    We need a rack mount SDI-HDMI converter with heaps of ins & outs to replace needing a bunch of mini converters. I want to be able to bring a mix of SDI & HDMI sources in or out of whichever switcher I'm using.

    100% agree with your list!
    SRT, 4k (at least for their higher end options), a proper Decklink solution, updated comm's / fibre link solution, 4k scopes, ISO 4k rack recording, better routing for audio and an updated media pool would be ideal.
    Better camera options would be ideal to work with their switchers too.

    Agreed on all points. I bet removing the screen on the studios or BMPCC would reduce a significant bit of cost. I'd also love a 4k Atem mini

    Cool video thanks for sharing ! I agree with 90% of what you said, impressive how you are so on the edge of that tech . Would add a rackable bidirectionnal 8x8 SDI / HDMI converter. The constellation update.... YES, waiting too ! Hope that will come. I don't really believe in long distance 10G POE+++ ethernet workflow though (i.e above 50 feet ) . Not reliable enough, we had to sell a few Studio converters because if you have any electrical cables in proximity of the ethernet cables or any kind of EMI --> dropouts. It worked properly only 85-90 % of the time I would say. And we use shielded high quality cables !

    Besides the obvious need to update the 4K switcher line, I'd love to be able to route audio into different aux outputs of a switcher. Having mutiple remote guests gives me quite a problem when it comes to audio, since I don't want any of them to hear their delayed selves, but each of them needs to hear the rest of the people, and I need to be able to speak to them even when we're not live. Today that means I have to have an external audio mixer, and since I was stupid and cheap enough to only get the Behringer XR12 instead of the XR18, I still have a bit of a problem. So I'd love to be able to freely choose which audio sources go with which video in each aux output of a switcher.
    And how about a rack mount converter unit? Even though BMD says that people don't really need both HDMI and SDI, I think a rack mount converter with either eight SDI in and eight HDMI out, or eight HDMI in and eight SDI out would be really helpful. Or half of each, or maybe modules of two, so you could combine them to your own liking - instead of spreading a bunch of loose micro converters inside the rack case.
    I would also love to have a dedicated remote guest unit, which would be able to hook up to another unit somewhere else, and have a two-way audio and video communication. Like a bidirectional Streaming Bridge! Maybe with an extra audio channel with a 3,5 mm jack for off the air communication. The new cameras seem to be a step in that direction, but for those of us who already have the camera and just want the signal exchange, this would be great!

    what I want to see is a complete revamp of the modular routers, 12G everything, and offer a multiview option card

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  Год назад +1

      that would be nice, but modular does typically add a bunch of cost.... but yes options of a 80x80 standard or modular would be great!

    • @AmauryJacquot
      @AmauryJacquot Год назад +1

      @@RyanSomerfield am saying this because the smaller modular is a 72x72 which is in that 80x80 range.
      when you start having these sizes, you want to be able to mix and match i/o types, you could have coax SDI, fiber SDI, thunderbolt, multiview, (...) cards, and it's better for maintenance (just swap out the broken card(s))

      @@RyanSomerfield I wanted to add the idea of having MADI, Dante built-in to such a big matrix router is also brilliant, and would free up some of that from the sound desk (simple re-route/re-patch of those channels).

    Hi Ryan!
    Great List!
    Especially: Iso Recording on Constellation - it can be solved with Hyperdecks - but I want the DaVinci File for Post!
    A 4K switcher just beyond the Constellation 8K. A 20 Inputs / 12 Output Constellation 4K would be great! The actual Gap is to big in my opinion.
    Audio: agree in all points, plus: XLR analog in. 1/4 Jack is a fault
    Hyperdecks: Add Clip Play to all Hyperdecks. Why does the Minis have Clip Play and all the other ones not?? I'm sick of add a Streamdeck or a Advanced Panel to have Single Clip Play on a Hyperdeck Pro (!!)
    Save and hold the Media Pool on Constellation after Power Cycle. That's a mess!
    I generally don't understand, why the put really grate features of the small ATEM Line (Mini, Mini Pro, Mini Iso) not in the constellation Line (ISO Recording - up to 8 selectable Inputs or something, or in conjunction with theHyperdecks and save the DaVinci File on the Constellation - and the permanent Media Pool!

    i feel like a lotta engineers get too caught up in a BMD echochamber. if you are getting like studio or truck size budgets, BMD shouldn't be the go to. there is a multitude of companies ijn the space and its crazy to ask for gear from BMD that already exists. hoping to be at NAB this year we'll see.

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  Год назад +3

      thats fair, but in with the price point it really enables some pretty cool stuff on a budget! and the ecosystem does work pretty nicely, not perfect by any means.. but cool for what it does

    • @benchxwychua443
      @benchxwychua443 Год назад

      @@RyanSomerfield my biggest wish for BMD is to look outside at what other companies are doing and find a way to be compatible. they are (intensionally or unintentionally) making their system exclusive and making integration a problem for bigger venues and companies
