I think the idea with placebo is that he’s committed to pushing lvl 7 on 3-2 with birthday present. Not just getting more gold but getting it sooner was a priority. When he levels he makes 40 instead of 20 so it’s more like +12~15 gold rather than +8

This is definitely the reason, I had this exact spot earlier(3-2 placebo with BP) and it was correct to take. You end up not really losing much gold but more importantly you get to see what unit you get which can heavily dictate your carousel choice

The 2nd morde wasn't terrible given his lack of traits active, but the Jinx was pretty shit and griefed him into making a Shojin when he could've made something like Sterak + Shiv or Redemption + GS which would've been a lot better imo. Half of the other hits would've taken much better advantage of Bulky Buddies and would've meant he could prioritize items that better scale with his unit quality. With those other items slammed he could've picked up Sevikas to get Pit Fighter in with Vi and played around having a tanky melee carry comp with bulky buddies

Regarding the Bulky Buddies pick at 4-2, I think the rationale behind it is something like: we're playing fast 9 with melee carry items slammed on a Vi 2. Immediately, Coronation gives us less value than Bulky Buddies because we want to play into this Vi more. We're going 9 this round, so hitting a Rumble, Morde, Sevika or Jayce means we get 3 items + a strong combat augment to keep them alive. If not, we still have the itemized Vi which it is still good on. Then, past the immediate value, a fast 9 board means we're going to be playing a comp with very high unit quality, so the bulky buddies value is significantly higher. Coronation on a backliner would end up as FoN + Giant Slayer on whichever backliner we get, which honestly isn't that big of a spike compared to the immediate value of Bulky Buddies being effectively a 4th item on Vi + more tankiness for the rest of the team. Sure, the team slot is nice and will eventually outscale bulky buddies, but right now we're still struggling to fit the 9 slots we have.

@@TH-dg2mm that was just show how bad 4 5 cost is without their correct trait and comp built around them. Riot definitely fixed the shit out the power of high cost to balance the game so that u cannot getting free lp from hitting smt like random 5 cost 2 star lv8 and destroy the lobby

"Play a bunch of 5 costs" hasn't been a viable line in many sets now. Most of the unit strength is tied to traits
