    The wire broke off an I can’t get the receiver out

    • @newcastlehearing

      That makes it really difficult Jim if the wire breaks where it comes out from the hearing aid. How I resolve that in the office is to carefully use a very sharp dental pick, dig it into the small bit of clear plastic that protrudes and quickly use leverage to pull it straight out. You have to be careful because the plastic can break apart leaving the two pins that act as connectors inside. You really only get one good chance of that working before it becomes a greater challenge. If it does break apart, it can still be salvaged by pulling those two pins out with tweezers. I would encourage you to return to the office you purchased the hearing aid from to have this done. If they suggest it has to be sent in then I encourage you to email me directly at john@newcastlehearing.ca and I would be happy to advise further. Good luck!

      Is it specifically a Widex hearing aid? As long as it is a Widex aid this will work, even if it’s the newer style of 2.0 receiver that they’re using. If it is a different brand then please do not use this method. Some brands have a locking pin or a tab that have to be removed before you can pull it out. If it is a Widex hearing aid, then you want to pull on it with a quick snap and not steady pressure pulling. It is quite possible that there could be corrosion built up on the inside from moisture that’s causing it to stick more than usual. Good luck!

    The wires break often. In six years we have replaced a dozen receiver wires at 100 dollars and now 150. The place we buy the hearing aids and Widex take no responsibility.

      I’m so sorry you’ve had that experience! Too bad you didn’t get them from us - we would have identified the reason why you’ve had so many troubles and you wouldn’t have been paying for the receivers. If you’ve burned through so many in that short period of time there’s a reason. Potentially you’re producing a vaporous type of earwax which can penetrate through the waxguard and cause a buildup within the receiver. That can be helped by using a hearing aid dryer like the Dry-Go UV or a Dry-Aid jar. Another option would be to use a small piece of foam packaging inside the receiver spout, underneath the wax guard. The foam would collect the moisture and be removed with tweezers once it becomes saturated and replaced with a new piece. Widex receivers stand up better than you’re reporting so I would investigate why it’s happening. If you’re not having any luck with your current provider, do not hesitate to get a second opinion. Good luck!

    The receiver works, but the wire is about to break at the main unit. They wanted $100 to fix. Any options?

    • @johnthistle8646
      @johnthistle8646 Год назад

      Unfortunately the receiver is attached to the wire and you cannot change one without changing them both. Widex used to separate the two because the wires tend to be the weak point, but they found that the extra contact point resulted in more frequent problems. It was about 10 years ago that they switched to the modular setup. The $100 that you were quoted is a pretty standard price for that part when out of warranty. That’s also what we charge - sorry.

      @@johnthistle8646 Is there a way to order the parts myself to save money? Do you do a cleaning for free?

    • @johnthistle8646
      @johnthistle8646 Год назад

      To order the part you have to go through a distributor. Widex (or any of the manufacturers for that matter) do not work directly with the end user, they work only with clinics. People who bought their aids from us do not pay additionally to have their aids cleaned, and if you drop in to have them cleaned we typically don’t charge. If the aid isn’t under warranty, there are expensive components that require replacing such as a receiver and you didn’t buy it from us then there would be a charge.

    How would you know if it is only the wire vs replacing the entire receiver? The costs really add up within a few years.

    • @newcastlehearing
      @newcastlehearing 3 года назад

      This video is for the “newer” style of Widex receiver which was released in approximately 2013. This one and the newest release which came out in 2020 both have the receiver attached to the wire. The original style (pre-2013) was in two pieces to reduce the cost but the added connection/contacts caused more frequent breakdowns and what Widex realized was that most clinicians were replacing both together and the costs were higher than it needed to be so the switched to the integrated system. Getting to your question, the only way to know for sure is trial and error - wire first and if not, receiver.

    Hi Dr! from the explanation above, that mean that bluetooth can be one of assistive technology for the hearing aid.isn't? then you keep mentioning that it is a great solution. But may i know in what 'great' you mean by that? I would be pleased if you could enlighten me by relating them with signal noise ratio/ noise reduction/ or something related to telephone conversation

    If you had to choose between the moment 330 or the paradise 70 what would you choose

    • @newcastlehearing
      @newcastlehearing 3 года назад

      The Paradise 70 launch was just this past Thursday here in Canada, and the actual product is being released tomorrow so I haven’t had the chance yet to handle one. The details on the Paradise look great, and Phonak has some big numbers that they are claiming with their noise reduction algorithm however I have yet to see any third party research to support their claims. Until I’ve worn them myself, I’m sticking with the Moment or Signia’s Xperience. There were some issues I found with Phonak’s last product, the Marvel.

      Moment all the way, the best high quality crystal sound hands down, but keep in mind you might won’t need specifically that type. YOUR audiogram and your ear anatomy will be the determining factor.

    Do you know where I can get a receiver for the right side of my Widex Beyond? The part # on the receiver is M2R.

    • @newcastlehearing
      @newcastlehearing 3 года назад

      Yes absolutely. You should be able to contact your original provider to get one, or if you’d like I would be happy to ship you one. Your device is likely out of warranty if it’s a Beyond instrument so there would be a $115 charge. Email me at john@newcastlehearing.ca if you’d like to arrange
