Ali zafar is most talented Pakistan singer not even just Pakistan, you won't find any singer in Asia who is capable enough of his qualities. The dude can sing all different genres of songs.. Sufi, rock, pop, traditional, jazz and what not... Apart from that he is actor, painter, model, composer, lyricst, producer...a true gem!

Coke Studio is known for doing "fusion music" where they combine western and traditional Pakistani music. That transition bit is just a prime example of that. Even in the song, he's trying to be all cool but that part is just to sort of emphasize that he's still very much local/desi.
If I'm not wrong Ali here has a degree in music!?? He is a 'rockstar' fo sho! ;)

Not in music, he has a bachelors in Painting from National College of Arts. Apart from that, he's an actor, writer, poet, composer, singer and lyricist.
@@cwehden He was a painter at Pearl Continent hotel first. He has a degree in Arts from NCA but I don't think NCA has a bachelor's program in music.

Ali Zafar wrote and composed this himself. The silly lyrics are supposed to be a sort of parody of Rockstars who take themselves too seriously. You should also check out Julie on Coke studio. This is Pakistani pop bro. This ain't Indian. Pakistani pop foundation was laid by Nazia and Zohaib in early 80s. It is one of the best in Asia

Classical singing training in India and Pakistani is so so much more than texture, tonality and character of voice - it's about mastering 2-3 octaves of vocal range training in scales (such as Cmaj/Emaj) and also learning/studying traditional songs and patterns (called 'riyaz') which makes these singers do the magic thay they do. I love western music. But, eastern music downright intimidates me. But then again, music is music and it's a win whichever you practice/preach/indulge in \m/. Loved the reaction - your voice in lower registers is gold!

Ali used to sing Pink Floyd alot during his college days in a band. This diverse tonal quality he has is a result of that + the traditional songs he used to listen and started singing being from this side of the world.

I've been following your videos for quite some time now. Erm. Indian and Pakistani music traditionally rely on more of skill. Transitions / notes and theory. Theory mostly and then grinding your skills to reach those notes perfectly... Lesser emphasis on vocal quality and expressions...
It's been recent that we've started playing around with different vocal techniques and in general, the vibes.
Maybe around 10 years. The music industry here is actually driven by movies. So an artist does not have much room to express or play around with their skills.
Things like coke studio and nescafe basement are the ones that initially started to make music centric music. Lol. I mean a shift from movie centric music to this.
Um I'd suggest try out 'Amit Trivedi's Sound of nation'. The acapella group is doing an amazing job. It does not have a lot of vocal modulation but the versatility and expression is amazing. It has a peppy groove and gives out a happy vibe. Amit has been making some great music too. He does not use a lot of range but always tries to put in a little bit of modulation and expression...

Ali Zafar has quite a different tone. I'll give you that.. Quite nice :) Do checkout his performance with Natasha Khan called Yo Soch. It's in Coke Studio Season 10 if I'm not wrong.

Have you ever been in his concert. I thought exactly the same as you but I got the chance to attend his concert and he was so damn disappointing that I can't even tell you! I too thought because of Sayonee he was all that but he was literally shit and the concert and crowd's reaction to it was so cold that he stopped after only 4 songs as nobody was even cheering by the end of it.
