They are both real but the one that you think is a fake is the first generation trial knife. The changes were made to improve the knife for example the pommel would break off of the first gen ones. Also Gerber is really good about replacing any of the first gens with the new version, like the other one you have.
Not sure why you'd buy one BG knife, much less two, but that's besides the point. A less colorful coloration doesn't necessarily mean it's a "fake" or "counterfeit". Chinese products tend to have less quality control, which is why they're cheaper to begin with. This lack of quality control could very well be the cause of different colorations, even if the two knives were made in the same factory. That's just a quality control issue, not a counterfeit issue.
From what I found out from a few insiders, as you no bg knives are made in China, Gerber take their design and hire a Chinese contractor who will then source the factory to make them, after the fail of the first wave Gerber terminated the contract with their first contractors and went with someone else, however the factory chosen still have moulds and materials to make these! As for the land to air signal pocket guide and packaging this is sourced and made from a different contractor
The one you call fake is the one that is on the website for a national retail here in Canada. It may be an old photo they used from the first batch that came out
By the way that knife on the left IS the first production run. You can tell by the plastic on the pommel. Still, even the "fixed" version has the pommel only glued into the pommel, and the blade tang is pinned to the plastic handle. The "sharpener" is the thinnest possible coating of diamond dust. The steel they use is very soft, and the one I had rusted easily although it was supposed to be "stainless". About the only decent things in the whole package are the whistle and firesteel...
Actually both knives are fakes. The font for the gerber logo is not correct on both knives and sheaths and there is no production number on either one of the blades.
They are both Gerber, the ones made after the 2011 are the better ones after they fixed the pommel issue. The Bear Grylls knives aren't that nice in my opinion to make knock-offs!! There are way better survival knives out there, trust me!!! Plus the orange is so ugly on a knife, that's what you would give to a child in his first camping trip spending the night in the woods so he doesn't get lost!!!
The Chinese copyright laws are very confusing and from what I understand as long as the item isint an exact replica then it's not copyright, hence the smaller notch on the blade for the striker, different lettering etc as I said from my first comment, this is what I found out it could be total bull carp however the source is from a close Gerber UK insider
So what Fretfeeler is saying is that both are originals, but the one on the left is the first run? I just bought one and after sending to Gerber for repair, they told me it's a fake one. It looked just like the left one! I wish that they had told me how to spot a fake one.
The SRK, like many other knives has a 90 degrees stress point in the transition from the blade to the tang...the actual kraton handle is too soft and subject to wear off quickly! The laminated VG10 it's pretty hard, but not that much...the razor sharp edge doesn't last has i expacted and i found that a well treated 1095 is more capable...especially for the money!
The "other" knife is a fake, Gerber never gave the knife different serrations nor did they ever have to extend the fire striker it has always been the same size. Also The pouch has always been on the knife, carrying the survival guide is reasonable feature.
Yeah I have yet to own a ESEE but they look pretty well made, 1095 is some pretty tough stuff. I am starting to make my own knives, starting with 1095 and I will move up to D2 at some point. I have heard that the SRK can have handle problems when batoning in the past. Really with the Fallkivens? I have never heard they are bad with edge retention. If Anything I thought they had a rather hard edge, and that is why they are laminated.
I'd give all of you a guitar and you sing a song. the difference between both of these blades is that the one with the thicker orange line in the pommel is the second part of this model which was improved due to some users complained to gerber for the pommel in some knives went loose or fell down after hard use. So the factory improved it by making it full tang including the pommel feature that remained with the ultimate survival pro. but both of them are made in china the same, this is the real diference so if you don't like BG stuff fine! don't buy it but I have my own and I can tell for the ptrice is a very good blade.
I had both, the SRK is pretty good for the money but has a crappy handle material! I sold my Fallknivens F1 and A1 because the edge retention of the laminated VG10 didn't satisfied me at all...price considered! Need a mid-size survival knife? Buy an ESEE Laser Strike! If you need a longer blade, go with the 6 model! The 5 it's too thick and heavy, the 4 good only for a day hike!
The poor finish is a hallmark of fakes. Another big tip is the fake ones I have seen come in boxes, not the plastic bubble type container. What type of container did the one you suspect come in? Looking at the actual weave of the sheath material, it looks like that is different too.
Looking at the comments it looks like the usual group of 'elitists' who think that the only decent knife is any they like. They focus on the brand name rather than the actual tool.
Well I have an ultimate knife just like the fake and it is holding just fine, mine dose get some abuse and it is a working knife so if it's a fake they did a pretty good job making a knife
The fakes have a hard plastic pommel instead of metal if you put a magnet to it it should stick and I have had mine (real) for over a year and have beat the hell out of it and its still kicking I don't see why you would complain especially for the price
buy it from a reputable store in your area. Online, I suggest Amazon . com. Don't buy from Chinese web site stores that ships directly from China. Or you can order directly from gerbergear . com
The one with the thicker pummel is real the other is a Chinese counterfeit the pocket guide on the real one has a gray and slight color on the front and is thinner and made of plastic for waterproofing the Chinese one is paper and not waterproof and the knives on the front of the guide are dark black.
+Ed Glez I had to laugh when , these cats keep saying it's made in China so it's fake. these knives were made by gerber in china, lol. oh well , I got to go troll with some smarter folks.
Yeah I think the Cold Steel SRK could out last both of them and it is less then 2 of those. And if he were to spend the money he did on those two on 1 Falkniven then it would last a life time.
soft metal doesn't hold, the coating rubs off. As far as knives go, this is an expensive piece of junk, I'd get the Gerber LMF II, if I were to buy another Gerber. The crap you buy at Dick's Sporting goods isn't the same.
you're right. I forgot about that. They were basically the same in shape and size except there is slight difference in color and the older version doesn't have a crisp snap when you insert it to the holder.
+TruckerJDub Actually it's not. It's a good knife for the price. And it cost about $50. One can get a much better knife, f course, but pay several hundred up to thousand USD for it. It all depends what do you need the knife for and how much you gonna use it and for what purpose. Again, it's the great knife for the price.
John Arthurs It was a hyperbole, ok? And watch your language, please. I'm not your pal with whom you herd and graze sheep together, so please, behave yourself.

If you look carefully at the genuine Bear Grylls version on the hilt in small text it says "Fisher Price"
you did not check if there is sharpening stone at the sheath.
they both have the sharpening steel but they're pretty much the same.
Another possibility is also likely. In almost every manufacturing is the concept of factory 2nds.

There not crappy at all i have one it doesn't hold a razor edge for a long time but it stays fairly sharp
Actually both knives are fakes. The font for the gerber logo is not correct on both knives and sheaths and there is no production number on either one of the blades.
That’s what I was thinking too.
It is 2 different knife versions, the knife with a small orange part is the old, and that with more orange is the new.
but there are some details that are missing, like the signal diagram at the back of the sheath and the 2 metal pieces inside it.
They are both Gerber, the ones made after the 2011 are the better ones after they fixed the pommel issue. The Bear Grylls knives aren't that nice in my opinion to make knock-offs!! In holland you can only buy the fake one, with the thin orange line on the lowest part of the knife. Fml
ohh dan weet ik dat ik niet in nederland moet kopen :p
Idd gewoon op de officiële bear grylls site
The SRK, like many other knives has a 90 degrees stress point in the transition from the blade to the tang...the actual kraton handle is too soft and subject to wear off quickly! The laminated VG10 it's pretty hard, but not that much...the razor sharp edge doesn't last has i expacted and i found that a well treated 1095 is more capable...especially for the money!
but the knife original is at right or at left in pics of the video?
The one with the wistle rope though the pomel is the fake, from hong kong.
I also have both, well made even for a fake!
The "other" knife is a fake, Gerber never gave the knife different serrations nor did they ever have to extend the fire striker it has always been the same size. Also The pouch has always been on the knife, carrying the survival guide is reasonable feature.
Hey man! I bought one on amazon and realized it's fake it even came in a box instead of that plastic thing. What's your advice on what I should do?
Oh damn im so fuckin confuse...
the quality of the replica is its still acceptable?
Yeah I have yet to own a ESEE but they look pretty well made, 1095 is some pretty tough stuff. I am starting to make my own knives, starting with 1095 and I will move up to D2 at some point.
I have heard that the SRK can have handle problems when batoning in the past.
Really with the Fallkivens? I have never heard they are bad with edge retention. If Anything I thought they had a rather hard edge, and that is why they are laminated.
They both are not fake; the one with more plastic at the end is the improved version
i think one of them is fake.. i bought a fake one from china and it's exactly the same as in this video (the fake one)
Not a fake
Unfortunely, they said that that can't replaced it because it's not original.
Did you figure if it was a fake?
I'd give all of you a guitar and you sing a song. the difference between both of these blades is that the one with the thicker orange line in the pommel is the second part of this model which was improved due to some users complained to gerber for the pommel in some knives went loose or fell down after hard use. You're probably right
Did you pay the same amount? The material of the original sheet (tissue) is finer.
Where did you get the "fake" from
From wish
The poor finish is a hallmark of fakes. Another big tip is the fake ones I have seen come in boxes, not the plastic bubble type container. What type of container did the one you suspect come in? Looking at the actual weave of the sheath material, it looks like that is different too.
I think it's a fake of the older or first versions of the bear grylls knife
It's probably a different version or a different kind of bear grylls knife
I think the darker one is real and someone at the packing place made a mistake and sent the wrong ones
Looking at the comments it looks like the usual group of 'elitists' who think that the only decent knife is any they like. They focus on the brand name rather than the actual tool.
Why would anyone want to 'fake' a $30 knife?
Well I have an ultimate knife just like the fake and it is holding just fine, mine dose get some abuse and it is a working knife so if it's a fake they did a pretty good job making a knife
where i buy the original knife? i'm italian.
Or you can order directly from gerbergear . com
same knife but different batch-you got much time on your hands!
That doesn't matter about color and plus the bigger survival guide probably has the signals in them
I think its an older version of the knife because the orange part is thicker in the new one and thinner in the old one maybe you got ripped off
First clue if it's a counterfeit would be the price .. =)
Where did you get the fake from? Just so everyone knows who to not purchase gear from.
They are not fake. The first one you looked at is the first version
My fake one came with that survive thing on the back, but is once again color differance.
My fake book is like yours.
is the fake is the color
it is the smaller version
The one with the thicker pummel is real the other is a Chinese counterfeit the pocket guide on the real one has a gray and slight color on the front and is thinner and made of plastic for waterproofing the Chinese one is paper and not waterproof and the knives on the front of the guide are dark black.
both of them are made in China the same
+Ed Glez I had to laugh when , these cats keep saying it's made in China so it's fake. these knives were made by gerber in china, lol. oh well , I got to go troll with some smarter folks.
They are the same thing just one is old and one is new the old one is probably faded because of use
that eleven minutes i will never get back.
Yeah I think the Cold Steel SRK could out last both of them and it is less then 2 of those.
And if he were to spend the money he did on those two on 1 Falkniven then it would last a life time.
gerber makes a good knife, but i don't know about now.
It is the 1st version
The thin plastic piece knife is a fake there are tons of fakes if you look on ebay
It's not fake the redesigned it
No I did not buy them at the same time.
I would say get 1 and gen 2 knife
but why do you have two of those toys?
Did u buyem at the same time
i dont think that anyone made fake gerber knifes
Do u call older car fakes. Or imitations. Compared to a newer. One?
Oh Fuck my knife is fake
There is a countefeit in aliexpress with aus 8 steel. Does anyone have one of these? I want to know about ther quality (counterfit)
Buying one good knife isn't better than buying 2 BG knives?!
Look for the serial number
soft metal doesn't hold, the coating rubs off. As far as knives go, this is an expensive piece of junk, I'd get the Gerber LMF II, if I were to buy another Gerber. The crap you buy at Dick's Sporting goods isn't the same.
Errrrrr! It's not fake!!! It's just the original!!!
Thanks
this is her son he is not a fake
still don't mater both will break. shots fired
I hope they replaced yours
i got the fake one and i actually like it
soz i actually got a 1st edition knife cause every thing is the same as the real but my pomel is different
A slight difference of colour... it must be fake!
that's interesting
If you think it's a fake then I will be happy to take it off your hands....
great info
It doesn't fucking fake if it cuts the same
That is just the different manufacturers making the knife. The fake ones do not say Bear Grylls or Gerber on them.
What about the fire starter?
you're right. I forgot about that. They were basically the same in shape and size except there is slight difference in color and the older version doesn't have a crisp snap when you insert it to the holder.
I only really noticed due to the fact that it was missing in the fake ones sheath and thought there may have been a reason why.
thanks, man
I own both
Very Good
Cool
its not fake
Why can't you just buy a Bowie knife
These knives are just cheap toys. Take them out in the wild and watch them fall apart.
SimbaOS $1,000 for Bush knife, fuck off.
Share a link if you're not full of shit about the thousand dollar bush knife.

It was a hyperbole, ok? And watch your language, please. I'm not your pal with whom you herd and graze sheep together, so please, behave yourself.
Uh, even the real knife is a piece of shit, so.
Both version are shitty knifes, so what's the difference?
BEAR IS A FAKE LOOOOOSER!!!
The better one is probably the fake one.
all made in China your right
Fake or not they are both junk.
I like mine
