    Nice one! Honestly I’ve never been a fan of Rekordbox, I think it’s clunky and could be streamlined and improved tremendously. I started DJ’ing in 1993, I come from the underground after-hours warehouse rave scene playing records on 1200’s, using only my channel volumes to mix and a three band EQ, so at the end of the day I don’t mind simplicity. In this day and age I’ve been kind of left behind when it come to the many features of todays DJ gear and some of my DJ friends give me a hard time for it. Lol Anyway, my long time friend DJ Keoki showed up at my house one day, plugged into my sound system and blew me away with his Denon Prime Go! I love how compact and self contained it is, so I ordered one for myself! Anyway, it will be nice to finally take the time to learn some of the more modern features of this gear and take it on the road with me! Cheers!

    Since I have that Prime 4, I don't need this one. But, you're on point with this review. The features on the Prime Go is way better than on the controller I had before the Prime 4.

      Yes, for the size, this standalone packs one heck of a punch. However, this *is not* a Prime 4 replacement, in my opinion. It's a great supplement!

    Great controller! I only wish they use the layout of the stanton scs4dj for their version 2. Stanton was just bought by Denons mothercompany so they could do that. Have fun making a mix while sitting on the sofa, in the garden, ... just about everywhere!

    You can turn up the headphone volume by swiping down from the top.

      Yes, but it just does not get very loud for me. I'll retry your suggestion, and maybe even plug it in to see if there is a difference. Not a huge deal, just something i noticed (compared to my prime 4).

    I Agree the headphone volume is low and i agree they need to have the screen tilt. Its amazing to use with a wireless XLR solution. For the pitch i Noticed that i did end up moving the it as opposed to the up fader, but still had issues with touching the jog dial on the other side if i did not pay attention. All in all this a minor issues and this rig is a must have!!

      Have you figured out how to sort the music In Tidal by BPM when using the Prime Go? cant seem to figure it out for the life of me.

    • @DJSt3rling
      @DJSt3rling  4 года назад +1

      @@jumapesa Good question. It does not appear to be possible to sort streams at this time. For example: I created a Tidal playlist, and each track in the playlist has been analyzed and displays waveform/key/bpm data. Even then, I can not sort the list by BPM. However, I'm confident that a very near-future update will address this!

    Hi I'm a new djing only got back into it 2 months ago - although 20 years back I had a dj business. I'm in the trade involved in events so have lots of knowledge. I tried so many different controllers. Kept away from Pioneer because they seem overpriced and too much hope. Denon is so much value for money and the quality is awesome too. Started with the MC4000 (amazing) than the Mcx8000 (superb too). The MC4000 didn't have enough inputs and for not much more got the Mcx8000 but tbh was disappointed with the standalone of this mixer. This bothered me alot. Managed to get a Prime 4 for a great price this blew my mind and I thought why am I messing with serato and laptops when this does everything I needed it to do and love the simplicity and intuitive nature of this unit. After I had this didn't want to touch serato.
    Got rid of the MCX8000 quickly.
    I ordered a MC7000 as a second controller for the DJs I hire who use serato. It just so happened that someone offered me a Prime 2 for a bargain. Now the MC7000 has to go bcoz the DJs I hire can run serato from the prime 4 and I can use the Prime 2 side by side.
    Now the question is this should I get rid of prime 2 for a Go.
    The 2nd mixer is to be a backup and for use at small events. The prime 2 it is so easy to jump from the Prime 4 to the 2 and jog dials are the same so it feels very comfortable. Should I stick to this combination or get the go. I love the portability and as you mentioned most of the work is preperation. Finding myself spending alot of time on the pc doing this. What puts me off the prime go is 1 the screen not angled the prime 2 is perfect even though its rigid. Also the jog dials on the go look like a joke and hardly anyone talks about these... And now you mentioned the low headphone volume. Important as I will be using it for events..
    What are your thoughts?

    • @DJSt3rling
      @DJSt3rling  4 года назад +3

      Short answer: Unless portability is a strong desire, I think that the Prime 2 will be the better option for you.
      The Prime GO is a great *portable* setup. With that in mind (portability), here is how it may be less beneficial for your application:
      1. Less real estate to be creative. The cluttered layout can be confusing and lead to more mistakes, especially if switching back and forth between the Prime GO & 4.
      2. Prime GO has less convenient output options.
      3. Can't disable the crossfader on the GO, but you can on the 2 & 4.
      4. As you mentioned, the larger jog wheels on the Prime 2 & 4 will be more convenient for playing certain genres.
      5. Prime 2 has dual FX engines + more on sweep FX. Prime GO definitely lacks on both.
      The only thing you'll really gain from the Prime GO is portability and convenience. I'd save the GO for less professional settings, or set prep. It is very *cool* to have. But I think that the Prime 2, paired with the Prime GO is the better lineup for professional applications.
      Before you decide anything, I'd suggest that you *try* the Prime GO first! You may like it more, and it may do everything that you need. I will say this... it is so new and cool, that even if you don't need it, it's nice to have just to play with. However (not to be confusing), I'd still suggest the 2 for you (based on need/features).

    • @LuxuryDreamEvents
      @LuxuryDreamEvents 4 года назад +1

      @@DJSt3rling indeed I believe you have hit the nail on the head. Your analysis and reasoning is spot on. Thank you. But just out of curiosity why does nobody mention or avoid talking about the jog wheels on the go. They seem to be a let down. What do you think? Could be a future video for you. I reckon most of top reviewers I'm a bit weary of these reviews because they seem to be in collusion with the companies involved.

    • @DJSt3rling
      @DJSt3rling  4 года назад +2

      @@LuxuryDreamEvents Yes. So I have, in fact, heard a *few* mentions of the small jog wheels. However, I think it will be a "given" (compromise), since the controller is marketed as being ultra-portable. Me personally- I'm a house DJ. So I actually do not touch the crossfader & jog wheels very much at all. Majority of my transition-magic is helped by EQ's, FXs, loops, and hot cues. :) I still highly suggest you get your hands on a Prime GO controller and give it a run!

    I have a P4 (haven't used it yet because of COVID19), but I already think I should've got the GO as for portability only. I know the P4 is the flagship, and I totally adore the screen, but believe that the GO would be so much fun by just its size.
    I would definitely sell my 4 with it's new ProX case and save me a lot of space (literally).

      @@DJSt3rling - Thanks. I bought it on impulse, mainly because I liked the promise of a more tactile DJ experience. I also appreciate the premium build quality and high-end components. Ironically, the lack of a touchscreen was actually a selling point for me. I didn’t want to buy another piece of tech that will quickly become outdated. Rane and Denon are consanguineous, and share much of the same DNA. If the Rane works out, I may invest in a SC6000M Prime setup, which essentially combines the best of Rane and Denon into one system. I find that I can’t get too excited about anything Pioneer is doing; their stuff does nothing for me.
