    I have had my Lighting for a couple years now. Love to fly it. I have folding prop, 3s 800mah and my cg is at the LE. Mine rolls ok. Even buried LEDs in the wings and it is much heavier but still flies beautifully. In a high wind the wings flap like crazy but the EPP is so strong it doesn't break. I also laminated the tail. My goto plane.

    That was great example of having to tweak the plane for proper flight. You tweaked it and the difference in the plane's behavior was readily evident. Always worth watching your videos.

    Good explanation of the two ways to use UHU Por. Sir Matthew Ogborne noted this in an old build video of his and that's the way I have been using it since. Allows you to line up joints before it dries completely, and after a few minutes it won't come apart!

  • @julianhumphrey4843
    @julianhumphrey4843 5 лет назад +1

    can hear it in your voice you really enjoyed flying this, and what a great wing/plank/fun flyer, but in your slope video thats where it really is at, the perfect powered slope wing that if you lose lift give a bit of throttle to get it back

  • @TakeItToTheGround
    @TakeItToTheGround 5 лет назад +8

    I think I'd be tempted to reinforce the tail, install another servo and try the tail out as a rudder.

  • @Valkyry5
    @Valkyry5 5 лет назад

    It's a copy of the old epp Alula! That indeed brought back memories the videos I use to gock overall few years back. A stiffer spar ,a little goop, a little sanding and some laminate; you would have been definitely ready for a bit of wind. Very inspirational my friend.

  • @KenKneknaneek
    @KenKneknaneek 5 лет назад

    Very nice. I love the way it flies like a huge hawk. All you need to do is glue some feathers on the wing tips ha ha . This build gives us lots of ideas how to make an aircraft out of spare wings left over from crashes in the past, or to make one out of spare foam just laying around. Good job. Waiting to see it on a slope. Happy Flying

      Joe Lewandowski that’s what I’m going to do with my build, use stiffer spars, laminate it, and probably coat the nose with some flexible epoxy . I’m pretty sure you can sand down the fuselage corners and make it more round and aerodynamic as well.

      @@AndrewNewton I finally picked one up to build during lockdown. Love these all EPP planes, they're so easy to mod. All you need is flat stock and FoamTac. Ended up enlarging the fuse and made it into a twin tractor. Your vid was really excellent because we can really get a good idea of the flight characteristics when you wring them out like you do! I'm hoping to add FPV to it soon. Maidened last week, flew a few packs through it today. It's a nice gentle/efficient flier.

  • @silbernersurfer8264
    @silbernersurfer8264 3 года назад

    Maybe for saving some weight 5g servos would work also. And off course small ESC, shorten all wires, using smaller motor and lighter battery.
    Not sure if this will match the needed weight distribution.

    BG link working "check" DLG throw somewhat working.. "check" ordered one :) (few years ago i ordered the DW eagle, didn't look pretty, told myself never to buy a DW again but still works 2 year later.) So ordered the Lighting, and a eagle (the old eagle is teaching my dad to fly)

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад

      Certainly quirky designs. A few freinds have DW Eagles and it took a while to like them, but they are still flying, same as you.

    • @AnandNL
      @AnandNL 5 лет назад

      I added a 8mm spar to the wing, cut ailerons, switched them from the original side, then added the nano talon stabilizer and placed the servo so they would work with the stabilizer without reversing. Added a flitetest style powerpod with 2217 1050kv motor, 9x5 prop and a 2200 3s.

  • @btbplanevids

    Cool little wing, and so nice and quiet compared to a pusher setup! The fin just needs a bit of flat CF strip letting into it - you could see it flexing from side to side in flight on the rearward facing video. That might even have been affecting the rolls (although more aileron throw and more speed would obviously help).

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад +1

    A “powered wing glider” instead of a flying wing. A tractor wing is unusual, but the lack of noise that is normally associated with a flying wing is nice.
