You should've tried this around Barcelona because it's a higher downforce track yet also requires alot of straightline speed.
Also with the bottoming out of the car in higher speed corners it could be really interesting.
i was thinking spain as well! it has a really solid mix of power/downforce with those couple long striaghts and then different speed corners
like with the final chicane being replaced with the high speed corner, the double power would really benefit from it to make up the time loss through the downforce bits
I think it was obvious that double power was gonna win. There aren't really any drawbacks, apart from traction but that doesn't affect the AI that drastically.
With downforce you get issues with suspension, lack of topspeed, dirty air, tyre temperatures and wear etc.
with double power you can also just increase downforce and eat up the drag penalty
Very simplistically speaking, with double power you could just apply double downforce via the set-up (but will have double drag) and have the same top speed. Actually a little more because the mechanic resistances and car weight aren't increased. However, what you still gain is acceleration compared to having double downforce for free, since at lower speed it's more about accelerating mass than about overcoming aerodynamic drag.
Are you going to drive double power with AI on double downforce at the same tracks? Could be interesting.

Zandvoort would have been a good track to test. Rather high downforce but there’s some medium length straights everywhere

I don’t now how well the Venturi tunnels would work if there’s more room for the air to escape with the ride higher.

Honestly with monaco I'd loved to have seen the result of a few qualifying laps with each mod. Then we'd have the ai-derp ruled out as well on how close it actually is.
ive managed to main 310 kph in eau rouge by keeping inside the track limits before hitting eau rouge but also using my overtake to keep my speed

Dbl HP vs Dbl DF is basically Merc 2014-2018 vs Red Bull 2014-2018 (mostly)
And we saw how much it benefited over a whole season. Some tracks the RB could be closish but overall, double HP is just better at majority of the tracks.
We not gonna mention Sargeant P9 at Spa
the perfect middle that is the point so all other doesnt matter cz your tires will die faster
Df compounds the faster you go and so really high df only is an advantage on tracks with super high speed flowing corners, eg Silverstone, la castelet, spa middle sector, etc. Tracks like Monaco and Hungary, whilst they do have some semi fast flowing corners, the amount of df needed isn’t actually that high because you will barely go fast enough to take advantage and if anything, you will be creating unnecessary drag. If you know this you will realise that on slow speed tracks like Monaco, it’s mostly about setting up for mechanical grip, you need a bit of df but mainly it’s about setting the car up for traction and agility, df is a relatively small factor in situations like this.

For first race belgium it’s basically f1 22 over again lol op straight line speed for ai then way better downforce for players and can brake so much later
u also gotta match downforce levels to ai, they use recommended setup levels afaik

No wonder the AI above 100 somehow gained straight line speed per each increased level, which made it really hard to balance your setup to match their top speed for immersion purposes...damn, do you know how much weight advantage they get at 110?

One big issue with this mod, when you double downforce your straight line speed gets cut in half. They AI’s downforce stayed the same though so you’re actually 4X slower on the straight. But the ai get double power which doesn’t affect the downforce. So they only really get benefits while you gain some but buff theirs so yours is pointless
Would have made sense to make half AI double downforce and half double power. Now it's just can you cheese your way through the corners against AI with straight line speed rather than an actual test of which is better.
As we like to say in America " if you wanna go faster you need more power and more torque"

For me, 2nd half of 2021, Mercedes proved that Power rules everything.
They could even go through one ICE per race, take a penalty, they had such a power advantage that they were recovering positions straight away !

well, its pretty obvious, if you double downforce you trade acceleration and speed but if you double power you trade nothing and get more speed xD Didn't need an experiment for that lol

Not an expert but I'd guess the only tracks where downforce would be more important than power are these 4
1. Monaco
2. Singapore
3. Hungary
4. Hockenheim (probably butchered the name)
you chose the wrong tracks to do this... i suggest one of them should have been spain, circuit de catalunya was specifically desigend to test every aspect of a race car, its why they used it for pre-season for so long. its one of the few tracks in the world that has at least 1 of every type of corner.
Now drive double downforce and double power if you haven't

my guess before watching:
double power.
more power = more speed which increases downforce at top speed.
more downforce increases speed through corners, which happens at lower speed.
the advantage of more power occurring at a higher speed means a greater gain in time.
Why do you try this on a low downforce circuit...
