  • On the latest episode of The Mets Pod presented by Tri-State Cadillac, Connor Rogers and Joe DeMayo welcome Mets two-way prospect Nolan McLean (aka Cowboy Ohtani) to the show to talk about moving towards the majors as both a pitcher and a hitter. Connor and Joe talk to McLean about the nickname they gave him, what is was like being drafted, the challenges of being a two-way player, his development so far at Double-A Binghamton, and a scouting report on his former Oklahoma State teammate Carson Benge, a potential 2024 Mets draft target. Later, the show looks back at London, an overall solid week that was for the Mets, plus the urgency to turn things around before the season becomes a sell-off. Connor and Joe also examine the situation at catcher with Francisco Alvarez coming back, the forthcoming return of Edwin Diaz, and recent moves made by David Stearns and Carlos Mendoza that may be on the margins, but are clearly sending messages for the future of the organization. Finally, the guys wrap things up with more Scoreboard predictions, and a dip into the Mailbag to answer questions about potential Pete Alonso trade returns, the Mets museum at Citi Field, and possible selections for the Mets with the 19th overall pick in the upcoming MLB Draft. Do you like the idea of the Mets trading off some players no matter how they perform the rest of the season? I believe that they should trade several starting pitchers and JD Martinez regardless. I think they could still compete with some of the young guys and move Marte to DH. Thanks guys keep up the great work.

Does it make sense to trade at deadline for very mediocre prospects? Won’t a really poor record scare off decent free agents? At the price of Juan Soto( who will be a Yankee anyway) we will get at least 2 very good players. Main question, unlike Aaron Judge, Pete Alonso hasn’t had a great pre free agent year, does that drop his free agent price , can’t see a 200 million plus offer from other teams.

Game 1 against the Marlins should put to bed any hopes of a Mets comeback. Let the teardown begin.

We could be destined for the NLCS this year and I would STILL trade all of these players. Nobody not named Alvarez or Scott should a part of the ruthless Stearns machine of the future. Wait until 2030. It'll be the last time we don't make the playoffs.

Alonso looks like he won't be on the team unless he lowers his contract demands. Also McNeil is likely gone before the end of the season.
