Business Spotlight: John Thistle from Newcastle Hearing Solutions
John Thistle is pleased to say that Newcastle Hearing Solutions is Newcastle's original audiology clinic. They have been serving Clarington and surrounding areas in terms of hearing tests, hearing aid fittings, follow up care, ear wax removal, and pretty well everything to do with the ears since 2011.
Most people who go to see John have some degree of concern: there's a spouse that has been making comments, maybe they have noticed a few situations themselves, or various other scenarios where they are having some difficulty, so they schedule a hearing test.
When they come into the office John will take a look in their ears to make sure their ears are clear, he does some pressure tests, and then he will do a complete evaluation in the sound booth. Once the test is completed, John goes through the results with the client and if there is a course of treatment that is recommended then they will go through that as well. Typically, it involves hearing aids, but certainly not in all scenarios. For example, you can have someone with a very mild hearing loss where it doesn't yet warrant hearing aids, but they're having difficulty with watching television so they can look at some wireless solutions to help.
John tries to stay away from the spousal jokes, but selective hearing is a subject that gets laughed about a lot but really, it is actually real thing! If you're watching television and then your spouse says something, you're not necessarily going to catch exactly what they've said - not because you're choosing not to listen to them, but your attention is diverted elsewhere.
Further to John having his business in Newcastle, he and his wife also raise their young family here and he is also very involved in the community. He says one of the great things about Newcastle is how involved everyone is and that's what makes the village such a special place.
