Gotta love the incomprehensible naming system of Ibanez guitars. 😆 I had a Roadstar II back in the 80's that I really, really miss. Purple with a rosewood fretboard. I really appreciate these projects you're taking on, it's interesting to follow them from "barn find" status and see what you do to clean them up.
@@CDNelson87 thanks brother! And yeah Ibanez... Names bring more associations than alpha numeric sequences. It's why when I saw that IYV jazz box I thought "Byrdland" rather than "ESxxx". Gax made me think Stimpy hacking a hairball 😄
@@TheRevDr I restored the original black finish. I put a Guitar Fetish Speed Loader trem in it. I got an original Floyd string retention bar. Lastly, I installed a humbucker that I had left over from a Harley Benton Explorer. I polished the frets and everything else. I have a photo album on Google Photos. It was pretty rough. I wasn't sure how it would come out. That guitar was delivered the same day my wife and I went out for the first time. I kept it all these years for that reason.
@@real_Pentagore that is so awesome! Sounds like a fun rebuild and a great piece of personal nostalgia for your collection. So cool! Thanks for sharing 🙏
sweeet guitar brother! i have a black ibanez GAX70 model(4 pot version)that i won from the goodwill auction for 51bux about a year ago.... swapped out the pups with a set of artec "59" model "chromebuckers" and love it even more now! for fun i put mismatched knobs like the greeny-moore LP has lol!
Awesome! I have a set of Johnny Eleca buffed stainless humbuckers coming that I plan to put in it, but I will definitely consider Artec for other projects. I have seen their products, are they part of Musiclily? Lots of solid budget gear out there. 🤜🤛
Thanks! I almost bought one many times and when I saw this one for such a low "get it out of my house" price I finally grabbed one. The fretboard is particularly impressive now that I have waxed it, really beautiful grain and coloration, amazing they put it in a budget guitar.
@@greyowl9295 hey brother 🤜🤛 yes electrically they are equivalent. The size has to do with the diameter of the brush inside the pot. Larger are generally considered better but in terms of wiring diagram yes they are equivalent
I'd like to thank Ibanez for putting the GiO on the headstock. Now, when I look at Ibanez guitars, I can say 'GiO? Geeee, No!' and move on. Just pick up an old Ibanez Roadstar and shred until the frets are dead!
@@moeval 😄 I was pleasantly surprised with this one and it has lots of play time on it from all the pick strikes so somebody loved it. Ibanez naming systems tho lol 😆
Nice look at the 23-year old Ibanez, RevDr. The restoration will be fun to document---looking forward to your next installment!
Thank you! Also was going to email you that I plan to get the prize pedal in the mail Monday and will send you the tracking for it.
@@TheRevDr Sounds good--Thanks so much!

What an awesome video. My first guitar was an Ibanez GAX70 I got in 06 or 07. Great guitar
@@SpeedbeetleV2 that's awesome! I was really impressed. I just cut a video this afternoon of the next stage of restoring it. Happy New Year!
Everyone I held had awesome flat necks!
Yes! It reminds me a lot of the thin wide PRS neck; this plays similar to my Santana SE, crunchier tones but similar feel body and neck.
Nice guitar. I have an old RG 340 that I recently restored. Great neck. I got it in 1989.
@@real_Pentagore thanks! And that is awesome, what finish/color? What did you do as part of your restoration?
