Thank you for this. I'm studying music and doing a bit of research into some of the instruments from medieval times. This is really helpful, and its great to see that these are still being built today.
I play the bowed psaltry and this video really grabbed my attention from the start. The only part of the bowed psaltry that can be a tiny bit difficult is when you play with two bows.
some people play with three or 4 bows. I say a video where a person had 2 bows in one hand, using it as a 'drone' sound, while using one bow in his other hand as the melodie
How to buy one? Tenor, Alto, is there a soprano? What do they sound like when compared. Also, can you play fast songs on them like Italian classics or Irish, is there a ton of versatility to these instruments. For some reason, I am just infatuated with this instrument. I cannot have my piano or organ due to space, thought I would try strings. I just love this instrument but know very little. Loved your video.
Me too I found some on eBay and they're other shops if you just Google it but there is so much versatility to it and it's very easy to play and you can get two Bows which makes it even more exciting I hope you continue to enjoy your adventures best of luck
I believe I bought my psaltry from you. I’m right out of Coshocton. I’m jill Waller. I just saw one that has holes at the bottom and the bow was a lot bigger what is that one called?
I had one made, the guy was kind of a dick. Got a purple heart with the tree rosary 25 string. (Not cheap) Seen him at Atwood October fest (exactly a year after I put in the order) he and his wife practically shooed me away. I was hurt and have been since.
His shop is pretty amazing though, I can't deny that it was a one time experiance with him, and for all I know maybe it was a bad time for him. I retract my previous statement.
Good video! Today i received a Tenor Psaltery. Greetings from Germany!
Met him today at Yankee peddler! Going to buy one for sure! Amazing and haunting sound. ❤️
