    Lenty; you did well, I think the problem was compounded; in other boxes they put 5 seed potatoes, plus they used sawdust, peatmoss, etc to make the soil more puffy, light and not too compacted, seeems that dirt is too heavy, well, this is my opinion just from watching the others videos. So go on, do not give up yet, try again until you find what works for you, and I love you all!

    Even putting too much dirt over ground grown potatoes doesn't work well. I have found that two eight inch hill ups are the best method followed by a few inches of leaves to keep weeds down and hold moisture. Too much and the plant keeps getting bigger but nothing forms underground.

    you cant just bury all the potato like that.. they wont grow.. you have to plant on the bottom and as they grow up, add more dirt and keep them covered ill it reaches the top. I grantee you the potatoes she planted, rotted.

      Yeah, I tried this 2 years ago --- what a waste of dirt -- this method pretty much made the seed potatoes disappear. I had no harvest at all. You should put them in , and gradually build up as they grow. I had no problems just throwing potatoes in the ground -- and they grew. As for this method -- you're right -- they rotted. It was very distressing...waiting all that time for something to grow.

      MIND CONTROL CENTRAL your method only works with indeterminate varieties. She is planting determinant variety that grows to a specific height then sets tubers. Bush type.

      it probably didn't work because the potatoes were buried so deep they never could reach the surface to begin their vegetative growth. You don't begin burying the plants until they are 5-6 inches tall

      +Katherine Atkinson But she did that...and it DIDN'T work.... If that was the reason it works, then why didn't it work? Because of watering? Really? She said "...water it really good..." a billion times during the video. Besides, if this method is so sensitive to water, then what happens if a good rainstorm hits? What if one doesn't hit? The worst part of the internet is having a self-proclaimed expert come up with an idea, passing that idea off as though it is expert advice and that they have been doing it that way for years with raving success, when the reality is that it has never even been tried. Meanwhile, that piece of crap idea being passed off as expert advice is still being propagated through the internet. She said she got the idea from pinterest? Did this unproven method start on Pinterest? Did it stop here? Hopefully, no one else tried this and wasted their valuable time and money. As of January 2016, there were 119k views. That's 119k misinformed viewers thanks to people like her, you, and snow violet, who should should post a vid showing his/her FABULOUS results using horse manure...

    There is no need to put down this video as some have suggested in the comments. This video is showing an unsuccessful attempt of replicating a method found on Pinterest. You suspect that it failed because of over watering.
    But please! Enough of your response "the reason it works is because the shoots grows toward the light" when it failed. You could say so when you have proof that it really does works. You shouldn't promote this method as a functional one based on pictures found on the internet.
    You have the potential of making great videos (pleasing to watch and learn from). But sharing information is not just an art. It has to be truthful.
    There is no need to put down this video as some have suggested in the comments. This video is showing an unsuccessful attempt of replicating a method found on Pinterest. You suspect that it failed because of over watering. This is how it should be labeled.
    Most will have the tendency to believe that it wouldn't work regardless of the over watering factor. Most will state that the shoots would still grow upward against gravity until it breaks out of the soil.
    The fascination over how a seed sprout is not a recent one. Many studies have been done on this. Modern technology has allowed us to know that it is an hormone (auxin) that controls plant orientation.
    Tests have shown that roots direction can be changed on some plants with the use of different light wavelength (color) Red lights pulling the roots toward the sky and blue reinforcing the downward growth.
    And nature has proven itself over and over to be fascinating and surprising. So this method is yet to be proven.
    If I was to attempt this method, I would concentrate on placing the potatoes closer to the side edge. I'm guessing that if roots can find the shortest path to water, it can probably do the same with shoots taking the shortest path to light. Witch that said, I wouldn't bother planting on the north side of the tower.
    I wouldn't use this method as it isn't really a high yielding method. Every single plants would produce it's normal yield at best conditions. For the same space, only 3 or 4 spuds are required and each spuds could produce from 2 to 4 times its normal yield. Yes, it does mean that you have to top it off with more growing medium as the plant grows, but overall, it would end up with about as much medium that you already put in.

  • @Jason-kg4rs
    @Jason-kg4rs 5 лет назад

    I guess a results video would be nice, as I don't really see this working very well. Why not do one planting then keep building it up as the plant grows? Also I'm guessing this whole thing got torn down and cleaned up after the video was shot, based on the random placement of it out in the middle of the lawn. There is so much B.S. on RUclips anymore.
