I like that you showed real Cairo. Most vloggers only seek out slums or bad neighbourhoods because they want to "explore".
Well different type of video. For a different audience. 😄
Both are "real". A lot of us have relatives and friends in the neighborhoods you call "bad", don't look down on your own people no one chooses to be poor/rich.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤@@MongeyMongey
In fact, you can find the English language more common among young people and not the elderly, and we learn English as a second language since the beginning of kindergarten and some continue to study it, even in universities there are complete curriculums in English such as medicine, science and others, and when we move to the secondary stage we choose to study a second foreign language like , French, Spanish, Italian, or German, and you can also find fluent speakers of more than one language in the tourist places. Unfortunately, you did not go to the tourist places so you can't find a lot of its speakers and this is normal. It's not like if I go to America I can find anyone who speaks Arabic.
As an Egyptian at the age of 18, I can speak four languages.
I'm not too interested in the touristy places as you have seen! But I am sure they speak more English out there. And good job on 4 languages mate!
@@MartinHervy thank you very much and hope u have a great time my friend 😊💚
@@user-tz6jr6by5j
A great video Martin Hervy.
🙏🏻
I like it..I hope you enjoyed in Egypt ❤🙌
Thank you! It was very short but I did enjoy my stay :)
So, Martin. Great video. You're obviously a very nice guy. Some observations:
1. The honking: Since Egyptians are hyper-sociable, drivers communicate by honking similar to morse code. The beeps are equivalent to words, mostly swear words and the names of the two biggest football clubs, Ahly & Zamalek. Ahly = long beep + short beep. Zamalek = three short beeps.
2. There are more obelisks in Rome than Cairo. Guess why.
3. Abdin and downtown, which you admired, were influenced by French architecture and modeled on Paris in the 1880s.
4. Egyptian quantities of sugar = usually 5-6 teaspoons of pure diabetes. How do you eat so much and stay so thin?!
5. Egyptian children are free ranging in the streets.
6. Egyptians will always give you directions even if they don't know what they are talking about because they would be too embarrassed not to help you.
1. Whaaaat really?! 😂
2. My History knowledge is dreadful. I have no clue at all.
6. Haha good to know: rely on Google maps
Egypt is amazing country
Hello Martin.. your video reminded me of beautiful egypt with all of its good and bad places. however even people don't speak english but still they had a smile saying they cant. some countries in europe including france, people get offended just if you ask them if they can speak english or not. they become angry for no reason. many of the young generation can speak different languages but unfortunately you visited only some areas where the level of education is low or even asking the old people who were not even educated.
i suggest u should visit other places in cairo and i'm sure you will feel so different. such as Heliopolis, nasr city and so on.. not every where in cairo seems like BARBES in paris :)
You are right, people always were nice and smiling even when we didn't speak the same language. That barber was the best example!
Hello Martin 👋 I've just started watching your videos and I'm enjoying them. I'm from Zimbabwe in Southern Africa. It'd be great for you to visit us in the South of the continent. We're fluent English speakers so you'll be ok. And there's soooo much to see and do here. Safe travels to you. Best wishes from Zimbabwe🇿🇼
Oh I would so love to go to Zimbabwe! One day hopefully 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Egypt have alot of private schools such as American, britisch..... thats why most young speack English good. As an egyptian i speack 5 languages
Has* British* I can speak* s in Egyptians اسف يا معلم
Great vlog you seem nice, i am Egyptian hope you enjoyed.
Thanks mate, I did!
Hello Martin, I am from the city of Suez. You can see the city of Alexandria and it enjoys extreme beauty and one of the seven wonders of the world. Alexandria is in the Greek style, while the new city of Cairo is in the French style, while the new administrative capital is in the East Asian style. Giza and Luxor are in the Pharaonic style, while Cairo is in the old Ottoman style, but we are in Suez. Ismailia and Port Said are as calm as Central Europe, and if you want the climate of eastern and northern Europe with ice, go to the city of St. Catherine in the winter. i have 16 years and i have 3 langue english and french and Italian language🥰🥰
Oh well I hope I can come visit one day!!
🥰@@MartinHervy
Hlo Martin your videos are so nice
Thank you very much my friend!
Actually we all study English as a basic subject from kindergarten to secondary school, and most of Egypt’s colleges teach in the English language, especially scientific colleges. Our education in Egypt is very good and not as the rapper said. But you will meet in the street most of the people who are simple in education, perhaps or the elderly. As for the youth group, you will find Many speak English fluently.
the way the barber smacked the little guy's face 😭
Yeah that was crazy 🤣
I love that he wasn't sure what red velvet was 😂😂
I'm all for fancy names ..but naming things by their flavour is just more practical 🤓
Heyy martin i watch your every vlog!!!
I suggest you that you must come in bangladesh
Oh thank you! I hope to come one day of course
Nice vid like always, Hey If you go to Mauritius someday ask them If they speak French. I think that'd be interesting.
Oh yes great idea. I want to go to these places with some french history. Puduchery in India, Senegal and ivory coast, even Vietnam.
@@MartinHervy Cool! Keep it up 👍
Hello.. friend i use to watch your videos, because i am shadowing your conversations for learning english. Your English is superb. If you again come to India, please.. Come to south India.
Much appreciated! I hope it helps you. And yes south India will happen at some point :D
Yess
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The Russo-Egyptian guy was so cool, kudos to bro.
it looks more liberal and safer than Molenbeek (village in Brussels, belgium).
Is Molenbeek that bas? 🤔🤔
@@MartinHervy What do you mean "bas"? 🤔
Bad*
@@MartinHervy Oh yeah dude, it is that bad.
I am not sure whether you troll your area or Egypt😅 @@larssrensen4353
When you come to India visit our city Hyderabad
😂😂😂guy runs you over you say sorry
Yeah I gotta stop doing that! 😑
Answer: yes and you might ask me how, well i am egyptian and i can also speak english
It always happened to me I am Nigerian living in Cairo Egypt most of them didn't speak English
You don't know Arabic and deal with Egyptians normally but I am Egyptian and have lived in Egypt all my life and I do not know how to deal with them 😅
Nice vlog 👍🏽
Much appreciated mate
I can and I’m Egyptian 🇪🇬
Thank you for your comment Fawzia!
@@MartinHervy No Problem
If you want beautiful arabic city, visit amman in jordan
It was on my list. But Cairo is quite pretty already no!?
@@MartinHervy
Yes cario beautiful, but amman less crowded, any way if you come to amman you should eat mansaf
How did you not get the Thierry Henry!
The Egyptian accent on it threw me off!
If you walked around New Cairo you'd find alot more of the people speak a good level of English.
I would love to visit it but I didn't have time. Hopefully later!
11:56 he said "I think you speak Egyption very well", I believe most people there would think you're Egyptian by the way you look especially with glasses, even the Thai woman thought so as she didn't ask where are you from
Oh that's interesting! It didn't even cross my mind it was that 🤔
Hill brother how are you
Haven't watched the video yet, but just going to say that I'm Egyptian and I speak English, and many do, but the majority you'll meet in Central Cairo won't. You just need to go to the more "higher class" neighborhoods for that. But as a tourist you'll probably never go there.
Edit: If you entered inside Al Ahly Club, you'll find many people who speak English inside.
As 11:50 , the guy said I wish to speak English so I can leave this country.
12:14 he's saying Thierry Henry xD
There is Carrefour and other supermarkets, but yeah not in Downtown Cairo.
I feel bad I didn't understand Thierry Henry 😭😂
11:50 is haaaaarsh though haha
if you have any idea as to what Zamalek looked like in the 50s or 60s....... this and other videos like it would make you want to erase thinking again about Cairo and the Zamalek you once knew.
What soap you using
Asking the important questions
Well I am very interested in saving our environment, so actually I have been washing with water only since 2013. People get used to the smell 👍
@@MartinHervy really
❤
12 in the morning?
Did I say that? I meant noon 😬
Have you explored bihar in India...
Can Egyptians speak Egyptian?
(spoiler: they speak arabic)
I still makes that mistakes in pretty much all Arab speaking countries I go to 🤓😅
U think Egypt is like any other 500 years old country???? Do you know how many versions of languages and updates we spoke through 7000 years of history??? Lol u think we just started 500 years ago like your backward new countries lol
2:18 right down that street is where i go to school
11:48 He tells you that he wished he knew English so he could leave this country😂😂😂😂😂😂
Haha that's dark 😂
Who told you that?? Maybe not taking pictures of the police, but stopping women to ask them isn't something wrong, even locals can stop women to ask them, there's nothing wrong about that , don't invent laws
انا مصرى ولا اتحدث اللغة الانجليزية .
لا يوجد فى مصر الا اللغة العربية
I am getting Indian vibes from this city.
How💀
I feel offended because you called the Azan as absolutely 😡
You shouldn't feel offended by one's opinion. But you can disagree. I understand
How ironic, a French guy who doesn't actually speak very good English himself is going around Cairo critiquing how well others speak English
That guy for sure got sick; street food in Cairo is not clean; and will give you the worst stomach bug you can imagine, on the Toilet all day!!! Not to mention; he got ripped-off; paid 60 LE for something that only costs 5 LE. Do your research before you go.
That guy did not get sick
@@MartinHervy bs
Yah no. I spent most of my summers in Egypt growing up and always ate lib from the people selling and it was incredible
He wasn't ripped-off .. the price is 60 for Egyptians
I lived in Cairo for 3 years that price is a rip-off
