To recap what he's saying: Be humble enough and respectful enough to ask for advice from a mentor who is willing to give it, but remember their life path is not yours, so yes take the advice and more importantly think about the context or situations that may have led said mentor to give this advice, this is far more valuable than the advice itself for a multitude of reasons....great answer.
What a great response & great clip of the conversation. The parenting part is something I struggle with daily. I find my self telling my kids that they shouldn’t do this, they shouldn’t do that & I realize exactly what lex mentioned....I’m putting them in my box rather than letting them be their own autonomous being. Thanks for the reminder lex!
The problem with this question is that the advice comes from having had a lot of life experience and slowly realising how little you knew when you were younger. You need to realise how much you don't know before you are willing to take/ask for advice. When you are young you have no reference point, you think older people are boring/stupid and that you and your generation know what is right. We all go through it and then when we try to help younger people to not make the same mistakes we did they don't listen (just like we didn't listen)
Can't make the fundamental assumption that every young person will not take advice from older generations because there are exceptions. You are still correct when addressing an average young person though.
I feel you. I've only started to realize the real value of advice i received as a child from my father only after going through certain things in my life in my 20s. Maybe thats what it took to understand the assumption stack my father had to see the value of the advice 🤔
@@Psychoma99 there are exeptions in every aspect of life, and when people talk about stuff they usually refer to the avarage mass of people that includes most of us. So there is no reasons to say that not everybody is like that. ( reason for saying this is because it reminds me of that one person in school, college and work who tries to defend himself i.e. when the whole group does something wrong and gets called out for that, that person always says : WeLl nOt EvErYbOdY iS bAd) :D
Could be that sometimes it's necessary to make the mistakes to learn from them, and that there is knowledge that can be gained from experience, even if it is experience of making mistakes, that cannot be gained purely through knowledge from others experience. When addressing Beautiful anything. See it as if you are the creater far beyond the illusion of it's appearance. But more along the lines of a Grandfather Destiny and long term Grace and Goals. This concept is like The parent. The Man The leader who wants best for you. In this way. You are the most Beautiful of all. The undelining elements that make the whole are farore important. And always unseen and undistinguishable. If I look at your rib under x-ray. How can You say it is you. But You deffinatley have a beginning origin all the way back To Adam. And God. The Universe. When truly in it and under fire. Love Beauty Humanity truly becomes most visible within yourself.
I wish he had asked the guest to elaborate on the precise meaning of the term "assumption stack" and why he chooses to use the word "stack" rather than merely "assumptions". Sure, I have some vague idea about what is meant, but that's all I have. Is he referencing the last in first out data structure, or the colloquial term?
He speaks in the ways we speak about neural networks. Stacks and spaces are words often used to understand both the structure and behavior of neural networks. This man has both realized and integrated the knowledge that he too is a neural network.
It's the "stack" of all assumptions and paradigms that lead the person to give the specific advice. In short, ask yourself WHAT makes your mentor give the advice.
@@T-Truth thank you for the clear and concise explanation. That's all they had to say. Not sure why they made it unnecessarily vague and abstract by repeating "assumption stack"
Not necessarily I don't think. As lex points out, our axioms/assumptions form our person, to re evaluate them is no where near as simple as just being aware that the environment is changing. Awareness of the environment changing is a starting point, but it is painful, difficult, and time consuming to re-invent yourself from the axioms up. Most people can only invent themselves once, hell, some people don't manage to adapt to their environment in the first place, much less continue to re-invent themselves to adapt to the environment as it changes.

Keep asking this question Lex, as young person, I love it. I loved what Sergey said and I loved what Bryan said.
as an old person, I do too.
Probably one of my favorite answers to Lex's "Advice for young people" question
You should make a playlist of the all answers you’ve gotten
Anyone can create a playlist. It will saved him some work. All clips already exist
You should do it for him! I believe in you!
What's the question he asked?

"People ask for advice but they dont take advice" So true including my self large part of my life
Same here but I would evaluate and retain it.

that's a thought I was literally missing

Great video lex. Important info for young people.

Best advice ever.

Damn, that’s good advice
There's a certain type of person that always asks for advice but never takes any of it. I call them "askholes".
Ask a stupid person for advice so you can know what not to do

Is there a reason why they choose the word “stack” rather then set or just saying assumptions?
bc they are nerds. lol

1:45 please don't look at me, it is very awkward.
Wasn't it Scott Adams who invented the whole idea of a "stack"?
Beautiful
This piece of advice seems to make the assumption that the person giving the advice is not aware of the evolving nature of their environment.
I thing it assumes we are all aware of the evolving nature of our environment to different degrees
