11:56 actually its the other way around, Protogen as in prototype. also its pronounced Primagens, like prime, the Premagens are the ones who made the protos and primes
I vibe with protogens because it could be easier to make one short circuit, which is like having an epileptic seizure and is more understandable to a lot of people than epilepsy, which I have. Along with a lot of other neurodivergence and being nonbinary I feel like they can be naturally just removed enough from social cues and the natural environment that they just fit right. And the thought of them technically being illegal to make in any way makes my brain go "be gay, do crime" and that gives me extra dopamine.
Yay! I'm glad snakes were mentioned under the scaly section. I've had my cobra sona since 2015. There are a good few of us now. But still not too common in the grand scheme of furries. Also bug-sona's rule. Bring me the bug-girls please
the original definition of Anthropomorphic actually was used to describe when writers give human traits to god. Such as when you give him a human expression of emotion. So, just know that furrys have taken another word from god himself!
Sand this to a furry hater and see their reaction and ask them again why they hate Furries Also there is now way an actual teacher is talking about random fandoms
I also think that he swapped the facts for the primagen and protogens The protogens are open for anybody to make, primagens only come from malice, and can only be bought
10:55 That protogen like similar like a fan-depiction of a Venlil that have cybernatic body parts. Venlil is an alien species from the novel The Nature of Predators.
A lot of good info here, wasn't entirely accurate on the Protogen info but that's ok. There are many many more types of species out there to look into. Interested in future videos of the fandom.
Just pointing out that closed species and auctions have no ground based on copyright laws. It's really just a courtesy thing. Here's a bit more detail: copyright does not apply to ideas, but to the representation of an idea. For example, I cannot legally reproduce, let's say, Pikachu, but I can make up a yellow mouse that shoots lightning. Depending on how close I try my luck I just might get Nintendo's legal assassins team on me, and depending on how close it is, they may be justified and could be found to be right in a court of law. That is also why they are aggressive to their IP and when it does get to court, they generally try to settle, because if they were to be judged against, it would then create a precedent that would allow anyone to freely use things closely ressembling their IP. Do take note that copyright laws can and most likely will differ from country to country.
Another closed-species type is the Acrador race. That's made by a guy called MindMachine. Dude has some crazy lore and backs it with about 10 years of writing but the price to entry is just absured imo. 700-1200 bucks to get a reference sheet made of the Acrador character THEN on top of that, if you have the character commissioned by anyone else, you CANNOT change a single detail about the character as it "has to fit in the Acrador universe". Essentially speaking, you pay 700-1200 bucks for a character that is still majoritively owned by the species creator. I think it's dumb
i hope there will be a way for people to see the part where you showed their fursona's live. my boyfriend's fursona got shown that night and he wasn't able to see it cuz he was at work. :c
I'd argue that anthropomorphism isn't just things with human traits, but it is also an innately human quality to have in and of itself. Humans have been taking nonhuman things and turning them into people literally since culture first came into existence, we're talking prehistory concepts. Like long long long before the furry gods of Egypt, and all over the world where humans are found. So to be human is in part to make other things humanlike so they and their context may be better understood. I might do a paper on this. Put that anthropology/ psychology degree to work.
Know the enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles you will never be in peril. When you are ignorant of the enemy, but know yourself, your chances of winning or losing are equal. If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain in every battle to be in peril. Sun Tzu.

I know next to nothing about furries or fursonas (until this lecture). But, I definitely would have never predicted the existence of illicit NFT fursonas in a million years.
If Sonic is considered a furry, does that mean that Mickey Mouse and Felix the cat are furries? or is there some kind of line of what is and what isn't considered or is all just considered one. Anthro is anything that resembles or have human characteristics. A lamp with arms, legs and resembles a human are anthropomorphic, but all animal anthro are furries?
Furry is a vibe thing. I prime example would be undertale character are not described as furries bespite characters like toriel and astiel, because they look like monster types. While characters in undertale yellow DO look like firries because they carry the asthetics of stereotypical fursonas. Both anthro, but only one is considered furry.
Ii always thought "closed species" were dumb. Go ahead and make a pokemon or Sonic OC, that's okay, but not a species an actual furry made. It's hypocritical.
My knowledge on Protogens may be slightly outdated, but from what I last heard, they are a semi-open species. Which means anybody is free to make their own Protogen character, however, the design and lore of their Protogen MUST strictly adhere to rules set by the species' creator. If a Protogen breaks these rules, their owner will be politely asked to alter it to fit within the guidelines. Otherwise, it cannot be considered a Protogen. Since both of the Protogens Lando drew had artificial 'fins' in place of biological ears (a feature exclusive to Primagens) that makes both of those Protogens illegal, which thankfully partially preserves the joke at the end of the video. But I did say my knowledge may be out of date, and I have been seeing a TON of illegal Protogens throughout the past year or so, so it's very likely they became a fully open species recently. Or they just got so popular that the rules couldn't realistically be enforced. This video exclusively mentioned Protogens when it comes to species originating within the furry community, but there are a good number of very popular species that are worth mentioning, including: Sergals, Manokits, Dutch Angel Dragons, Synths, Avali, and Wickerbeasts.

0:53 no way that just happened
Oh it did lol i was in the chat
the original definition of Anthropomorphic actually was used to describe when writers give human traits to god. Such as when you give him a human expression of emotion. So, just know that furrys have taken another word from god himself!
Buddy.. Don't bring god into this, like what you like, don't bring god into this.
God doesn't need to be here.
Oh wow, that's pretty interesting! Do you have any good sources to learn more?
@@erindebaun8315I thought God was a furry? Don't deny him his hobbies 😢
@@leanansidhe6332I mean, if he created all... there are far more types of animals than humans
We are all just God's fleshsona.
Proots are a little stricter, but they aren't closed. Now I think the Zetagens are closed, and those I believe are the precursors to the toasters.
The most common type of scalie/avian I see whenever I'm playing vrchat is an avatar base/species known as an Avali, a small bird with sparse scales.
Sand this to a furry hater and see their reaction and ask them again why they hate Furries
Also there is now way an actual teacher is talking about random fandoms
I always thought it was "Pry-ma-gen", like, the species in its prime, as the Protogens were the prototypes
I also think that he swapped the facts for the primagen and protogens
The protogens are open for anybody to make, primagens only come from malice, and can only be bought
Interested in future videos of the fandom.
its scary how good you are at drawing furries
Sparky… orange cat… reminds me of an old cartoon of, Superman’s dog or something, and there was this orange cat side-character named sparky.
I'm an Avian "gryphon" furry and I love that you covered all the fursona types, great lecture, Professor Lando!
Up until the fedora I thought it was just gonna be Garfield.
i hope there will be a way for people to see the part where you showed their fursona's live. my boyfriend's fursona got shown that night and he wasn't able to see it cuz he was at work. :c
Sparky looks like a distinguished gentleman.
A man of culture. Also cute
I see mine as a skeleton lizard guy. Maybe on the paladin cleric side as a contrast to his undead nature.
Anthropo: Man
Morphic: Form
I'd argue that anthropomorphism isn't just things with human traits, but it is also an innately human quality to have in and of itself. Humans have been taking nonhuman things and turning them into people literally since culture first came into existence, we're talking prehistory concepts. Like long long long before the furry gods of Egypt, and all over the world where humans are found. So to be human is in part to make other things humanlike so they and their context may be better understood. I might do a paper on this. Put that anthropology/ psychology degree to work.
This video has no right to be as informative and as helpful for new furries as it is omg
Know the enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles you will never be in peril. When you are ignorant of the enemy, but know yourself, your chances of winning or losing are equal. If ignorant both of your enemy and yourself, you are certain in every battle to be in peril.
Sun Tzu.
This better not taint my recommends, I'm trusting you on this one professor

*YOU. YOU SEALED YOUR FATE BY YOUR OWN HAND*
Uhm, anthropomorphic comes from anthropos (ανθρωπος; human) and morphe (μορφη; shape/form) 🤣
Plenty more intresting stuff when it comes to custom species
I.E
Mantled beast
Alphagen
Sergal
Avali
And then there are lesser known stuff like ferrin and valgen
Thumbnail made me click. (I’m currently trying to resist the urge to say it)
8:56 The cut off💀
The whole Prima/Protogen debate was too drama filled so I went with a superior alterative... SYNTH
Would...
*would*
Smash.
As a bug myself i approve of this class and it's in depth explanation of furries.
Seeing the progression of these thumbnails/titles has been a trip
How many variations exist?
I saw 5 thumbnails with 7 different titles 😮
I didnt know it was illegal i never heard of this before welp whats done is done when i get a job ill buy the license and owner ship of the protogen species one day and make it free for everyone to use and modify
Are we just gonna pretend like he didn't just say 'Hopefully' at 3:30!?
Even though I don't speak English, with this video I feel like I have learned a lot
Gracias Lando
I'm not much of a furry lover, but protogens and scalies are my favorites, I think they look cool
Madusa simp?
When they started talking about Sonic OC’s, my mind immediately went to Coldsteel
0:55 professor lando is good with making animal sounds, its like he has experiance with this...
I know next to nothing about furries or fursonas (until this lecture). But, I definitely would have never predicted the existence of illicit NFT fursonas in a million years.
PRIMAgens are the closed species, but PROTOgens are open **
HELLO? Where the duck am I at? Idk how I got to this region of the internet. Can anyone give me directions out of this rabbit hole?

“Uhhh…some of them do” you’ve done research idk wether to be impressed or scared
You forgot the various sea creature fursonas like sharks, dolphins, etc.
Iv watched this video like 4 times because of all the changes in the title and thumbnail
Both anthro, but only one is considered furry.
closed species as a concept is ridiculous and unenforceable. i create sonas of closed species out of spite all the time.
Think we could get some best moms in history? Dads too.
Ii always thought "closed species" were dumb. Go ahead and make a pokemon or Sonic OC, that's okay, but not a species an actual furry made. It's hypocritical.
Its like the ea of furrys it's fucking stupid
What exactly am I getting a degree in? It can't be furries... Can it?
This won't be on the midterm right?
Remember kids, gate keeping furry species is cringe
as a protogen myself, i like this mostly.
Imagine being in a class and your proff just pulls out a sponsor
I might know a few things about fursonas
your thumbnails are
weird
This video exclusively mentioned Protogens when it comes to species originating within the furry community, but there are a good number of very popular species that are worth mentioning, including:
Sergals, Manokits, Dutch Angel Dragons, Synths, Avali, and Wickerbeasts.
