Great Podcast for shoe nerds! I always assumed shell was shaved on both sides to isolate the single layer of shell but it's actually full grain/grain side left intact?

We were a little indirect about the grain side of the cordovan in this episode. We will do a full episode on shell eventually. Long story short: Horween shaves down from the flesh side of the horsebutt to expose the shell. The grain side of the shell is mostly left intact but the grain side gets "bump split" to even down the thickness. There is often a bit of grain left on the "reverse" side of the shell cordovan (aka the grain side). Wow that was confusing to type and I'm sure its confusing to read. My apologies - Phil
