Thanks so much for these videos. I have the 12/42 MTD with a broken spindle and the bracket holding the blade snapped as well. I’m going to review your videos again as I drop my deck and undertake these repairs.
Thanks for putting in all the time that it took to shoot the videos for this series. It is much appreciated. As i said before i ached along with you on the heavy lift and grunt work.
Hope your neck and back didn't suffer too much more wrestling with that deck. I could see the pain on your face. I sure do enjoy watching the MTD coming along. Thanks for taking the time to record all your hard work for us! -Kevin

Hi Bruce nice video I had the same machine I’m looking up belt size but I can’t found it do you by any chance know what size belt for that machine please and thank you😊
I got given the same one as yours, it certainly wasn’t in anywhere near as good condition as yours, had to work it all out by myself, just can’t find any information for the twin cylinder one, with that type of belt set up the deck is a pain in the neck, with all the lying down, getting up etc, I also stripped down the differential, cleaned the filter, I’m having to use a drill on the 32mm engine nut, to start the motor because I the starter just doesn’t seem to have the power 🤷🏻♂️. Subscribed 👍.
Right. These engines do have a compression release (to make the engine start easier) that gets worn which can make them hard to start. As I am not there to help I can't be sure if it is that or a weak starter as you can turn it with a drill. Can you afford to try a new starter before you open up the engine? I parted this one out a few years ago now.
Hello i want your help . I have the exact same tractor i removed the scissors to fix them and then placed them back . But when i tried to lower them they get stuck and i have to push them so they get down . What can i do to fix it
thanks i used vise grips lasttime had all i could do to pull it back n hook it i need to take the deck off again so looking for an easier way thanks again
I couldn't help but notice you skipped the spring attachment. On my Ranch King i could not pull that spring. So i wrapped a steel cable dog leash around my right foot, Attached the dog collar clip to the spring, And pulled it with one foot, While i guided it into place with my hands, Wearing thick gloves of course. It worked, But i couldn't help but wonder if there is an easier way.
@@BrucesShop I would try that today, But i'm really sore from pulling on it yesterday with pliers. Actually no, I think ill wait until i have to take it off again. Good idea though.
@@BrucesShop Ah i see, So i wasn't completely crazy doing it that way? Hehe. But yeah, I won't use the dog clip next time, Just the wire, And a solid handle. That clip really made me nervous, their so cheap.
Hey Bruce! I really have enjoyed watching you "Save" this MTD. I was always told that if you take care of your tools, they will last longer, and take care of you!! Plus why spend money on "newer" or so called "better" technology, when tried and true is so reliable, and easier to work on! Anyway, a question that has been popping up is: How many days did it take to get the MTD back up an running? Also, when you order your parts, do you get them at a store, or order by mail?
Thanks for the video, it helped me install the deck on my Yard Machines. But however I ran into an issue where the deck stays permanently engaged even in the off position, is there any way to adjust this?
Hi Bruce,I have 1988 Premiere 42 inch cut by Mtd .Looks like the same config.as yours.I having trouble reinstalling the mower deck.In the disengaged position, the front of the deck is hitting drive pulley when it's completely hooked up.What model is yours and how can I get a manual relating to the deck installation. No info anywhere on my model. Thanks
@@BrucesShop ok thanks does the pin go across on the arms that attach to the deck just bought this tractor sweet machine but only cut on low setting have deck spring but nobody knows where it goes belt slips when I try to cut on higher setting
This may be the wrong spring but this series shows them all. Try looking at part 6 too ruclips.net/video/D6cPpKl1owA/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ndre8rjfBMc/видео.html
@@rogerjeannotte826 It should hook to the right side of the large attachment plate, And then to a small indentation in the metal by the rear right axle. Or maybe yours is built on the left, but their the same.
Get some really stiff wire and make a loop (4 inches or so) and get an old broom handle and drill a hole near the end of the stick. Loop the wire through that and hook the spring with that and pull back the spring.

I know you have put a lot of work into the MTD but rest assured your viewers have appreciated your efforts. Thanks for the upload !
Thanks , I was wondering.

Well thanks. I actually enjoy the results of the work. Sometimes the work hurts. But most 60 year olds would say the same.

Good for you. The harder it is, the more rewarding (but painful) Thanks Okie.

I am sorry this is a 6 year old video and the machine is no longer here. Sorry once again.
Coming along nicely Bruce. If I lived closer I'd give you a hand.
Thanks George. It is almost done!!! 1 more week.

How to connect the springs? That was what i was looking for...missed a big part on deck installation.
Sorry this is an older video.

I am sorry this is a six year old tractor. Possibly you have anchored the bars to the wrong spot.
I have a 16/42 hydro like yours, has been a good tractor wish i had a manual for it
There is more to come on the MTD later in the month
Thanks you put me over the top on getting it done July 2018
What size belt to drive the blades...I bought a 5/8 -60 it won't disengage my blades belt to small
Man I am sorry. This video was made in 2016 and the machine has been gone for 5 years.

I made up a big hook with a thick wire. I put the wire on the spring and pull the hook to stretch the spring.

It took about 2 full weeks to do it. (over a longer period) I order some locally and some from Amazon. I always try local first though.

Hmmm The belt should loosen as it raises. Keep looking is all I can say. I will think about it as this just came in on a 2 year old video.
You havent fitted the spring ?
Sorry this is a 6 and a 1/2 year old video now. I am sorry

Hi Bruce/ Thanks for video, nice job.
Could you tell me where can I find manual book for repearing .
Best regards.
Ebay would be my guess.
Looks good Bruce. Did you have fun putting the spring back on?
I got so involved i forgot to turn on the camera.
Things do last longer when they are properly maintained
Right. Thanks Jim
Hey Bruce what year is that MTD 16hp tractor and where does the deck spring hook up to thanks Roger
There is a reinforced pin at the rear. I don't know the year. The tractor is gone now.

Thanks Steve. The old MTD is coming.
nice job.
Thanks Josh. Good to here from you.
Bruce Pender yep I am about a month behind on videos
Hi Bruce, thanks for the video. I subscribed to Varga's channel, never too late to learn something (I'm 69), lol.
He has a great channel.
thanks Bruce ...
Thanks for watching.
Nice
Very nice
How did you get the spring in place?
I used a hook with thick wire and my legs for strength. . i will try to find the video.
Bruce Pender Thank you for getting back with me. That sounds like good idea. Will try it tomorrow.
You should use knee pads, and you did an amazing job on that deck
Oh!!!!! the MTD deck. I built the deck on my house too haha
anybody know an easy way to hook that spring on the back of the deck on the older mtd models?
Get some really stiff wire and make a loop (4 inches or so) and get an old broom handle and drill a hole near the end of the stick. Loop the wire through that and hook the spring with that and pull back the spring.
Zippo Varga taught me the wire trick. Great channel. Go there if you can
A trampoline type spring works the best.
T cut and wax jobs a good un. ;-)
You only showed one side that’s great and all but that’s not a complete video
OK I did make this video 6 years ago
