I used to velcro/bungie cord my 2-piece rod and sand spike horizontally to the top bar. No issues with getting on and off the bike and pedalling. If you are worried about the front of the rod getting snagged on something, just velcro a pvc pipe as long as the rod.
The higher the mount the easier the bike tipps over, especially with mounts on the kickstand side. Low an angled rearward misses trees too. Having to remove hooks nd weights as I go from spot to spot is my problem. I've tried velcro wraps and such but could sure use a good idea/ hack on this one before I get hooked mtself.
Very true on the weight balance! Before I started using milkcrates, I just did this - ruclips.net/video/3bg0XYqrOqY/видео.html But, that was for freshwater rods that are not really long like surf rods.
sorry for the late reply. Each day, I saw your question and thought... I need to go check... and promptly forget to do so. Today, I checked. I looked at the baitcasters from two different companies that are pretty representative. Neither fits - so do not buy this if you are using baitcasters since the rod will not snug into the slot.
Nice solution for what it is, and nice and very fair and thorough review. I believe you did a great job explaining work-arounds for the potential issues so that people wouldn't get the product and complain about it if it didn't do what they wanted right out of the box. I really like your reviews for that reason. I don't believe this particular product will work for my circumstances. I'm 6'4" (or 6'5" - depends on my shoes 😂) so I don't have a problem swinging my leg over the center bar. Therefore, I'm probably going to stick with the milk crate on the rack. Although instead of PVC pipe, I do use the fairly cheap double plastic rod holders meant for boat or wall mount. They are mounted at a angle (pointing backwards) and fastened with screws which go through the braces on the mount itself - it needs to be improved, but it works. I did think about making a redneck engineering video using a 14' beach rod and some type of sail attached on a rod mount - wouldn't be the least bit useful or informative, but might be somewhat humorous 🤔🤣
@@KayakhacksFishing I'll see about sending you something (pics or video) when we can get the bikes out. If you were referring to the redneck engineered sail... I don't actually have that yet - I'll need to make sure my insurance premiums are all paid up as well before I try that stunt 🤣😂🤣

I agree - that is a great option. I covered something similiar in another video.
Always nice to learn a better way to do something.

Have you tried putting a bait caster rod combo in these?

@@KayakhacksFishing Thanks.
Thanks for this
Would saddle bags solve some of these issues?
No, since you cannot attach the rod to the saddlebag. If you did not have a milk crate and wanted to use bags, the front fork option is best.
Cool little product

I would like to see that!

@@2reelyakrz481 Yes, the sail!
Legend! Thank you :)
Very cool
Interesting issues involved in his simple action. Sorry the front wheel mount is so problematic.
