Thank you for showing all the frustrating parts that inevitably show up when working on cars. All "car shows" I grew up watching on Saturday morning would just cut from a product plug on the workbench to the final clicks on the rachet. Working on cars is almost always a battle of will against siezed bolts and frustration.

I've dropped and redone both subframes on my E46 with nothing but jackstands. The bushings do tend to be a pain, especially since I didn't have a press. One trick is to cut the inner steel tube with a reciprocating saw. It'll collapse, reducing it's diameter, and taking pressure off the outside of the bushing and it'll slide out much mroe easily. When all else fails, blowtorch!

Ball Joint press is your friend, especially for something like a control arm that is awkward and heavy. In the shop the tech would leave something like that on the car (if possible) and remove one at a time. No cheap, but it is the right tool for the job.

Lol, if you buy the proper tools you can easily replace all the bushings in a day by yourself. I did it without the proper tools and a fractured finger, it just took me like a month. Also, if you guys googled it you'd realize you only need to remove the gas tank if you are welding in reinforcements for the subframe and rtab and even then it's not recommended.

To save anyone the hassle of 11:00-11:20, the trailing arm bushings are soloable. I've done them 2-3 times on different E36s, with the trailing arm still on the car no less (which is good because the RTABs [like the FCABs] are a regular wear item in the suspension). BimmerWorld, Turner and a few other vendors sell a version of tool, which is essentially a glorified puller. I later modified mine to insert new bushings for the rear subframe.

  • @-tr0n
    @-tr0n 6 лет назад

For anyone who is doing bushings without a press, the easiest way to get them out is to just cut the metal sleeve out with a hacksaw. Put the blade through the bushing (might have to cut/burn some rubber out to make room) and then install the handle onto the blade. Cut through the bushing sleeve to the control arm or subframe etc and then drive it out with a hammer.
