    I like that you showed real Cairo. Most vloggers only seek out slums or bad neighbourhoods because they want to "explore".

      Both are "real". A lot of us have relatives and friends in the neighborhoods you call "bad", don't look down on your own people no one chooses to be poor/rich.

    In fact, you can find the English language more common among young people and not the elderly, and we learn English as a second language since the beginning of kindergarten and some continue to study it, even in universities there are complete curriculums in English such as medicine, science and others, and when we move to the secondary stage we choose to study a second foreign language like , French, Spanish, Italian, or German, and you can also find fluent speakers of more than one language in the tourist places. Unfortunately, you did not go to the tourist places so you can't find a lot of its speakers and this is normal. It's not like if I go to America I can find anyone who speaks Arabic.
    As an Egyptian at the age of 18, I can speak four languages.

    • @MartinHervy
      @MartinHervy  Год назад +7

      I'm not too interested in the touristy places as you have seen! But I am sure they speak more English out there. And good job on 4 languages mate!

    So, Martin. Great video. You're obviously a very nice guy. Some observations:
    1. The honking: Since Egyptians are hyper-sociable, drivers communicate by honking similar to morse code. The beeps are equivalent to words, mostly swear words and the names of the two biggest football clubs, Ahly & Zamalek. Ahly = long beep + short beep. Zamalek = three short beeps.
    2. There are more obelisks in Rome than Cairo. Guess why.
    3. Abdin and downtown, which you admired, were influenced by French architecture and modeled on Paris in the 1880s.
    4. Egyptian quantities of sugar = usually 5-6 teaspoons of pure diabetes. How do you eat so much and stay so thin?!
    5. Egyptian children are free ranging in the streets.
    6. Egyptians will always give you directions even if they don't know what they are talking about because they would be too embarrassed not to help you.

    • @MartinHervy
      @MartinHervy  11 месяцев назад +1

      1. Whaaaat really?! 😂
      2. My History knowledge is dreadful. I have no clue at all.
      6. Haha good to know: rely on Google maps

    Hello Martin.. your video reminded me of beautiful egypt with all of its good and bad places. however even people don't speak english but still they had a smile saying they cant. some countries in europe including france, people get offended just if you ask them if they can speak english or not. they become angry for no reason. many of the young generation can speak different languages but unfortunately you visited only some areas where the level of education is low or even asking the old people who were not even educated.
    i suggest u should visit other places in cairo and i'm sure you will feel so different. such as Heliopolis, nasr city and so on.. not every where in cairo seems like BARBES in paris :)

    Hello Martin, I am from the city of Suez. You can see the city of Alexandria and it enjoys extreme beauty and one of the seven wonders of the world. Alexandria is in the Greek style, while the new city of Cairo is in the French style, while the new administrative capital is in the East Asian style. Giza and Luxor are in the Pharaonic style, while Cairo is in the old Ottoman style, but we are in Suez. Ismailia and Port Said are as calm as Central Europe, and if you want the climate of eastern and northern Europe with ice, go to the city of St. Catherine in the winter. i have 16 years and i have 3 langue english and french and Italian language🥰🥰

    Actually we all study English as a basic subject from kindergarten to secondary school, and most of Egypt’s colleges teach in the English language, especially scientific colleges. Our education in Egypt is very good and not as the rapper said. But you will meet in the street most of the people who are simple in education, perhaps or the elderly. As for the youth group, you will find Many speak English fluently.

    Haven't watched the video yet, but just going to say that I'm Egyptian and I speak English, and many do, but the majority you'll meet in Central Cairo won't. You just need to go to the more "higher class" neighborhoods for that. But as a tourist you'll probably never go there.
    Edit: If you entered inside Al Ahly Club, you'll find many people who speak English inside.
    As 11:50 , the guy said I wish to speak English so I can leave this country.
