I'd always heard about this album being bad, but never gave it a listen. Thanks again for throwing yourself on a grenade to save the rest of us. In regards to New Coke, there are several conspiracy theories that suggest the company intentionally made New Coke to taste inferior to the original, predicting that people would demand the return of the original Coke, allowing the company to switch from cane sugar to corn syrup, which is what they wanted to do all along.
I mean, Coke did that to Pepsi.
They heard about Crystal Pepsi and got scared, so they quickly rushed out Coca-Cola clear, and made it intentionally taste like piss. Everyone hated Coca-Cola clear, so by time Crystal Pepsi gets out, everyone thinks that clear sodas are bad. So Crystal Pepsi flops
Holy hell, you bought the vinyl record for this. That’s dedication. I’m sorry for your loss of, like, three bucks.
I heard about this due to Todd in the Shadows.. I am glad to see a track by track dissection.
You love to see William Hung here
Gotta say, the demos are actually pretty good. They just sh*tted them with all those synths and drum machines
Surprisingly some of the songs are actually quite good in live form, Are You Red...Y in particular was performed in 84 among others and sound really good ngl - the bootlegs are probably on RUclips. The issue with this album starts and ends with the production. Meanwhile Mick Jones dropped his debut with Big Audio Dynamite in the same year which also embraced a similar approach in the utilising of synthesisers and programmed drums, but that was executed exceptionally well (Listen to Sony or Medicine Show etc) 👍
you got to cover corey feldmans angelic 2 the core
Oh its coming It's gonna be awhile but OH its happenin!
Garrett's Secret Account 👌
Yesss.
He did
Even the songs that are half decent are wrecked by that tinny drum machine. They had a very good drummer at this point in Pete Howard, so to use a drum machine was totally perverse.
Hey cactus,
There is a RUclips playlist on John Hestons channel and it includes every single song on Cut The Crap rebooted, it sounds amazing and I think you should do a review. 😊
Those tracks sound SOO much better than the original album. Do have to admit I think I like This Is England on the album better though, has a more emotional feeling to it.
@@patrickmichael5719 for sure, I also prefer the albums North and South more.
I think I blurred this album out of my mind because I had no idea this existed until now.
Also, I forgot about Three Card Trick - thats a damn catchy song if you play it yourself on a guitar (essentially cutting the crap 😄)
I'm impressed it sounds like you actually managed to listed through the whole album. I have never managed that. Good review. If Strummer had re-recorded it with the Mescalaros about 60% of the songs would have been good songs. Its nice hearing demos of some of this material from this era because it just sounds like Strummer's later songwriting, just him trying to forcefully punk it up and make it Clash like while in reality he had already moved on.
North and South is a great song it's about the north and south divide in England. North being poor and south (Tory parts of London) being rich. Very good video by the way. I agree with a lot of what you say. Also I think fingerpopping is about a single unmarried man trying to get a lot of and the best girl 'this finger has no ring, it can point at anything'. Great video!
I agree i was listening to the album, i thought North and south was a awesome good track. Some of the other songs sounded ok to me but nothing really popped. I think the sound of the album is cool.
Could you take a look at, “Playing With Fire” by Kevin Federline please? Thanks!
If not the worst album ever, the most frustrating for sure. It could have been good!
This record by 'the clash' should have taken it's title's advice and issued it as a completely blank record. It would have been so much better that way.
There must have been a Fairlight sitting in the corner of the studio and they decided to throw a few presets into the mix.
Holy shit, I remember that guy.
He finally became a star!
Great Video of a disappointing album, I still stand by 'Dirty Punk' and 'This is England' as reasonable tracks with shitty production, this wasn't The Clash, this was Joe Strummer without the songwriting talents of Jones And Topper, I'm guessing drugs and a overzealous manager that thought he could relaunch The Clash on the cheap with shotty 80s production didn't help, I sad end to a brilliant and important band.
“We are the clash” was written when joe strummer heard that mick Jones said he was going to we’re going to do some shows with topper under the name “the real clash”
Grammar. Learn how to use it.
I guess cut the crap should've.... Cut the crap. 😎
Never before or since has there been an album with such a fitting title
If this album had been an album by The Clash and not by Rh*des, it would just be an ordinary album, but not a mediocre one, how it ended up being
I find it silly and stupid on the part of the remaining members of the band and the record company not to remaster it, there are several good songs, even the bad ones could be listenable, but they say that we don't want that...
Buen canal! Siendo hispanohablante pude entender bien lo que dices, incluso los subtítulos mostraron *casi* siempre lo que decías, mereces más subs!
Have you already reviewed the Bad Religion album Into The Unknown? That album also has the same reputation as this one.
I have not but I will absolutely give it a listen!
The Clash wouldn't even exist if not for Rhodes making them up (by competing with McLaren's Sex Pistols) - I've always thought them very subpar and preachy (while being hypocrites to boot) - although 'White Riot' is really, really good
@@CactusMalpractice I'LL BECOME A MEMBER / PATRON WHATEVER PLEASE REVIEW THIS SUGGESTION 😂❤
Oof, it's like they saw what Killing Joke was doing and thought "oh yeah, we can do that!"
nice shirt, TMBG were my childhood
I also have that same sound effects album. Just found this channel and I’m really enjoying this series
Bring me the head of Jose Unidos!!!
The "cast of a thousand football hooligans" approach to the backing vocals of this album really makes me cringe.
Cut The Crap is a steaming pile of crap
Speaking of band albums made after most of the people left and / or were replaced is The Velvet Underground's Squeeze. It's almost entirely written by Yule. The one review said something akin to "A Velvet Underground album in name only"
I actually quite like this album, I think it gets a lot of bad press, but think you're review of it is very fair. There is a remastered version that came out in the mid 2000s which actually sounds a lot better than the original version. I don't really think of it as a Clash album as Mick and Topper weren't involved, and actually Paul Simonon doesn't even play bass on it(!!!!) The thing I like about it is the trashy-ness of it. It sounds cheap and nasty, loads of drum machines and sound-effects, and crappy sounding keyboards. If you don't compare it to their other albums, or even consider it a Clash record, it's actually quite a weird and interesting record. But yeah, totally ruined by the original mix and production
basically their manager forced a lot of the album
Nowhere near the worst album ever made.. the worst clash album yes but this album is way better then a lot of 80s crap that came out in that era
I can't remember who said it, but my favorite review of this album went something like this..."The Clash's new album is called Cut the Crap and guess what, it's crap!"
This LP has no redeeming features and virtually no guitars. Where the F are the guitars? I wrote a very scathing review of this on the discogs site some years back. I think it was a cathartic process. How you could give any of these songs more than 1 star is generous to say the least. Finger Poppin' is an embarrassment, not so bad its good. "The Clash" indeed.
Mohawk Revenge is the superior version
no mick no clash
i bought it on cassette, utter crap, but This is England is spectacular.
How did you get William Hung?
This is awesome!!!
William Hung's on Cameo
I'm a big fan of the rest of The Clash's catalog but never have even bothered with this one. Their manager Bernie Rhodes is the one responsible for taking over the production of this album and essentially ruining any potential it had...and I think he also is the one who manipulated the other guys into firing Mick Jones not long before it was made. Mick would have never allowed Bernie to be so involved and I feel that's why Bernie wanted him out of the way. I do see this album as Strummer and Simonon's karma for firing Mick without as much as having a conversation with him to try to work things out. I think Joe, himself, actually tried to take legal action to stop the album from coming out, he hated it that much. Yikes. The band does not consider it to be a Clash album, which is why it's never gotten any remastering and wasn't even included in the box set.
NONE of these songs deserve above a 2/5
The one dislike is from Bernie
Well. three card trick is my favorite song. So sad I never understand the lyrics until now.Thank you.
This feels like it was made by another band under the clash name.
Kinda like how most streaming services mix other artists with the same name.
The fact that Willam hung showed up is great showing that he didn’t care about the rating
my man william hung sliding in
Production is awful - I heard rough demos and they were much better ie no Rhodes fannying about. Saw them live in 84, not bad but too much onus on the guitarists trying to be 'proper players' instead of a buzzsaw with the lead on top - if you listen to early Clash it's like a rocket going off.
Hello everyone!
i always wonder how this album was such a disaster with how great joe strummer's solo stuff is
I got another one for you to add to your list. squeeze by The velvet underground.
90% of the time when someone tries to do something new it ends up baaaaaad :(
William hung!!!
PUNK died in 1985
What on earth would this guy know about Mrs Thatchers Britain????
I like "Are You Red...Y".
You Need to cover Dee Dee King. The worst rap album ever. Weird it is Dee Dee Ramone. Hahaha.
"This is not....good" 😅😅 Such an odd album.
honestly this album grew on me over the years, not the best clash album but the worst album? i don't think so, i suppose its kinda like the Echo and the Bunnymen "Reverberation" album - fans weren't just used to the new members (or in the case of the Bunnymen a new vocalist). "Dictator", "This is England", "Three Card Trick", "Life is Wild" and "Cool Under Heat" are ok with me.
Could you review Rembrandt Pussyhorse by Butthole Surfers?
That album isn't great, but the Butthole Surfers shouldn't be on this show.
@@musicdump7795 nah I love that album, just wanted to see him review one of my favorite bands
@@Kittiekonfuzed oh my bad lol. I thought you meant it was terrible and I was like ?????? even tho most of the Rembrandt songs I don't really like. I fucking love BHS and would love to hear him talk about them too.
This Album may was the Gravestone , BUT i loved it. Totaly diffrent than all the others i loved and still love, BUT GREAT in its own way. I bougth it directly in 1985 as a young guy in Germany found it diffrent in a new innovative way. And i must say that Bernie Rhodes Input sounds good for me. A great Album. Diffrent but Great.
Eyyy fantastic video
It's not the worst ever, it's was not great, the band was not bad live, the manager added the drum machines and keys and football chorus. Joe is mixed low in the mix, his lyrics aren't very strong here.
This may be the second worst album ever made. The absolute worst one was fire and gasoline by Steve Jones of the sex pistols.
Can you do you'll cowards don't even smoke crack?
Ye B)
its a shitty album that clutches at straws in total desperation. AVOID.
This is actually one of my fave albums, love every track
Johnny Rotten was a most profound punk group.
The one song on the radio from the clash that they flooded the airwaves to sell sell sell. I threw my stereo out the window.
dictator slander will not be tolerated.
Do Jay-Z black album
Still better than anything Beyonce, Taylor Swift did
2009 called, it wants its yt comment back
Do not ever have William Hung do an introduction on your videos ever again....
I laughed when you talked about we are the clash and use a clip of the damned here is the video of new rose where the clip comes from
ruclips.net/video/TUxFQ5QBiYk/видео.html
Oh yeah this clip was from the cut the crap review from todd in the shadows! In it he's describing the punk genre before he gets into the meat and potatoes of the album! Really good eye neil!
Dictator is great
Bad take
clash sux.
The GOAT William Hung!
