- In a bid to cut down on waste, The 1975 had the novel idea of recycling merchandise by printing new designs on unsold t-shirts and inviting fans to recycle their own at Reading and Leeds 2019 ahead of their headline set. NME went down to talk to the fans and see how it's done.

It's the textbook definition of practice what you preach
Yeah, but I'm still waiting for Matty to quit smoking...
And rest of the band too
The band and ratty out here saving the world 🕺🌎👀
ratty saving the earth 😌
Stefan K chill mate
@@stefanpedersen7006 i think spreading awareness about things to millions of people is the more efficient way than using all your net worth or money to change the world for better. Think about it for a minute and you will be able to understand it unless something's wrong up in your brain.
The guy from 0:26 has been in literally every video lmao
He is soooooo annoying
I think he’s a legend aw
DJF VLOGS omg he’s amazing wdym
every time he comes on he says a full essay so he covers 1/3 of the video
Obviously love this and how they are convincing more people to start being more conscious of their impact on the environment but you know probably half of these people getting this done flex how environmentally friendly they are on social media and then go to the mall to get a new outfit every week. Don’t support fast fashion and try posting you’re plastic/stainless steel reuse able straw
Didn’t you give this band the worst band award at your own music awards back in 2013 and now you think they are the best band on the planet. Wow, what’s changed?
There are fuck all decent bands around now and they need somebody to put on their front cover
they became relevent, then suddenly NME loved them
NME should be ashamed of themselves. Sold out years ago when they gave the magazine for free.
@@damonpeirce1728 nme sold out when they started putting fall out boy and panic at the disco on their front cover. It was the end of them.
The NME just go for clicks now and they have zero decent journalists. Literally just people who go on twitter and report on what pop group is popular
charli xcx track 10 in the back!!! TASTE
Every 1975 fan talking about any aspect of the band: nO bAnD hAs EvEr DoNe ThIs BeFoRe
LMAOOO where's the lie tho
Our names are similar and we said pretty much the same thing, are we related??
As a clothing brand. We have been making a lot on recycled shirts. Its cool to see a band as big as 1975 doing it. Props to them!!
If more artists use their platform to inspire people about sustainability and helping the planet, imagine the mass change of mindset in people. This is amazing, even more mad respect for The 1975.
I love you too much, God, the world needs more like them
why is nobody talking about the fact that it's 30£ and you don't even get a new shirt just a stamp
its free if you bring your own shirt!
KINGS, we need more people like them
I literally just ordered a tshirt as a gift for myself lol
Lux cool man
i’ve said this hundreds of times and i will say it again, god bless the 1975 🌎
this is amazing I love them so much I'm so proud
Your profile picture suits the comment😂

theyre so amazing as a band and as people who want a change
There are giving their fans an unique shirt and reducing waste. Very cool of them!!
so triggered that this wasnt at leeds but i still got one of the premade ones!!!
I'm seeing them November 24th!
Frank Ocean's merch booth at Lovebox 2017 already did this
ok
Sam Cooker cool
so is no one allowed to do it again? didn’t realise there were T-shirt rules lmao
@@rach2708 I think they were referring to that they stated that no other artist has done this in the video
@@rach2708 they commented it because almost everyone in the video told that "it's the first time someone did this"

this is bomb and cool as hell! a great way to be sustainable and capture memories
Great idea! Got one today! ❤️
i’m gonna cry i love them 🥺
Grow up.
I'M SO FUCKING PROUD OF HOW HARD I STAN THIS BAND YES
I wish I knew about this when I was there !!!
i found a tshirt from here at the thrift store today. i was so happy lmao
Bought a hoodie on their Asian tour in the Manila leg.
Not exactly sure if it was from a recycled hoodie, but the front print was really thick. So maybe yeah.
By the way, THE 1975 killed it, what a night. Amazing music as always!
One word: amazing
A band to be proud to support
This is so punk rock!
It really isnt
B T I think the comment was meant to be sarcastic
Matthew Corcoran we can only hope it was
@@rip6498 judging by the absolute state of this comments section Im not hopeful
i couldn't be more proud
I like the idea of recycling tshirt but imo it would be better if they use glow in the dark paint as well😂
THAT WOULD BE SO FUCKING COOL
Amazing
Is that Josh dewhurst doing the printing? Lmao
Such a good idea
Yasss Charli XCX I'm the background
30 quid for a tshirt
Matt Jameson not even for the t shirt just for the printing
Laurie printing was free if you bought your own
We areee fansssssssss
Do it in philippinessssss
£30 pound a T Shirt they making a lot of money.
💛
Everyone talking about how amazing the band are and they are making a difference and then it cuts to shot of shoddily printed tees being sold for £30. 😂
finjibuns bring your own and it was free tbf
WE STAN
I really love this but when will sustainability be for every social class? I hope that 30£ goes to a cause greater than them
Only new shirts are 30£ the print is actually for free :)
@@felixpenzi OH!! EVEN BETTER I love this band SO MUCH
they can do no wrong
🥾🌎
Still costs you as much as buying a T-shirt though 😂😂😂
TimmyTheSnail I think the printings free if you bring your own and the 30 quids only for a new one
Ellie R oh really?? Well that makes a lot morse sense! Damn that band just continues to impress me
I couldn’t be 100% sure but I’m almost certain it’s free printing, they’re a great influence and they make great music too :)
Yeah printing an old shirt is free :)
Where does the money go?
Into the 1975s pockets. They're heroes though, apparently.
GO TO THE PHILIPPINES!!!!!!!
don't u people think that 30 quid is too much for ink to be put on ur own t shirt... still love the idea but it just seems too pricey, should be 10 quid or less don't u think? thanks
chunky printing is free if you bring your own shirt! $30 is for their shirts
Reba Maxwell OHHHHHH okay that’s great then !
Frank Ocean did this already
0:25 definitely not a soy boy
Frank did it first
Frank Ocean did this in 2017 - nothing revolutionary here
Imagine missing the point that much....
Screen printing costs a lot of money guys. Stop fucking complaining
And they're donating so...👌
£30 though yikes!!
they donating
screenprinting can get quite pricy!! but hopefully the leftover money gets donated
naw the print is free its just if u want a brand new shirt with the print then its £30
@@1iveliest yeah i know but the supplies they need to print the shirts are pricey (i did a screenprinting course it can get expensive) so they might be doing it to cover the costs of the stuff (the screens, ink etc.) and then the rest of it would hopefully be going to charity
Printing is free. New shirts cost 30£ :)
this is so much british english for me...
FRANK OCEAN DID THIS WAY BEFORE the 1975
ok this is cool but what about the paint? i'm not sure it's environmentally friendly. i mean the glowing one especially
it still cost £30 though??? i love the 1975 but their shit is wayyyyy to expensive. this shouldn't have been more than a fiver, screen printing is hella cheap.
Frank Ocean did it first
How to make a T-shirt twice as worse as it already was
£30 to get some new of on a new tshirt, this is capitalism at its finest
it’s free if you bring your own shirt
DIY Punk bands have been doing this shit for decades. It isn't anything new.
Nowadays it's kind of new cause no other popular band like them do it or I think so.
pat hennessy It doesn’t matter with a world full of pollution right now, THIS IS HOW YOU USE YOUR PLATFORM
pat hennessy it’s new cause it’s not a DIY band. It’s cool that at least a small amount of the DIY philosophy enters the mainstream (even if it is this small)
Not saying it isn't a useful tool, just simply stating that its been done before, yet people act as if it's the latest thing, due to the popularity of the group. Music history man, have to remember the roots! Also, I very much enjoy the (once again) reusing of old Tshirts. I think I speak for most people when I say I have more shirts than days of the week. Kudos are given.
all gimps hahaha
I'm pretty sure they did it to save money not buying t shirts LOL
by giving away free prints? I don't see where they would make any profit out of that. They rather lose money not earning a margin by selling shirts.
Must be fun not being too bright eh?
They're using this 'gesture' as a promotion vehicle, it's not really free is it.
Oh man. Everybody in this video is like a bloody zombie, with all of the phrases and vapid nonsense. It’s like they could be espousing any political message if they just so happened to be alive when said message was popular. There’s no actual thought going on.
Chríss M why has everything got a political message its a message about reusing and looking after the planet get over yourself
At least they're doing something to help the planet shithead
They have a common opinion that what they're doing is saving material and helping the environment which is pretty objectively true, it's so sad that you, whilst mocking these young adults for being repetitive, just sound like every other contrarian you can find sitting in a starbucks.
@@tekkenchampion832 you've put it a lot better than I have dude
gay tekken champion 1991 thank you this is so true. Certain people from a certain generation are so eager to look down upon on us because they cant bare to take a bit of blame
This is a cool idea but my god I can't stand the 1975
why? I'm not a big fan but I'm curious
Why can you not stand them?
I don’t like their new stuff
oh my god-
