Chrome Unboxed Im planning to buy my first Chromebook, but I am concerned a bit about how many tabs I can run without hickups AND how smooth the browsing is with no frame drops and stutterings...Consider these points with a good battery life, what is the best Chromebook in your opinion ?
I'm testing a samsung chromebook at this moment because I've sold my Nexus tab. In the future I'm certainly going to by a chromebook. Currently I'm using a 11 inch, so I think I'm going to try a 13 inch or greater and I think I should wait a couple months because the screens and processors are getting better. Is this correct? Thanks for the great reviews!
I have the Toshiba, and it seems to work quite well. In can't verify how streaming video works until I upgrade my WiFi, but I'd buy it again unless this Asus model looked better.
Jameel Rahhal From what I've seen, The ones you would approve of would be the i3 or any Haswell model. The K1 is advertised to outperform the haswells a tad, but I haven't seen any 3rd party evidence.
chromebooks are here to stay.. i think i will buy this one.....you do good reviews on chromebooks..sure a fancy desktop does more but 90 percent of users could get buy with something like this....i have an i7 desktop , apentium desktop , and a nexus 7, and a memo pad fhd 10..each one serves a purpose..
Can you upgrade the ram on the Acer C300, if so how many slots for ram are there. And do you know if the upcoming HP Chromebook 14 ram be upgraded. I am disappointed that you can't upgrade the ram on the new Acer 13'' Chromebook. Another great video by the way. Keep up the great work.
Great review, but you said that this is a step up from ARM processors, but the Samsung Chromebook 2 performs much better than this on sites like The Verge and streaming. It seems as though you are unfairly comparing this to older ARM processors. Most reviewers of the new Samsung Chromebook 2 agree that it's fast and loads most sites just fine, although not as fast as the Intel Celeron Chromebook. The only lag most reviewers saw was when more than 10 tabs were open. This Asus seems to struggle with just two tabs.
Samsung CB2 does do better than the old ARM CB's, but I still returned mine 2 days after buying it and am waiting for the Acer CB 13 in hopes that it will be awesome. It is better than the old ARMs, but mine was struggling with 3 tabs open (Google Music, facebook/twitter/instagram, and a third for general surfing) where my Acer C720 would handle it with no problem. New ARM still doesn't come close to Haswell, but I have hope for Nvidia's new processor.
Gavin Swick I'll have to take your word that that has been your experience with the Samsung Chromebook 2, but I've seen many reviews where people were using multiple tabs streaming music, video, g+ and documents, all at the same time, and THE Samsung CB 2 handled it. If you look at this channels review of Samsung CB 2, you'll see that it performed much better than this with the same websites, but yet, he tries to cut this Chromebook a break, by saying that it's slow, but, a BIG step up from ARM processors, which isn't reality given his own review of the Samsung CB 2.
thanks for the review. it was helpful. looking for this for my son (4th grade). the processor/graphics seems to lag a little, but I would think it should be okay for what he's doing (primarily google docs, some web stuff) - saw the 4gb RAM/32gb SSD for $229 at amazon and I'm thinking the extra RAM will help.
Had mine going on 4 yrs no issues ,except mouse pad I did some control things on the keyboard by accident and can't figure out how to get it back so have to use mouse now but other than that no issues, quiet, i can get my google documents from my phone and other computers, so handy and versatile. The speakers recently are distorted ever since I started playing from Grove 103.1 website, ever since then the speaker sounds are jacked up but everything else works fine for what i paid which was like 130 4 years this was a good deal. I'm not a gamer or anything like that, I just use this for business, email, social media, you tube etc, Don't get this if you're a gamer your speakers will blow or get an external speaker blue tooth which is what I use to use my speakers would have been ok had I kept using external speaker for groove 103.1 website since their music uses heavy bass sounds which messed up my speakers
I really enjoy your reviews. I own the Acer 720 4gb. Fantastic machine. Would love something with a 13" screen and similar battery life to my 720. Want to get something this month for the Google Drive 1TB offer. I use my chromebook for Google Apps for my company, other SaaS uses, as well as youtube, amazon etc. Do you recommend one machine in particular?
do you know if this chromebook alows dual boot? I want linux on it. (I mean, create a partition, and install a-side the chromeOs. ) I have a lot of guides about using a virtual machine like crouton for installing, but i want dual boot. Thanks for your time.
Well, I was interested in the c300 until I saw how much you were struggling with Google Docs. I want to upgrade my Samsung CB to use primarily as a writing machine. Love the simplicity and stability of Google Docs, but I need a CB that can handle super long documents (like 200-300 page manuscripts). Any advice on which CB out there would be best for running heavy Docs files? It seems the cheap $199 Acer model is still considered one of the fastest out there.
Scott Gibbs I have the blue version of the Asus C300 (the 2 GB RAM model), and can tell you that of the three months I've had the device, not ONCE have I ever struggled with opening any app or site on chrome, including Ad heavy links, Java heavy links, any chrome office app or streaming and opening files via cloud. Because it has no fan, its completely quiet, and because of the 2 GHz baytrail, its strong enough to get things going without pulling a muscle and overheating. I also have a Dell XPS 15", LED IPS QHD, i7 2.8 GHz, 16 GB RAM, 4 GB GT Nvidia GPU running Win 8.1, but when using chrome on the go, I still prefer working with the C300 simply because of its quiet, soft, simple, sufficient, elegant, battery-friendly build. Also, the mouse pad is smoother on the C300, and the keyboard is awesome/fast-type-friendly, so a big win for typing long documents. The biggest let down of this device, from my experience in 3 months, is the atrocious, dull, colourless display. But since all i do is banking, email, resumes-detail, document-development stuff for work, and NOT 4K gaming, protein rendering, NMR spectra stuff, at $250, this unit is BANG-for-BUCK.
Sam Akbarizadeh Good to know. Glad you've enjoyed the Asus. I eventually went with the Toshiba 2 and have to say it's pretty great. The display is amazing so if you decide you want something to watch videos on it's by far the best out there (besides the Pixel of course) and it's definitely faster than the Samsung.
Like he mentioned early in the review, Acer has a 13" chromebook that should be coming out in a couple weeks that should be awesome. I'm planning on getting that one.
I've had this computer for 5 months with no problems. Suddenly it's flashing a black screen. Tried power washing it and that only helped for about a week. Any thoughts? Anyone?

You don't understand chrome books! It is not an out of the box general computer. Everything you talked about can be modified by writing your own programs. It's made for people who like a tailored experience which they create for themselves. Not a force feed stock experience. one can do anything with a chrome book you or anyone else can do with windows or mac. This chrome book, ASUS which has the google experience in mind from the hardware standpoint, can be broken down into it constituent parts in less than 45 minutes. There is way more to a chrome book than watching videos and writing letters.

ASUS C300 review is posted and ready for consumption! Acer i3 and a VS video soon to follow!

I had this for about a week, I was very under impressed. Had a feeling I wouldn't be keeping it.
I just ran the program and i got a 7697, and I have had my Asus for several months

Why are the keys in lower case?

Buenas tardes. La pila de mi Asus se hincho. Se las puedo quitar para trabajar solo con la electricidad?
the best buy version, C300MA-BBCLN10, says it's IPS. can't seem to verify it though. have you checked that specific model out?
How does one install windows on this.
I have this laptop the only thing that I hate is that it seems like I can't rename videos
Good job , thanks
Great video! Can you post the complete product name please ? Is this one equipped with the Intel Celeron N2830 ?
ASUS Chromebook C300MA-DB01, 13.3-Inch and Yes i believe it has that processor.
Do you use a Chromebook as your everyday computer and if you do...what do you use for video editing?
i watched both videos, but wich do you think its better perfomance/screen/keyboard/mouse between toshiba chromebook 2 or asus c300?
I found this for £300 /$350 with a nexus 7 bundled with it. Is this deal worth it?
What *is* your work? I'm a sw dev, and I worked from a Raspi for a week, so I'm considering this book.
Good for the price.

7:44 you can upgrade it to 4gb max but it comes with 2gb
also how easy/hard is it to get into the c300 to upgrade ram?

That and the HP 14 I guess

any body know how to save pictures from app and how to do refresh
I have a question! I'm undecided, I don't know if I should buy the Asus C300 or Toshiba Chromebook? Which is better? Thanks
Like he mentioned early in the review, Acer has a 13" chromebook that should be coming out in a couple weeks that should be awesome. I'm planning on getting that one.
Gavin Swick Yeah, but I'm from Canada and I'm not sure they will ship the Acer 13" to my country! :/ (On Amazon.com)
Toshiba Chromebook!
would anyone be able to advise me on what the best model chromebook i should use for deepin os?
Did you boost the processor to 2.4 GHz?
would this be a decent laptop to play games on and I'm talking about downloadable games
+Chase Hickman NO
Have you tried the c200 with 4GB ram?
I've had this computer for 5 months with no problems. Suddenly it's flashing a black screen. Tried power washing it and that only helped for about a week. Any thoughts? Anyone?
Late reply, but I hope you used the warranty to fix that. I have the same model that did that.
Nah, i ditched it and went with HP Chromebook. Much better quality and no problems now a year later.

i have a chromebook asus c300 how do u play games on steam
I'm asking the same thing
steven gill Steam is not available on ChromeOS as far as I know. You can install Linux (Clean format via usb/disk) and install Linux version of Steam or install Wine then install the Windows version of Steam.
flash hard drive = high sperm count/zero radiation = pisses over all ssd laptops
If they made it with a Celeron and 4GB, then it'll be like my awful Dell Inspiron 15 from a couple of years ago.
can you download games on a chrome book?
+Noel Simmons From Chrome's store. If you play on Steam you will need to install Ubuntu
okay think you very much.
+Mr.DeadCardGamer it'll run steam games? like really? lol this thing doesn't even have a dedicated video card why install steam?
+Jonathan Pontel It's just an option if you don't like it then don't install it.
Mr.DeadCardGamer I know it's an option I'm just saying why install something that won't work properly with these specs??? That's my point
way too verbose
