If you're ever looking for miner story inspiration, in Gothic 1 and 2 magic ore is an important resource used to make weapons for the war with orcs. The situation is dire enough where people with small crimes get sentenced to work in the prison colony where you serve out your time by mining magic ore.
To contain the colony a magic barrier was created by 12 mages but the ritual goes awry and the barrier ends up encapsulating a much larger region than intended, the prisoners take control of this region and 3 camps are created. The barrier cannot be left, only entered so a deal is made with the king where the prisoners keep mining the ore in exchange for resources.
The first two Gothic games have a simillar magic+medieval bleak setting so they would serve plenty for inspiration.
That sounds like a fantastic story. I have never played those games sadly.. may have to check them out.
@@WilsonsGame That's fair, the series is mostly known in central europe but its a cult classic here. It's still sitting high on the throne of immersive rpgs. Some mechanics are dated (the first game is 22 years old now) but the world building is fenomenal and competes with modern titles.
They are working on a remake of gothic 1 which looks kinda nice. But there's been no update on progress since ages xD you can play the demo free on steam if you want to get an idea ^^

Great video! Using Vaermina's quest to kinda ween Dark and Darker into Skyrim's lore is very clever. It also works because the Goddess in Dark in Darker is named Maara, pronounced exactly like Mara. Can't wait for the next vid!
Oh nice, ill be honest dawnstar was a fluke.. I was experimenting with mods and arrived there by chance. Then noticed the mines and thought.. oh thats neat.... then overheard all the nightmare stuff and was like wait a second what is going on here. Only quest I remember doing in dawnstar was for the dagger in the past.
Where did you learn this about dark and darker goddess? As a lore starved individual I would truly love the info!
