The first symbol on the stihl saw means the chamber is closed so the engine is choking ( choke on ) the middle one is half choke ( choke half open ) and the last one is the chamber open air getting in ( choke off )
i just rebuilt my ts 420 saw with all new kit everything and on startup it smoked but i thought maybe for the oil i put on the piston and rings and head not much i let it run for 20-30 min at idle for breakin and it smokes badly on the rev up .......took it back apart to check the rings and head all looks good comp test at 87 -90 no leakdown after 10 min what do you think could be the issue
Like others have said - What is "OFF" is the "air intake" . When it is "OPEN" it means it can get "air". It does NOT mean choke on or choke off. (except with the understanding that when you restrict the "air" you are choking it - Same goes for people but don't do that :)
If an engine seems to be bogging down, it's always best if uncertain of the choke lever position to experiment and if it comes to proper revs in the opposite position that's the correct position. The throttle and choke linkages under the cover are not difficult to remove and refit on that model.
I don’t think you should go anywhere near them machines alone use them

buy a sharpening kit. that chain has loads of life left in it. just needs regular sharpening.

Choke means...choking off the air..this flap blocking off the mouth.

Why buy a new chain ?.You only needed to sharpen the old one and you had it to loose.

The choke works by closing the inlet venturi, hence the term choke. This makes it suck more petrol by restricting the air inlet.
Good video! I work on mowers. Good idea to help someone understand basically it was flooded. Its frustrating when your equipment dosent start!
