I just happened upon this video today having never heard of this channel before. Being a former MTG player of the 90s I was curious so I clicked. The 3 current best performers in my sealed collection I’ll be selling off: Reap the tides precon: bought at 28$ in 2021, tcg low 132 Elven ambush precon: bought at 35$ in 2021, tcg low 93 Phyrexia ONE compleat bundle: bought at 115 in 2023, tcg low 184 No you won’t get every pick right, yes I have a bunch of other sealed in the toilet, but there is a skill set in recognizing products that will outperform. My next pick is the OTJ quick draw precon and the OTJ commander deck cases as a whole because of the bounty mini game. Things with quirky little add ins like that have a novelty factor that helps reduce devaluation.
LOVED YOUR SPEECH/VIDEO ( you know your STUFF) - my grandson and my son-in-law have wasted THOUSANDS on various CARD GAMES (individual cards) and don't have much NOW but they LOVED what they have (the cards) ! WHAT is MORE IMPORTANT in Life (Be HAPPY FOR A WHILE) !!! :-)

Somehow, anything post collectors edition boxes and the booster fun era seems like if you zoom out in time frame, in 15-20 years, this era’s magic will eventually collapse like 90’s era comics and sports cards. Although some had an increase in value during that time, today, it’s all basically worthless. None of it is rare. Anything during today’s era feels like it can’t succeed in the long term. Maybe I’m wrong; no one knows for sure. Hope you do well with it if you hold, it just seems unlikely.
Sealed product isn't dead, it's just mortally wounded by WoTC's greed and the economy. After the covid boom they expected the money to still keep coming in. It didn't so they raised prices and pushed out even more product to try to meet their promises to the shareholders.

Hey Rudy, do you feel like not paying attention to individual cards in a set is the reason why you have some failure? Sure the Mordern horizons stuff is good but how do you gauge sets?
As far as magic I really only buy the cool crossover stuff that they release, I bought a bit of the LOTR cards, and some of the doctor who cards. I think the problem with any TCG is getting new players in. Its a huge problem in ygo and thats because of the price point to get into the game. I picked up the Gardevoir battle league deck for 30$ and had a near top tier deck. So if I had to suggest a card game for people to get into on the cheap its definitely pokemon. With magic, I guess if I bought the individual cards for the Sauron deck I built it would have been cheaper, but even buying the commander deck, which I think was like 75$, thats still a lot for someone to spend and then still have to buy about 20$ more in cards to make it playable.

He's completely right about selling and rebalancing risk. What you would do is sell part of it and use that money to make other investments. The thing I kind of regret was never buying any Alpha or Beta MTG. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest. I can remember seeing packs of it and being very interested in buying some of them. I remember for sure that I saw packs of Arabian Knights for sale when it came out, and I remember seeing Alpha and Beta packs at a card store but I was buying Pokemon cards at the time in 1996, I even remember asking the clerk about them because they were like $20 or $30 a pack. The problem was that my parents were religious and had bought into the entire MTG was evil thing, so I never got into MTG until closer to 2000. I have some unlimited and revised cards now that I've picked up, but I kind of doubt I'll ever buy any Beta or Alpha.

I remember myself trying to sell some Khans of Tarkir cards believing those were pricey nowadays. I went and check the price and 99% of the cards in the set are less than 35 cents. And the only valuable cards are the foil lands around 30 bucks. I sold everything and then I realize I just receive the money back of what it cost me years ago (inflation included) at least I could spend that money on another hobby.
