    I used to hate the fact that I was born and raised in Las Vegas because of other peoples preconceived notions about this town but the golden knights have brought this community together in such a way that I couldn't be more proud of my hometown.
    P.S. I'm not a bandwagon hockey fan. Ive been a fan since I went to my first las vegas wranglers (echl) game and have been a long time bruins fan.

    • @LitjFoxn
      @LitjFoxn  6 лет назад +3

      This is awesome to read! I was curious how the locals would welcome the Golden Knights to be honest. Of course it helps in a general basis that the team is performing as well as they do though. Not sure what the situation would have been if they had performed as bad as many thought they would?
      And the best thing about VGK in my eyes? Seeing you turn from Bruins to VGK. The world needs less Bruins-fans ;) haha. Just kidding of course, kind of ;)

      I moved to Vegas in 2008 from Buffalo, NY, born and raised blue and gold. I was very skeptical of the team out here because we have a lot of transients from all over the US and Canada, as well as the world living here. Everyone has an established team as a hockey fan, myself included. I remember sitting at the draft/NHL Award show last summer seeing the unveiling of the jersey, team name, and hearing the roster of players we picked up in the draft and my friends and I were like, Oh.Shit. We all thought we were going to be the laughing stock of the NHL. These guys, were not NHL superstars (with the exception of Fleury), they were guys let go by their teams because either they were not producing, or they didn't mesh with the style of hockey their team set forth. When the Oct 1 tragedy struck our town, we felt empty, shocked, and suffered a severe loss. These guys picked us all back up and I think that was the defining moment for this team. The locals really put all their time and energy behind them because of how much support they gave the community in the wake of tragedy, they stood behind us. Hockey fans are like a big family, as evidenced by the support for the Humboldt Broncos tragedy. Despite having our born and raised teams in our blood, who we will cheer for when they come to town to play the Golden Knights, we will always support this team! Everyone keeps saying we're bandwagon fans, but my question is how can you be a bandwagon fan when your team is a new team in the league? We have supported this team since the first pre-season game. Even if they don't make it to the Stanley Cup finals this year, or next, or whenever, we'll always be proud and supportive of their accomplishments this first season. GO KNIGHTS GO! #VegasStrong

    • @amberlarsen8755
      @amberlarsen8755 6 лет назад +2

      Heather King i couldn't agree more. We supported this team before we even had a single player. At the draft, all i could think was "will these guys from all over the league be able to build the chemistry that other teams have had for years?" This team really helped me and a lot of others heal from oct 1 and thats why this community really came together to support this team. I was afraid this team wouldnt generate a real fanbase since las vegas is filled woth people from so many other places. I think thats why the haters are ao mad. They said we wouldnt have any fans and now, their inaugural season isnt even over yet, and everyone is a bandwagon fan. It really doesnt make sense. But reguardless, i love this team. Go knights go!

    How about Deryk Engelland? He went from being an enforcer to a 20 + minute a night defenseman in the matter of one offseason. Career highs in points too. I don't know if I've ever seen such a drastic change in a player.

    • @LitjFoxn
      @LitjFoxn  6 лет назад +14

      I know, right?! He also fought hard all his life to even get to the NHL. His wife carried two (if not three) jobs just to help him reach his goal. Got his debut in the NHL at age 27 and got that great contract with Calgary 5 years later. Such a sunshine story in the end. And he is such a great guy! I actually don't think this video reflects how down to earth and humble that man is. Always putting everyone elses needs before his own.

    • @redomega24
      @redomega24 6 лет назад +2

      Thats what is amazing about the NHL... a lof of these guys just make it fitting roles... Engelland probably grew up scoring goals or being the better skater than most guys he just happened to be genetically strong so that helped him get there.

    As an NHL fan of nearly 40 years, and former longtime LA Kings fan from the purple and gold days, I never thought I'd see anything top the playoff game I attended that became known as "The Miracle On Manchester", when the Kings were down 5 - 0 after 2 periods to a young Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers, but came back to win 6 -5 in OT.That VGK inaugural pregame ceremony was one of the most powerfully emotional experiences I'd ever witnessed, especially those 58 seconds of silence, where the only movement that could be seen was the clock on the jumbotron working up to number 58. Between then and the dropping of the puck moments later, I don't believe there was a dry eye in the house, and after such an emotionally somber moment, I remember thinking "How are these guys now going to rise to the level of energy needed to compete in an NHL game?" Well they answered that call with 4 unanswered goals only halfway through the first period. That swing set the tone for what would become one of the greatest stories in sports history....and as a Vegas resident of the past 20 years (who was thrilled just to get a pro sports team), I am so proud of this team and organization for the tremendous accomplishments they achieved both on and off the ice, and extremely lucky to have experienced it from the start.
    GO KNIGHTS GO!!!!!!

    I bet the Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes and the Florida Panthers are jealous of the Vegas Golden Knights success, thanks to their ownership bringing in quality hockey minds in the front office and on the bench, but also pillars with experience in Marc-Andre Fleury and James Neal.

    This is why, the players who left VGK still have ties with Vegas. We love them and players love us back and the city! Reeves and Schmidt still comes heres to play baseball with Raiders; a fundraising for the children of Las Vegas annually. Fleury said recenly in an interview after retirement he wants to build a house in Vegas and will call Vegas his second home. Karlsson already wants to retire here and already bought a house, got married here in the LV Valley! Love these guys!❤ 💛

    Born in Philly and still living there when the Flyers won their first Cup, I know what it's like to be an enthusiastic hockey fan. My aunt and I, by the way, were the only "spots" in the stands! Now, after living in Vegas for over 25 years, I was a Knights fan IMMEDIATELY but didn't get to a game until this, the second season. Becoming a Knights fanatic after attending a game was the easiest thing I've ever done. I just have to work on shedding some of my Philly fan habits...

    I'm REALLY big fan of Golden Knights story. I'm always rooting for the underdog, so when take a punch of worlds greatest hockey players that no other team would want and everyone is telling that they won't do shit, this is what you get. They have said it many times themselfs that they love to show haters wrong. I am really hoping for them to win the Cup this year and I hope that my idol Haula scores in the last game. This is what the NHL is all about. Making some big dreams come true.

    As a traditional hockey fan I so want to not like this team. I tell myself that their fan base hasn't suffered (in the hockey sense) or earned the right to have a Stanley Cup. I tell myself this will be another failed attempt to popularize the sport in an area of the country that has no love for the game. But then you hear the stories, you see the fans, you see the passion down there. It's impossible to not like them. Go Oilers. #VegasStrong

      From what I have seen, the community really rallies around the Knights (I'm also a Knights fan, but living outside of Las Vegas -- we plan to move there in two years, so I wanted to be aboard from Day One and watched 77 regular season games, even traveled to Vegas to see 2 in person!). They have meant a ton to the people of Las Vegas, I know from my two aunts and two uncles who live in Vegas as well. I think they will continue to receive fan support, win or lose, because of their incredible start and because these are memories people hold onto for a lifetime. It has also introduced so many people to hockey who now absolutely love the sport. I know it's probably NOT that fun for teams losing to Vegas, but in a general sense I think it WILL be fun for other fan bases to be able to travel to Vegas during the season and make their trip coincidence with their own team playing the Knights. Like a fun hockey / Vegas trip, what's not to love there? Hehe.

      For sure! We are pretty set on Summerlin, I mean my family there lives in Henderson and they enjoy it and all, but I want to be near City National, I enjoy how affluent Summerlin is, and it's a bit cooler during the summers, and I love the master planned community approach. We're looking at a new development (Nova Ridge) and our budget is just over $1M so to me, Summerlin seems the right fit. I think we should look at Macdonald Highlands and at least give a chance to some of the nicer areas of Henderson, but honestly I love so much about Summerlin that I think, for us, it's probably the right decision.

    The entire team was under a microscope after 1October! They couldn't get DUI's, or sexual assaults or do anything off the ice that would bring the team down! They did that! #VegasStrong!

    I wish the team adds the "Las" in Las Vegas. To me as someone who grew up in Las Vegas, saying "vegas" sound cheap and touristy.

      Las Vegas Golden Knights
      Vs
      Vegas Golden Knights
      Four words not an intelligent marketing move. Las Vegas is an intl city and people around the world use the term Vegas. Their fan base is broad, all over the world.
      Four words too long!

    The NHL and professional hockey fans should be embarrassed by all of this. It blows up every myth we've been fed all these years by the so-called hockey experts. A first year team of castoffs and a fired coach go to the Stanley Cup finals. Think about all the crap you've heard all these years about how to create a winning team. Think about all the Vegas players, now stars, who were nothing under their supposed expert previous owners, managers and coaches. The draft, the rebuilding, the trades, the high price coaches, the rookie stars of tomorrow, etc, etc - It is all a lot of BS..

    I know the Raiders aren't an expansion team but I hope they get the same treatment from y'all Vegas citizens! As players looking at those fans they'd think who wouldn't wanna play for such fans?
