My lovely depot from 1999 for the next 20 years (apart from a 3yr sojourn back at Bournemouth). Wish I could have experienced the 50s. A few drivers went on to management positions because they couldn't face driving 159s after the locos. 03.34 - TC and Crompton. A driver told me that they were at Exeter one day and the Western shunter was going to uncouple the loco so it could run round. The driver said:- "Nah, it's alright, I'll drive from the other end", totally confusing the shunter.
Best place to see freight was from Churchill Way footbridge in those days. There was a good view of East yards exit and the bridge vibrated when 50s passed beneath.
47468 on a Cardiff service as they were a lot in last moths of those with class 33s and 5 Mk1 coaches. 50010 Monarch arrives from London. 47 with tank wagons in East Yard Reception. 47231 The Silcock Express moves another 47 out of the bay siding as 50016 Barham arrives from Exeter with a London Waterloo train & departs platform 2 at Salisbury. 4TC and a 33/1 pushes the stopper service to Waterloo out of platform 3 at Salisbury.

We had occasional Peaks too in the day.
Saved the best til last, loved the Crompton with the 4TC. Happy days.

Thank you! Cheers!

31s and 73s put in occasional appearances as well.
You can nearly smell them, used to love that smell they had, it was exciting, paraffin and vanilla almost
Busy busy Salisbury. Not sure why but NSE livery never appealed to me. Looked like giant advert for toothpaste, lol 🤣 👍👍👍👍
