I've spoken to Yamaha and they have confirmed this is an early bike, this is why it has the early paint on the belly pan. Customer bikes were swapped for a proper colour matched version and if you buy one now it will match! Promise :-)
In the years to come, I can see that the CP3 engine will achieve legendary status similar to Suzuki's K5 engine. Both engines are extremely reliable and can be used in a variety of different motorcycle models. Great video again Chops 👏 That's my Sunday morning viewing sorted 😊👍
Yeah imo the CP3 is the Unicorn motor for Yamaha that is the sweet spot of not too much and not too little power and always a joy to ride. Now if we could get a Tenere 900 to finish the lineup........
@Begbiespintpot Yeah they really did the tracer ugly even if it's practical lol. If they could make an FZ1/FZ6 but with the CP3 that would be ideal to me. I just can't get past Adv bike styling for sport touring.
@ganuvien I would take an ADV styled bike with a CP3 in it. I don't think the triple is the right engine for off roading but I do like the riding position so I'd love to see Yamaha attempt one, given how well they styled the T7.
I hear a lot of good stuff about this engine. Can’t wait to ride it. I don’t think it sounds particularly good though. It’s not bad sounding, just not great. Kinda generic sound.
It is a beautiful bike, like a cycloptic iron man. The engine it just perfect, you get plenty but it's not overwhelming (especially with the electronics). You won't get a better bike for that money.
As the owner of a TZR250 as soon as this came out I was down to Bransons for a test ride. I was the first person to take their demo out but despite the engine it didn't do it for me. I actually found it uncomfortable but im only 5 foot 9. Certain bits look ugly to me despite the bike I tested having the optonal full system and belly pan which you would have to have making this bike closer to 15 grand😮 The bar end mirrors are terrible and should be on the fairing and it looks odd with the rear seat cover off. I really wanted to love this bike but just didn't. In fact a few days later I had the new ZX6R as a loan bike and perfered that. 🤔

14:37 - Where's the light sensor for changing from light to dark on the dash? If you can find that and put a little square of tape over it, it'd probably trick it into thinking it's always dark.
Nice review & a great bike. Can totally see the appeal of this on so many different levels. It looks great & is all the sporty road bike you'll ever need as well as being up to the odd track day too. Yamaha also have loads of iconic paint jobs to choose from so if I were them, I do 3 separate all black, white & blue versions & then offer factory fitted graphics kits as an optional extra.
having Tracer 9 GT I can confirm: this engine is amazing. But I will disagree with you with regards to exhaust: I don't want to see it where my luggage is, so I am very happy it exists under the bike ;-)
As a Street triple owner it would be nice if Triumph made there equivalent with the 765 engine, the Yamaha looks stunning apart from that dreadful exhaust. Final destination moment 😂 Cheers Choppsy
As a pro painter, you will never get pearl white to go edge to edge. Look at the front tank cowl to the tank! Also, painting plastic can make the metallic lay differently, due to static electricity. Basically... steer clear of pearl whites!! But what a corker of a bike.❤
It looks better in person, the paint definitely pops more. I'm 5'8, i sat on it and oh no.. It's too long. The mirrors are bad and the seat is odd. I might change my mind on a test ride but first impressions 🤷♂️
We won't be getting this at our shores and tbh i'm not too upset, just not my syle. I did get to sit on a MT09 and while I know the engine is proven and all that, and a noticeable step up from my SV650, the Ninja 1000sx is calling to me more than anything else right now
I was planing on buying the new MT-09 SP early next year, but got a very good deal on a new Triumph Speed Twin 1200 Stealth Edition in Sapphire Red. But, I love that CP3 engine, and it's a bike that I'd love to own, so maybe next time around, I'd just have to bin that exhaust! 👍
It's interesting that I haven't heard any reviews of this bike make comparison to the Z900RS Cafe, which of course has been available for several years and follows a very similar recipe of "old skool" retro-racer.
Different type of bike really. The Kawasaki is a retro Z1 and not particularly sporty. The GP is much sportier and faster in part because it’s much lighter and more powerful
A fantastic looking bike with lots to recommend it. Except for the exhaust, which as you rightly pointed out is hideous. Is it possible for a factory system to look decent, or are we stuck with having to go third-party?
Some bikes look fine. For example the Kawasaki Z900rs has nice looking 4 into 1 system that actually looks like an 80's motad 4 into 1 performance system. Manufacture's can do it , if they try, but many unfortunately don't bother.
I'd like to see this version in the USA please Yamaha... Yes I'm excited about the R9 but this is what I'd rather have for the street! I'd have to swap out the mirrors, I think they're not the right look, but otherwise I think it's just spot on.
I own one it’s a fun bike , regarding the lower fairing the colour is a match now , the first one the dealer got for me wasn’t and had to be re ordered, like you say it’s very stable , great brakes , good looks , a bit wristy at slow speed , suspension is firm , gets better with 1000 miles on it . , I’m pleased I bought one , great review by the way , I also fancy the ehs500 bike lift you have , would you recommend one?
Over at Eicma, they have this bike with a tzr250 red and white colour scheme. Talking to my local Yamaha dealer, they only got 4 bikes, for this year. All sold when the order books opened. Like many of the other posters have said, we need you to get mitts on an R9. :)
Great vid chops but that gap between the belly pan and fairing does not look right. The belly pan is not quite right. Still a nice looking bike though. However I have a genuine original 93 Yam YZF 750R pinky with a somewhat similar fairing and a fairing bracket just like the one on the XSR GP. But my YZF makes more power at 125 hp. On a different note could you and Greg do a video on all the new bikes shown at the EICMA show? Would be interested in your opinions. Take care and ride safe.
The exhaust is absolutely hideous, non existent, a hole in a metal box, why has Government been allowed to mess with an industry that less than 1% of the World’s population gives 2-shits about, just sad!!! How come Jet-Ski’s /Boats /Snow Mobiles, don’t have Catalytic Converters?
I actually prefer the look that comes with the lack of a side-slung exhaust. It provides a clean, symmetrical look rather than having an enormous, black or silver breadbox stuck to the side of a otherwise well considered design. A perfect example of what I mean, and how to do exhausts wrong, is basically every Kawasaki model's stock exhaust (save for the Z650/900RS).
Great hearing your thoughts on the bike mate, I love mine... my love is mainly on the looks, but the engine is a lot of fun, although I do wish it felt a bit more exciting near the top end. I think the only real thing I disagree with in your thoughts though is about the nav... I hate it and deleted it after a single use. It would be nicer if they just allowed you to cast your phone screen to the dash so you could use your own choice of nav software like Calimoto or just Google Maps. Being a shortarse, I do find it quite tall, and that also hinders how easy it is to get a knee down when hooning, but it does ride so very nicely and is soooo deceptivily fast.
A very nice bike but would have been even better with braided hoses. A bit mean of Yamaha not to fit them, considering the price premium over the other models in their triple cylinder range, although an easy enough fix for enthusiastic owners.

I imagine it all depends on your shape and size and how flexiable you are and what bikes you are used to.
