    Front lawn looks lush - you can tell rye is happy in that soil and amount of sunlight it gets. Fingers crossed your timing for reseeding the back with bent and fescue looks perfect. It’s warm but not too warm, and dry but still some rain forecast for next week or so.

    • @NoviceGardener

      The rye seems to give it quite a good colour the fescue seems to be keeping the sward thick. It almost requires no maintenance at times.

    I recently renovated my lawn, I brought myself an electric scarifier from Argos, it’s worked brilliant, I have over seeded an top dressed, it’s now coming through nicely, I can’t wait for first cut with the rotary 😊 but I’ve recently invested in a cylinder mower from fb market place, was from a green keeper from my local cricket ground, also looking forward to be using that for the first time! I enjoy watching your videos dude keep it up! Brilliant 👍😆

    I’m just here for the music…. Kidding. Great video, how do you get the lines in the grass, is there a roller on the mower? And how do you manage both a dog and a green lawn 😂

    • @NoviceGardener
      @NoviceGardener  29 дней назад +1

      🤣
      It's the rear roller on the back. It's more defined with the Hayter as it has no back wheels, meaning a bit more weight on the roller.
      And with regards to the dog, he can be a nightmare! But he's almost 2 so hopefully he doesn't dig anything up in the garden this year 😅

      I brought mine down to 2 last year and it looked spot on. Did it around June time after that mad heatwave. Not sure whether I'm going to do the same this year as it can dry out a bit too easily if left too short.

    The bent i put in the communal lawns has come up like stubble lol. My back overseed though isnt great as I tried out a germination fleece. I dont think water gets through well as the existing grass lifting it up and seeds struggle to germinate. The fleece really needs to touch the soil to work. I removed it and cut low. I'll keep watering and hopefully they will now come up. I will never use a germination fleece when overseeding again. I'm leaving my new lawn fleece for a few more days as animal will dig up the rootzone.

    • @chriscole3624
      @chriscole3624 29 дней назад +1

      I've used a fleece for seeding this time to stop trees dropping rubbish, cats from using the bare soil as a toilet & to help speed up the process. It's been 5 days now & the old grass is starting to poke through the sheet. I cant see if any germination of the new seed has occurred (I put up a fence around it too), but I'll leave it for 7-10 days & see what transpires.
      I don't think I'll be able to wait 2 weeks with it down or the old grass will have matted itself into it. Fingers crossed for a good result as this is the second seeding of the season (the mid-april attempt was a washout).

    • @stevenbelcher5658
      @stevenbelcher5658 29 дней назад

      @@chriscole3624 It should help the bare soil germinate. I had a ring around the bare soil where the old grass lifted the fleece. water doesnt get through it well. it gets damps then drips run along the underside but it doesnt water the seed unless it contacts it. I'm watering the seeds now hoping they will germinate, if not ill do a 20g / m2 overseed of the entire lawn . The front lawns germinated well in most parts except where the new soil meets another lawn and the fleece if elevated on that grass not allowing water through to the seeds. I'm keeping on until the weekend as it's raining next week and I hope the rest of the seed germinates before cats shit in the rootzone.
      The communal area where I seeded and didnt water leaving it to few times it has rained to help it to germinate has come through better than the overseed that was fleeced. They are ok if you water then leave for 5-7 days but whats even the point unless there are hundreds of birds around.

    • @chriscole3624
      @chriscole3624 29 дней назад

      @@stevenbelcher5658 I sprayed with a wetting agent after laying the fleece & it seems to be passing through ok. I got the 17g thinnest fleece though. I don't want to walk on it to check the bare patches (the suspense is killing me 🤣). I'll leave the fleece on as long as possible as the old grass isn't going to get pulled out when I remove it. So might as well see it out.
      Good luck 👍
