    Looks like fun, just the inspiration I need to finish mine... I made it as far as getting the air frame all built, but no electronics so a few minutes this weekend and I hope to have as much fun flying mine as I did watching you. Thanks for the build and maiden videos Andrew they are appreciated and enjoyed.

      It doesn't really need it IMHO ... it's a lightweight & slow-flying model; the only time I've seen any obvious wing flex on mine was in an outside loop (I won't be doing that again :-D ). It looks pretty silly doing aerobatics anyway, although I guess flying inverted (which it does OK) is a good way to freak out any real birds in the area!

    Nice maiden! The 'stock' motor is a 2216 ... not sure what the Kv is (no markings) but it only pulls 8A on full throttle with a 9x4 folder (on 3S). It really doesn't need much power to fly well - I'm averaging about 2.8A over a full flight. As you said, it looks pretty convincing gliding around with a bit of height - loved the reaction from your local wildlife. I filled in the 'gap' underneath (behind the firewall) with some scrap EPP, and covered the bottom of the fus. with white tape back to where the markings start ... just to protect the foam a bit on landing. The wing is a little flexible but like you I reckon it's fine for what this model is intended for ... really not an issue in the air.

    I see you made the same mistake I did putting the tail fins on upside down. :-) I cut mine back off and cleaned the stick and re-glued right side up. This makes them sit much flatter since the edges are angled a bit. Obviously, it flies fine like you have it though!

  • @BryonGaskin

    I've got the Skynetic version of this same plane with the same dimensions/specs. I dropped a ZOHD Kopilot in it so I can fly about 300 yards out over an open field from a local park. It flies great in level mode, but when I switch to manual it wants to pitch up really bad when I throttle up above 50%. I 3d printed motor mounts with a 3 % off set down and to the right. I'm wondering if that is too much or not enough. It seems like it is trimmed well for manual mode as I'm in the 20 to 40% throttle. If cut the throttle to zero it just slowly glides back to earth in manual mode. Feels like my thrust angle is off, but not sure which way to go with it.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  2 года назад +1

      Glide is OK and lower throttle OK, so might just be the way it flies. Could mix in a tiny bit of down elevator with throttle.

    • @BryonGaskin
      @BryonGaskin 2 года назад

      @@AndrewNewton Ended up needing about 2x as much down thrust than what called for in the manual. Now it flies great
      A couple of STL files and some longer screws would have been a nice touch.

    I frequently get accompanied by some local wedgetail eagles when I soar, I'd be interested to see what response I get from one of these..
    It may tilt the balance of power with the local pest birds anyway.
    Thanks for the inspiring post.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад

      Do they ever get aggressive? There is an inland sloping spot near here that is unflyable in nesting season due to wedge tails.

    • @alasdair4161
      @alasdair4161 5 лет назад +1

      @@AndrewNewton They do sometimes display what would be considered aggressive behaviour if I were a bird, they always approach from above and behind, and the first sign I'm not alone is just a shadow on the nosecone, I since realised that indicates they always come out of the sun from above, very smart, but once I'm aware they're there I never change my attitude, other than to put on some power to climb. I think in raptor law, whoever is above in altitude is supreme, and lazy climbing indicates lack of fear, versus diving away making you prey. I still get buzzed, but it seems playful as there are no talons out and they never contact. I've even given chase a few times, but they simply vanish, only to reappear unexpectedly sometime later. I may be experiencing different behaviour to nesting protection though. My neighbour watched once with binoculars and said an eagle which was bigger than my 2m wingspan Ranger followed me in a gradual circle (riding a thermal) for ages but was totally unknown to me the whole time, so I've had even more visits than I realise. It is an awesome experience, hangin' with my eagle friends... lol.

    Hello Andrew. I only fly planes in FPV, but now i wanted to train line of sight and i wanted a good slow-flier. So my questions are: is this a better flier than the skysurfer? and which of those is more resistant? The eagle is epp, but it doesn't seem to be a dense foam like some of sonicmodell's wings.
    Thank you, i watch almost all of your videos, i'm thinking about buying the reptile dragon for fpv for now. I loved that plane, and looks very serious and well made.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  5 лет назад

      Thanks. It's a shame there isn't any plane like this in a good EPP. I love the sturdiness in my Sky Hawk V2.
