- I enjoy creating and sharing nature designs, but there’s often a perception that they’re always expensive. Although that’s the case in some instances, it’s not the norm for me. DIYing, working with what I have, and buying things on sale help me do things cost-effectively. In this one, I wanted to share how it’s possible to make a paludarium of all things with minimal materials, simple techniques, and stuff from my yard. Enjoy!

It was awesome being able to get outside again to collect materials and I think this one turned out great! Probably one of the best examples yet of what's possible simply using things found in the yard (or on the side of the road lol). What do you think? Let me know and have a great weekend SerpaSquad!
Looks like an awesome drinking buddy.
Hi! Thank you for this new video! I have been watching all your content these last weeks and I decided to build my first small aquarium! I bought the glass and silicone and built the tank, only to realise I used a silicone that contains a biocide 😢 I didn't want to take the chance and risk killing all the fish, so now I am scraping off all the silicone and doing it again with a safe product. Did something like this ever happened to you as a beginner? Also, how do you make sure not to introduce any toxic or dangerous substances in the water? Again thanks for all the free knowledge you are sharing with us, keep up the wonderful job! ❤
I find watching “waterfalls” in paludarium very relaxing. Years ago I created one for a friend in a 60 gal tall, custom built, “antique” Metaframe tank. He put in a few Spring Peepers, 2 Red Efts (which eventually became Eastern Newts) and a white Beta in the water section -which was much larger. Tiny ferns & micro-mini/miniature Sinningia added color & contributed to the sense of scale. Also called “Wood Violets” tiny Sinningia are a great plant for small-scale builds as they bloom and reseed constantly with no care. In the Gloxinia family there was a Sinningia Society in the Northeast at that time (I’m sure they still exist.)
As usual nice job👍🏻
great example of 'less is more'
Even I follow your techniques, it just doesn’t turn out as good as and as natural as yours. You must be observing the nature so well. 😊
Thanks for sharing this video. My wife of 36 years passed away 12 days ago and I'm lost still not finding my way. Your videos are peaceful.
Rest in piece 🫡
@@therandommemelord2009 Thank you
may she rest peacefully, Im wishing you the best
Huge hugs.
I wish you, your family and friends a lot of strength for these days 💔
"That ain't goin no where" killed me 😂
One of those "fine details" that keeps me coming back to these videos!
I laughed out loud 😂😂
I came here to say this 😂
Until the epic scene of Coach Serpa , I was 100% certain that Auto play had found a gem from the past . Probably due to the 2 gallon aquarium and honestly Tanner is a very young soul and a Visionary that truly CREATES!!!!
😂😂😂
I don’t know who’s more impressed, me or the deer 🦌
How deer you.🦌
One of my most favorite parts about your videos is showing the trial and error periods. It’s really encouraging for someone like me who tends to give up when things don’t turn out like I had planned. Great content 😊
You have some very cool millipedes in your backyard! Maybe you can make a video on the ''terrarium animals'' you can find there
I recon he should call them Bob!
@@TheRaptorRex that is the only right name for them
I second this!
I love your videos and i love bob
Oh Tanner, please do a LIVE build along! like Bob Ross! The Joy of SerpaDesign 🐸
projects like this are what keeps me coming back - massive flash 8ft tanks etc. have a wowo factor but the small things anyone could do always look great in your hands
Gonna be recommending this video to customers at work who are looking for inspiration on starting a paludarium!! This is genuinely a beautiful build, great great great work.
The "that ain't going nowhere" outfit and joke was so unexpected 🤣 had to give it a few replays. The scape came out great!
Other ppl have said it, but I love that he puts all his ideas in the video, especially the ones that didn't work as intended.
The little millipedes are so cute! One of my favorite animals you've added so far
I love watching your builds! I'd love to see more DIYs using minimal/manual tools and supplies that can mostly be found at a dollar store. Ideally a flower pot pond for a patio that can be stocked with fantail goldfish (that's what I want to make now I finally have outdoor an space) 😊
Imagination and Creativity = Priceless. 😎👍💯
"I just couldn't shake the feeling i was being wached,that's because I was "
😂😂
I really like seeing the waterfall. Your usual drips are cool, but seeing the water just fall down the rocks is lovely as well. Great build as usual 💚
Yes!! Finally a build with flowing water you can actually see flowing ❤
I agree! Not that the other ones l aren't pretty. But it is great to see a mini waterfall
I have a millipede that looks just like that,. Along with some tiny snails and a cute little slug. They came in with some of my plants 😊. I miss this part of living in Minnesota. Most of these are not available in my area of Arizona 😢, so I have to order. I love your projects, they are always so cool😊
The first video of yours I ever saw was the Free Terrarium build. This makes me feel a lot the same way - an inexpensive, accessible way to bring nature indoors. I'm so glad you shared this with us!
I love these kinds of videos where you build using a budget.
Lol the "the that ain't going nowhere" bit is the best. 😂
you inspired me the beginning of this year to make a terrarium. 4 months later its still going strong and it has a small centipede in it!
Really nice how much detail you're able to fit in such a tiny space.
I love taking rips and watching your vids
I really appreciate how much consideration you put into your builds for the animals' comfort and needs. Yes, it would be easier just to make it look good, but you go the extra mile to make it not just beautiful, but a true home for the critters.
Your the reason I’m creating my own crested gecko build, love the videos your an inspiration 😊
I've been following you for years. But i come back for the enunciation. ❤
Tanner your videos are so inspiring, thank you for introducing me to nature design. It’s become so positive for me and my self confidence I have so much fun creating and it’s all because of you! :)
Man your work is pure art 👌
Holy carp man! I bought 2 of these at $20ea 5 months ago and turned them into mini aquariums for rehab & inverts...cool to see you got the same tanks and turned them into paludariums! I'm upgrading the rehab fish of these tanks to a few 12 gal bowfronts that haven't been sold since the 90's and wasn't sure what to do with these tanks afterward...nice idea :)
love the appearance of SerpaDad. So proud
The zoom in on the deer cracked me TF up each time 🤣🤣🤣
You have inspired me to build my own cost efficient paludarium
I'm always amazed at what you're able to do. It's so inspiring.
To answer your question. I'm upgrading my hermit crabs' enclosure soon and some of the more advanced ideas I have, I've learned from you and a few other RUclipsrs. A small waterfall feature is one of the ideas I have. It will be for their freshwater pool.
Im so excited for the leafy street collab
as always. i love it. you bring some joy to my life. please more enclosed ecospheres
i love how you decorate all your tanks they all look so beautiful☘️
Honestly love seeing your local floral and fauna set ups you do! Hope you do more like these to give people ideas on scapes of their own!
The paludarium looks incredible. Keep up the good work!
Beautiful work as always Brother
I have a spare 20cm cube and might try something similar. Looks incredible.
This one looks great! I’ve gotten pretty into nature design, and your channel has been incredibly inspiring.
So cool! Wearing my Serpa hoodie right now as a matter of fact
Once again you've killed it. Amazing creation and awesome content.
Love the idea of easy builds like this for beginners. Your usual stuff is great, but it's way beyond my capacity.
What an incredible and inspiring build!
That looks amazing, would never have thought the plastic bag as a liner will work so well. I tried to make one carving foam, looked good but never as good as yours.
Ziploc Freezer Bag is another safe plastic option I use.
@@marikah6198good idea! I had just been wondering about it since I don't have the original packaging of a similar aquarium anymore. Your tip is very handy!
@@marikah6198btw, in addition to my other comment: would you cut open the bag? Seems logical to me, but I've never used it in such a way 😁
Best episode yet!!
1:58 that was great :D
Tanner, you are so fascinating! You keep on coming up with better ideas. That seam tape would be perfect for my blue tongue skink's enclosure.
I could just watch it for hours. What a joy to have in your house!
Tanners builds are always so awesome!
looks awesome as always. i know budget builds are your bread and butter, but someday i'd love to see you make the most expensive build possible. not something enormous, just medium sized and with super premium materials
Mmm something wonderful. Thank you for the inspiration
Very pretty! Really like your builds! I would totally put a couple small fish in there btw!
Another amazing build!
LOVE THESE TUTORIALS!!! This might be the first one I try. Keep up the good work ^_^
You should do a weather loach setup. Coolest aquarium fish ever
Youve inspired me to take up nature design! I'll be making my own terrariums soon while preparing to house my boa in a more natural enclosure, bioactive if i can make it!
Love this new style of video !!
Might be a good idea to do tutorials on how to make different equipment for tanks and palidariums for cheap. Stuff like lights and even tanks
He's done a tank building tutorial. Making your own lights is crazy 😂
Love it
“That aint going no where” 😃😃 That was hilarious and unexpected 😂
I love that you show your challenges threw your builds it helps learn even though things aren't perfect your can still achieve perfection by not giving up...thanks for your inspiration.
I followed your instructions in making my first forest terrarium and I love it so much. Maybe I should give this a try too.
"Mossing" is a great verb XD
So beautiful!! Thank you for sharing this amazing skill
Im making some more coffee and watching more vids from your channel 😂
G.O.A.T.!
Beautiful work. I know you enjoyed foraging for mosses in your yard and local area. I think moss is one of the wonders of the natural world. I've been enchanted by it since I was a little girl in NYC long ago. It will thrive, lush and green, from nothing but grit and powdered dog poop blown into a crack in the sidewalk, watered by rain.
This is probably one of my favorite videos and I’m so excited to try this with my 5 gallon marine land tank
Thank you for including the "that aint goin' nowhere ' clip 😂😂 so good
Those magic tapes fixes everything.
Really nice! I have a plan for something similar at a larger scale over the summer, but for this weekend it’s a small 2g submerged bowl and a smaller open top cylinder moss terrarium. Mine will NOT be as fantastic as yours, but I keep trying. 😊
love this one bob moss
I really enjoyed this video 😊 thanks again
@SerpaDesign, the way you play with nature is mesmerizing!
"That ain't going no where" with the dad outfit was perfect 😂😂😂😂
You definitely make it seem doable for anyone with any amout of experience. I like that!
great build. beautiful as always. you are a real inspiration.
This was such a dope video! These builds where you use local materials and animals are definitely my favorite!
Hey Serpa, I would love it if you could make a guide on how to make a drainage layer. Or if you already have a guide. Or even another creators video.
Love this.
Great build Tanner! Perfect for spring….
This is excellent Thank you so much serpa! I can't wait to replicate something like this. Even if it is just for some Zen in my room and growing some small hydrophilic plants with some isopods I think it would be amazing
I started a terrarium because of a cute little millipede. ❤ Thanks for this beautiful build and showing us the ups and downs of it. I’m thinking of redoing my paladarium (again). The soil keeps getting waterlogged even though it’s up above the water line. (False bottom with screen) I think this hobby is all about problem solving. lol. But it’s also so rewarding. God bless and have a great day.
So cool Tanner!
that cop skit was great lol love from utah serpa!
One of the best parts of my week, a new video from you
I wish I could find millipedes as easy as you!
Hey Tiana here's some interesting news for you I just found out that Josh's frogs are going to be carrying more than one species of Springtail that's right the laws are changing they're going to be able to carry some more tropical stuff and more temperate stuff than just the white spring teals so if you try to sing white little specs in your bavariums and terrariums and palladariums and bioactive animal enclosures you may now be able to get red ones and orange ones and brown ones and gray ones and that's from Josh's frogs in the next couple of months are going to be start introducing them along with even more isopods and the isopods they're going to have her in little almost like Delicup containers but they can last up to 8 to 12 weeks they said I would push fast 8 or 9 But at least they've got more varieties now and they're prepackaged so that all you have to do is just order them and they shift them out and they said there's usually more than what the count is plus babies so that's kind of cool that they're going to be able to do that for us people here in the US. that was funny even said oh there's people over there collecting isopods now like they're pokemon. so check it out when it comes out I would love to see a bio active enclosure with different kinds of Springtails and isopods then what's currently been up on the market just the white Springtails they're cute They're fun to watch they're easy to see at least but they kind of get pegged off quickly. especially if they're in with other animals you know frogs lizards god knows what else.
Huge fan & love the videos! With that being said living in Texas I want to SCREAM whenever you’re just grabbing moss from your backyard 🥲
Love the addition of the millipedes, on top of everything else. Always blowing minds brother, keep 'em coming.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing
Looks amazing
How gorgeous! Thanks for taking us on this journey
I could watch these forever
The colloquial dad scene had me wheezing 😂
I wish I had 1/4 of your craft, this is just beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Peace.
I like the cameo from the old man " that ain't going nowhere " your format is wonderful but throwing in some comedy like that never hurts!
