it safe; his politician mouth-I call him soundbite Mike-makes me roll my eyes because his words and actions seldom align; and his inability to discipline the divas has contributed to the wasted potential of too many players. He could’ve left in 2018 and saved us 5 years of the same torture.

Time to go, Coach Fraud. 1 super bowl in 17 years is unacceptable for a coach of his alleged caliber. His non losing season streak is the only thing he has going for him now. The amount of losses to horrific teams, the lack of accountability, and all of the late season derailments. We have the 2nd longest playoff win drought in franchise history, with the only longer one being that one we don't speak of from 1933-71. He uses word salad to cover up for the fact that he has no real plan. This team has been mediocre for 3 years, and I doubt that changes anytime soon unless we scrap Tomlin.

As Mike Tomlin likes to say: "The turd is the turd" (or something like that.), and this turd has sailed, so, sadly, it's just time to watch it circle the great toilet of life one last time before it vanishes into the dark sewer of an uncertain future. (I might be pushing the metaphor now) -- but what I really mean to say is: I agree. I stand by my long-time argument that Tomlin's last great TEAM was mostly Cowher's team. Mike T has drafted some great players since then, but the great ones either leave or go off the rails (see: AB, Martavis Bryant, etc.), which one could argue points to a COACHING issue... and, great individual talent aside, Tomlin has never build a great TEAM... which again suggests a coaching issue.
Anyway, hang in there and keep up the great work -- it was depressing when there was no episode (from you) this week. The losing episodes are therapeutic.

I think Tomlin's done in Pittsburgh. He has the rest of this season to change my mind, but I'd like to comment on his legacy. People keep saying that Tomlin won with Cowher's team. Tomlin's SB team was three years removed from Cowher's and I credit Tomlin for developing James Harrison, who was pretty bad under Cowher. I also credit Tomlin for developing talent like AB from a 6th round. Early Tomlin had a fire and a swagger that the Steelers really needed and it lead the Steelers to the best Super Bowl in NFL history. Where I think Tomlin falters is after the 2010 SB loss when Big Ben gets hit with his sexual misconduct allegations. From that point on, Tomlin is now in the business of trying to manage erratic players and it's now clear that if you're good enough, you can behave extremely poorly and still have a job. I think Tomlin could have recovered and it look like that's exactly what he did in 2014-16 with the Killer B's. But once again, Tomlin had to put up with a clown locker room and he allowed AB and Bell's egos to destroy the locker room and set the Steelers back years. Then we had to massage Big Ben's ego and not draft his replacement earlier and waste more years. We keep wasting top draft choices because they're growing up to be entitled bratty lazy divas. The players like Tomlin, but Tomlin has no authority behind what he says. I think he's been worn down and I think he compromised his values a long time ago.
Tomlin was a genuinely great coach, but his ability has slowly eroded away and he seems more interested in making excuses and subtly blaming the media for bad coverage of him than he does in doing what it takes to win.

    ****TL;DR AT END****
The last two weeks brings up some very uncomfortable conversations. I know what I'm about to say will never happen because the Rooneys and the Steeler organization would never consider doing something this extreme, I'm not even sure that I would do it, but this conversation at least needs to happen.
The Steelers have the highest paid defense in the NFL. They just allowed 21 points in the first half to an offense coming off a historically terrible stretch in which they scored 13 points in their last 3 games and they had only scored at least 21 points in an entire game just once all season long. The defense is extremely over reliant on TJ Watt, the Steelers are 1-10 since 2017 when he's not on the field. Sure, the defense can play lights out sometimes, but that's becoming increasingly rare as of late. TJ Watt is going to be 30 years old next year. Minkah Fitzpatrick, Diontae Johnson and Cole Holcomb will all be 28. Cam Heyward will be 35. Patrick Peterson will be 34. Alex Highsmith will be 27. Kenny Pickett, Jaylen Warren, and Najee Harris will all be 26. Most of our good players, especially on defense, are aging. Even if the Steelers get a slam dunk hire at OC, Omar Khan has another elite draft class, Pickett becomes a solid QB out of nowhere, the offensive line is fixed, the inside linebacker group is finally solidified, assuming all of these issues and more being fixed within the next 2-3 years, do you really think this team will be able to compete for a Super Bowl with TJ Watt well into his 30's? Honestly, as much as it sucks to say, the Steelers Super Bowl window has probably already slammed shut back in 2020, maybe even 2018. I understand that Tomlin and the Steelers always want to compete and win now, there's nothing wrong with that, but do you really think this team will even win a single playoff game any time soon unless literally EVERYTHING goes perfectly according to plan? My answer is probably no. It's easy to complain and be absolutely cynical, but I at least want to provide one possible solution.
Now I know there's probably a 0% chance that the Rooneys ever seriously consider doing this, but here's what I was alluding to in the first paragraph: THE NUCLEAR OPTION. There are many problems with how the current roster has been constructed especially due to the lack of talent on offense and the expensive defense not living up to their pay grade more often than not. Kevin Colbert was a great GM but he left the team in a rough spot with some questionable draft picks and free agent signings in recent years. It will be a very difficult task for Omar Khan and company to fix. The coaching staff has been quite awful in recent years under Tomlin, I can't say anything else that already hasn't been said for years and years by many others. The Steelers don't just have a Matt Canada problem, or a Mike Tomlin problem, or a Kenny Pickett problem, they have an "almost everything" problem. What does that mean?
Omar Khan seems to be an excellent GM so far and I think he and his assistants are worth keeping around, but the nuclear option will completely clean house beneath them. Tomlin and the ENTIRE coaching staff, gone. Most of the big contracts on the team, gone, including TJ Watt. Now again, I don't think I would take it that far, but he is at the absolute peak of his career and he has dealt with injuries the past two years and will be 30 next year. I would hate to see him leave but at least two first round picks (and a few mid round picks and cap savings on top of that) would be hard to turn down. Would you want to acquire the maximum king's ransom of draft capital that he will ever be worth, or potentially witness his value decline sharply over the next 3-5 years with the Steelers potentially never competing for a Super Bowl anyway? As absolutely insane as that may sound, nothing should be completely off the table.
I told you this conversation would be uncomfortable.
Players like Minkah, Diontae, Najee, Cam Heyward, even Alex Highsmith could be potentially traded or become cap casualties as well. Young players on rookie contracts like GP, Broderick Jones, JPJ, Keeanu Benton, etc. along with other relatively cheap solid players can obviously stay. The entire QB room would be eventually replaced, including Pickett, to make room for a future top ten pick to fit a modern NFL offense. Of course, not all of this has to happen in a single offseason, ideally two or maybe three. An offensive minded head coach would be brought in with a strong defensive coordinator to take care of that side of the ball. Along with them comes an identity and culture change from top to bottom in the locker room. It will take at least several years to build the team again from the ground up, but hopefully the Steelers can finally adapt to the modern NFL and become a great team once again.
It's certainly not the only solution to the "almost everything" problem, but it's one that I haven't seen anybody else talk about. That "no losing seasons" streak would certainly come to an end without Tomlin and TJ Watt, the Steelers could even become a basement dweller of a franchise for a short time, but it could ultimately be for the better. I'm not a genius, I don't have all the answers, I'm just a delusional Steelers fan, but part of me genuinely thinks ripping the giant bandaid off now and bleeding for a few years would be better than the path of eternal mediocrity the Steelers are currently going down with Tomlin at the helm. At least Omar Khan would have plenty of high draft picks to have fun with and the new head coach can build the identity of the team the way he envisions it instead of working with a foundation that has shown cracks for several years. If the Steelers stay the course with Mike Tomlin, bring in another no name offensive coordinator, and keep the status quo, the team will continue to stagnate for many years until they eventually hit rock bottom, like the Patriots have ironically. It's not a matter of if, but when. At least with my solution you would at least get some return on investment instead of losing absolutely everything for a Super Bowl window that was just a mirage. The next 5-10 years are going to hurt no matter what, but we're all used to that already. How far would you go to completely rebuild the team from scratch?
I highly doubt anybody would bother reading this whole unhinged rant anyways, but if you did, I would love to hear what other people think of a hypothetical scenario such as this. I need some sleep.
TL;DR: Blowing up the roster, trading TJ Watt and others, and getting rid of the entire coaching staff might sound completely crazy, but at this point it could be the best (and maybe inevitable) solution to the Steelers' many problems.

I completely agree Tomlin has over stayed his time as HC. I have been saying that for 5 years but here is the problem. The only opinion that matters is Art Rooney II. Art Rooney is VERY CLOSE FRIENDS with Tomlin. The only way Tomlin is “let go” or traded is if the Steelers lose every single game on this schedule. If the Steelers make the playoffs there is no way Tomlin is getting let go. He will be re-signed for 3 more years. That would be a tragedy because this vomit we are stuck watching week in and week out will continue. So pray for a complete and total collapse because if that doesn’t happen you mark my words Tomlin will be here for 4 more years.

I've been scared of thinking about these days but it's true. Let me ask this, would you rather keep having .500+ seasons but stay mediocre (8-9 wins a season), or have a losing season, reset and get some draft capitol, sign some good free agents, and then be a contender. I asked my close friends and they took the second option. I took the second option, my mother took the second option, and I think it's time for the Steelers to take the second option. All the good teams (bills, dolphins, eagles, lions, chiefs, 49ners, etc) have had losing seasons and look at them now. Chiefs won the superbowl twice in 4 years, Lions have 10 wins and will make the playoffs, 49ners have been to the NFC champ game twice in a row, Bills have made the playoffs every year since 2019, Eagles have made 2 super bowls in 5 years and won one, the Dolphins have Tua, Tyreek, Jalen Ramsey, Jevon Holland, and a speedy offense that is singlehandedly guiding them to the playoffs. It's not rocket science. I don't like saying "move on from Tomlin", but it's time.

Tomlin was handed a Superbowl caliber team and damn near lost two superbowls. Ben and Holmes bailed his ass out. Since then nothing but a regular season winning record, ask the Patriots how does a 16=0 regular season feel. Only post season success matters and for 13+ years he has done nothing with a franchise quarterback the entire time. Stop drinking the cool=aid people we need to change. Yes will he be hired in no time probably but lets see if he can take a bad team, come in and turn them around, my guess he will be further exposed.

It’s time to stop being complacent and hiring old college people he worked with before cuz it’s not working anymore and I understand his values and loyalty but it’s hurting the team and the people that pay for the tickets to sit in those seats and pay 300$ in nose bleeds section to watch players take plays off a play or two because they they can under tomlin is totally disrespectful to the fans and he says it’s all about the fans but doesn’t do anything about it just be a life and a great coach is all we’re asking stop the pussy foot bull💩we all now that it’s not been good for years now, js own up to it and do great and better things for goodness sake!!🤬

Hey you’re right this is your show you say what you wanna say the hell with everybody else I to agree with you Tomlin is done and over with Hearon deserves to be a coach no more at least with a Pittsburgh Steelers he go somewhere else we don’t need them and pick it Can you pick it should just stay on the sidelines or maybe trade him for a good quarterback experience quarterback Cuz I tell you something about Kenny Pickett. He has some good receivers and he doesn’t even know how to use them 3rd cup online receivers to get rid of both of them can you pick it and Tomlin and I agree with you you can say anything you want is your show and I agree with you 110% I’m there with you. I also agree with you never diehard Pittsburgh Steeler fan and I live in Tucson Arizona and that’s all I got to say about that.

I feel the frustration and respect the sentiment, but I think youre wrong despite being on point of this being one of the lowest points of Tomlins tenure. I think we really have to stop looking at this roster with rose colored glasses. Outside of TJ Cam Boz and Minkah no one else on this roster is above replacment level except for possibly Warren. This is a full on rebuild. Howany pro bowlers do you legit think we will have? Maybe 3? We have no QB, mid at best o-line, we are injured as fuck at key positions and despite all that we are 7-6 and in playoff position controlling our destiny with winnable games ahead. No we won't compete for a Super Bowl this year but we were never going to. Tomlin deserves time to finish the rebuild. If we cant get it together by the end of this contract I could see parting ways, but no way we should let him go this offseason IMO.

    • @5StarMatchup
      @5StarMatchup  5 месяцев назад

I hear you on the rebuild thing but my frustration is that, imo they've been doing that since 2019 but haven't really gotten better. I guess maybe they've built a decent o line, but other than that where is the wow? Where is the potential? If Canada was wrong for the job, why did they bring him back? For an organization that prides itself on stability above all else, they're already failing at that as it pertains to the most important position on the field and the first time they've had to "bring along" a quarterback in the last twenty years. That's what bothers me more than anything.
I agree on the talent of the roster overall but, that's on them. They could've had Jalen Hurts. They could've had Creed Humphrey. Deebo Samuel. Etc.
Respect your points though. I'm just tired of having the same exact conversation every week for almost 5 years now.

@@5StarMatchup agree. Colbert didn't nail the Ben transition and we have stagnated as a result, but then again almost no franchises can nail that transition. Khan had an amazing first season, and our draft is looking like it will produce stars, so I'm hoping for great things to come. But if we don't improve by the end of next season I think regime change is a definite possibility.

Everyone knows Tomlins time is over with the Steelers…..EXCEPT……TOMLIN! It’s going to take a nudge from ARII. Just like it did to get rid of Canada….I don’t care how many times Tomlin says it was his decision….that’s BS! The Steelers and Tomlin will both be better off after the divorce. Hopefully we can trade him for some early round picks.

That’s true he must come to an end cause he’s sucking a big one. He just ain’t got it not no more he’s a losing coach and we are no. Pittsburgh doesn’t like losing coaches or losing teams. It’s time for him to leave and it’s right he’s always looking at other coaches, the other coaches are laughing at him he just can’t win the big one no more and it’s not all on him. It’s up to the quarterback to he’s not ready to play NFL right now this is sideline him and make him watch and get a good quarterback, back there and I find it a experience quarterback, and sideline Pickett to wb

That's not fair. We just lost back to back games to two teams that only won 2 games prior. We all have a right to be angry and disappointed in our team. We have the talent of a 12-5 record but are failing right now

    • @5StarMatchup
      @5StarMatchup  5 месяцев назад +4

Well I reject that respectfully. I'm a fan. I don't work for the team. I'm allowed to have an opinion that changes week by week just like everyone else. I can still think it's time to move on while still hoping my team wins, can't I? Everyone on national networks that gets paid millions more than me is allowed to say whatever they want whenever they want, but me with my little 17k subscriber channel I'm not allowed to feel things? Again much love but disagree with your sentiment. I still want them to win I just believe we've reached time where any real success will be with a different HC.

If 8-8 isnt losing then it isnt winning. Its the exact definition mediocrity is what that is.
The fucking facts are Tomlin lucked out being handed a super bowl winning team and the players made coach look better than he was/is.
Year after year its just been great talent drafted to the team but were never coached up properly by coach T to be the best player that they can possibly be.
Ive never seen a coach do so little with so much.
This man has beaten the patriots 2 times out of 14 games and NONE of those 2 victories were a patriots team with Brady under center.
THATS fucking BAD. The only time coach T has been able to make it tonthe AFCCG or SB Is bevause the Jets under Rex Ryan cleaned out the pats and colts or the ravens cleaned house and beat the Pats.
As far as KP8 goes, im not wven judging that man until ive seen him play a year under a half way decent talented OC.
All the shitty stats and judging people have been saying and bringing up about him so far is what he was forced to play with under canada.
Take canada away and kenny was making chunk plays and moving the ball right. Almost like he was being handicapped by a shitty OC or something. 🤔
Im refuse to judge Kenny until he been given a proper chance.
