Standard set collector products at launch for retail is a poor decision historically (but if they keep print runs tight and make them really limited, with enough unique cards in them, my position on them could change) but buying them at lows has seen decent returns. Universes beyond sets, to me, is where the opportunity lies beccause WOTC/Hasbro have an incentive not to overprint and damage other people's IPs... So far I have some DR. Who boxes sitting up 15% in 8 months, sold one fallout box at 58% gain one month post launch and 2 more sitting about 135% up from my cost...wasn't planning on selling that soon, but when it rockets like that, trimming is a must and can buy back if there is a dip. I also bought into the Jurassic World Secret Lair stuff (big Jurassic Park fan...) since they went back to limited prints on those too (up at least 2-3x on those since november...again, other IP is big IMHO). I have not spent the time to look at other UB products but obviously LOTR has done well. I'm not saying MTG is the best investment out there. MOST of my TCG stuff is in pokemon sealed...but there are solid returning opportunities out there of all types...though typially, when people are the most bearing on stuff.
It’s kinda dishonest to compare Pokemon to MTG. Pokemon is the gold standard, and MTG is going through a correction right now. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but you are looking at it from the worst angle. Just from your thumbnail there are three boxes that have bounced off their lowest point. During Christmas Black Friday sales on Zulu Games you could get AFR & New Cap for $100, no tax, free shipping. You would be up 25%. And about 6 months ago you could get Double Masters 22 for $159 on TCG player, and that’s near 50% gains. There are others doing similar numbers. I don’t want to go too deep, but I still believe in MTG collectors. Now is the time to buy, if you truly love the cards and collecting. But obviously Pokemon is a much stronger investment.
I agree there was really good times to buy these when they tanked but this is just saying hey instead of buying these sets on release if you got Pokémon instead it would be way better I know it’s hard to compare Pokémon and Magic but this is simply saying if you got money buy Pokémon don’t pre order Magic
Once a product has already gone up, buying into it carries an extreme risk. The most popular products you see are more likely near their price ceiling than the products that no one is talking about at the moment. Not financial advice, but this can be applied across the board. Something may be a good investment if you can buy low, and the same product may be a bad investment if you buy at the peak after all the money has been made. Don't buy into the hype. Wait for a good deal. What I want to see is serial numbers on stickers on the outside of the "collector" boxes. When I was a kid, I saw that gold sticker on the 1992 Marvel Masterpieces box and I thought that serial number would help the sealed box hold its value. Sure enough, those $50 boxes sell for over $300 now. Not as good as Dual Lands or Power 9, but 5.5% compound interest for 32 years is not terrible. Would have been better to hold sealed Pokemon or Magic from that era. Maybe these boxes are underpriced at $300 per box. (not financial advice)
Wotc has finally discovered the luxury item playbook and the magic player/investor community has been caught with their pants down. What wotc lacks in sophistication in comparison to Rolex, LV, Ferrari and others, they make up for with boldness.
caught your comment on moxmans channel to lead me here. i'm 2 seconds in and i gotta say i'm turned off by the "folks" intro. that's Rudy's stuff man. be original. ima watch your video though
@@ToGoBox69 I get it, just saying, in the TCG influencer space..Rudy's like the king or some shit. lol But he made it there being himself and doing his own thing. i Respect that. there are other "TCG influencers" i have watched and quit watching for the same reason. (Mark from solar games comes to mind). I just think you would be more successful if you were original. who knows, it may not bother others the same it bothers me. Anyways, nice start! almost to 200. I will go ahead and subscribe for now and check out your future content. Your video had valid information for sure!
@@tholloway81 Meh Rudy lost a lot of creditability by pushing meta zoo because he was involved in it. Yeah he knows his MTG stuff and has been involved heavily from the beginning but you can say that to anyone who was involved collecting at that time. But his whole meta zoo involvement left sour taste.

There is definitely good points to pick up some of these boxes after crashes no doubt about that
How to determine which sets of MTG to buy sealed and which secret lair drops to buy?
As someone who never held a magic card in my life, thanks for the heads up
They are charging "the value" not the cost. They can only go down.
Good correction!
I think the “Folks” is kind of meme and I don’t mind it. Looking forward to more videos.
