Not every town wants a shitty Starbucks. Small towns like it that way, small, and then people like you come in and want to change it and wonder why the locals don’t accept your city thinking.

There is nothing wrong with a bait shop or a cigar store. If you want a coffee shop, try L.A. they have a lot of them. Also, we prefer to use gas in our cars also.

Totally misleading. You have to know a town to know where to find things. The fast-food type coffee shops are to the South West on FoxCroft Avenue (at least 3 coffee shops, including Starbucks). The old town area has a classic diner on the left by the intersection, called the "Blue and White" where you said something like "memorial". That's actually a fountain where they put a huge Christmas tree in December. Tourists come from all over the DC area to visit that diner. It's like a time capsule and surely you can get some classic coffee there, to go. Yes there are drugs and crimes like every town in the world, but it's mostly extremely nice people of all types living in cool old houses, going to school, working, walking dogs, shopping. It's not a college town, with hot and cold running 20 year olds. You can go to the next town over for that .... Shepherdstown, WV.

I moved to this area 3 years ago, and I already want to move. Lots of drug overdoses, shootings, B&E's, suicides. It's a pretty sad town. Locals and long time residents will tell me to leave if I don't like it. Trust me, I hear you. I will.

I am glad you said that because I live in Ashburn VA and thought a round-trip to Martinsburg might be a great one-day excursion to enjoy the mountains and such. But as somebody from out-of-town, I don't want to risk riding my bicycle where I might get jumped or mugged just because I entered the wrong side of town without knowing it.

The thing is, I lived there 22 years ago, and that's NOTHING like it was, in the sense it looks like you're driving through an OK kept ghost town. We had coffee shops, and all sorts.. It was considered to be a suburb of D.C, I'm glad I got out when I did... lol! Because it looks completely dead compared to when I was a kid, teen, and young adult.. We had a massive shopping mall, as well. There were always people on the street, etc. 2:22 to your right, the library holds a lot of great memories.. They had the coolest children's library downstairs... I wonder if it's still the same. If you had gone left, you would have headed into some really historical buildings from the Civil War, there's always these little side streets that people don't explore. I didn't even know half of the things that were in my town were there until I was 16/17 years old, because there wasn't really much to do there as a teen, so we all walked around and explored. 2020 Martinsburg looks nothing like 1990s Martinsburg, it almost feels foreign to see. Though, because was so distracted by my thoughts, that I wasn't looking at the video fully, but once I did... The traumatic reasoning behind me leaving, yeah, I thought I was 100% over it, but clearly not... I started to feel just a little bit of anxiety as you passed familiar buildings, but that's helpful to me, because it just tells me I still have some things to work through. 🙂 Also, at the left @1:25, the brown and tan shopfront that has the glass covered in brown paper... My ex SIL owned a pagan shop there...lol! All those closed up shops had stores in them, it's so weird to see how dead it is now.. Cost of living though, cheeeeeeeeeeep, and it may, and I say may be worth living there if you don't mind commuting, as that's the only way you're really going to find a good job and live really well... I know rentals on family houses are in the 500 a month range... Which hasn't changed much since I lived Martinsburg in 1999. But, I hear a some areas that were nice have become high crime areas, so definitely do your research... I wonder if Fairfax Circle and Fairfax Street are still nice. Lots of memories of night-time bike riding and tin can ally, and catching fireflies and digging up salamanders from around the river bed of a river in the same area that's easy to find if you know where it is. 😁

This doesnt do justice, Martinsburg has many many restaurants, stores, shops, food trucks, banks, supercenters, bars, hospitals, & all of the areas outside of it, ranson, inwood, hedgesville, spring mills have been growing tremendously the last 2 years. And downtown Martinsburg has Amtrak and Marc trains to DC daily only 1.5 hours, basically same as driving.
