    Fun fact: Krupp is still around these days. The name is from a very influential 400 year old German family dynasty, that have been very successful in the weapon and steel manufacturing business. They merged with Thyssen AG in 1999, now going by the name Thyssen-Krupp.
    I used to work for a company that built shipping containers and Thyssen-Krupp were our main steel supplier, pretty cool to think about.

      Probably comparable to the M-56 Scorpion, most likely better than a Sturmtiger. Considering the PAK 43 is in essence a trailed gun much lighter than even the Waffentrager, I imagine it's all down to how much ground you're able to disperse recoil in. Still, good thing the Panzer 38 suspension design was so tough!

      I wonder how often those problems actually were Hitlers doing. He was an idiot but it seems like he gets blamed for every design flaw. Either he micromanaged more than a Hearts Of Iron player 23 hours a day or people are scapegoating him almost as bad as he scapegoated the Jews. like:
      "Captain Heinrich, my boot laces were too thin and they snapped when i tried to tighten them."
      "Goddamn you Hitler, dont you know laces need to stand up to at least 16lb of torque!?!"

  • @Hunter12396
    @Hunter12396 6 лет назад +39

    0:52 The frontal armor of the Löwe was 100mm or 120mm depending on the design. The three designs that were projected to weigh 90 tons would have had 120mm of armor. (Panzertracts 20-1)
    0:57 The cannon that was to be used on the Löwe was for some time the 10,5cm L/70 yes, but originally it had been a 15cm L/52. By the end of development it was changed again to a 15cm L/40. (Panzertracts 20-1)
    1:10 "Maresal" is pronounced "Mah-re-shal" not "Marshall" (Joshua Martinez, expert on the Maresal)
    1:24 The Jagdpanzer 38(t) was never known as the "Hetzer". Hetzer was the nickname for the E-10 that allied intelligence mistakenly assigned to the Jagdpanzer 38(t) (CIOS Report XXVI-13 "Reich Ministry of Armaments and War Production" + Hillary Louis Doyle expert opinion + absence of evidence to the contrary)
    4:42 The roadwheels and tracks for the Jagdpanzer 38(t) were the same as those on the Panzer 38(t)
    3:45, 4:48 These are Swiss G-13s, not a Jagdpanzer 38(t)s (You can tell by the gun barrel, which widens slightly when it meets the gun mantlet, the real Jagdpanzer 38(t) did not have this)
    5:10 Panzer IV production was *planned* to cease because the Panzer IV was obsolete. Resources would be redirected to the StuG IV, Panther, and later Jagdpanzer 38(d) (Note (d) not (t)). While production of the Panzer IV slowed down, it was never totally stopped, nor was it meant to be replaced with the Jagdpanzer 38(t), which was being produced in Czechoslovakia.
    8:14 MK 103 cannons. MK stands for Machinenkanone, not "Mark"
    9:34 At least one Kugelblitz saw combat in Berlin. It was knocked out on the intersection of Potsdamer Straße and Bülowstraße, by the U-bahnhof. A photo was taken of the wreck with three Russians and one Western Allied soldier on July 11th, 1945. (Hillary Louis Doyle confirms this is a Kugelblitz, as the front hull above the driver's position is level with the engine deck, on the regular Panzer IV this area was sloped slightly. Google the above details and I'm sure you can find the photo)
    11:58 No, it wasn't.
    12:10 E-50 was a medium tank. It shared a hull design with the E-75, which was the heavy tank. They would have replaced the Panther and Tiger II respectively.
    12:21 The E-100 was planned to mount either a 15cm or 17cm gun. (Panzertracts 6-3) The idea that it would have mounted a 12,8cm gun is conjecture based on the idea Germany was trying to finish the hull as quickly as possible in the dire late-war situation with a Maus turret. According to Gerd Stieler von Heydekampf in one of the BIOS reports (Interrogation report XXVII-47 I believe) the E-100's gun was changed to a 10,5cm cannon due to the more powerful engine not being available and having to use the Tiger II engine instead. I have not been able to confirm this claim but it should be considered as it comes from the head of the Panzerkommission.
    14:20 I believe the number was 12, but I don't have a source in front of me to confirm this.
    16:15 This is a Sd.Kfz.300 Minenräumwagen B I, it is not related to the Sd.Kfz.301 schwerer Ladungsträger Borgward B IV
    18:34 This is the Sd.Kfz.300 Minenräumwagen B II "Ente", again, not related to the B IV

      the Jagpanzer 38(t) is called a Hetzer in the memoirs of atleast some german soldiers. while it was never officially called the Hetzer, it is possible (according to atleast some historians) that is was an unofficial nick name (intended to be also used by the E-10), it is also possible that these soldiers picked up the name later and used it as it was recognized (what Hillary thinks) which may be true but we don't have any proof of this (ie it may or may not have been known to the soldiers during ww2 as the Hetzer)

Germans see pontential and mount on hs 129 big gun 75mm pak 43 with some difference but engines was to weak for this gun and limite aircraft performanse.

      Actually it was kind of ironic getting the MK 103 avaiable for the Kugleblitz. The German industry output was alwas to small compared by the request by army, navy and luftwaffe alwas a struggle among those to get more guns, engines, steel, fuel ect. But when luftwaffe more or less stopped to be effective there suddently was lower request of this gun and navy too stopped to request it so there were actual piles of this gun avaible to army so they able to drop the 2cm kwk38 and 37 mm..

    I'm confused, which is the actual lowe at the beginning of the video, the rear turreted one or the center turreted one, because as being a world of tanks player the rear turreted one is a vk72.01 (I think that's what it is) and the other center turret is the actual lowe model in the game, but I'm just taking that from the game so I'm most likely wrong

    • @williamtrf-g5995
      @williamtrf-g5995 4 года назад

      Both are correct designs. There were two designs proposed for the Lowe, unofficially nicknamed 'Schwerer Lowe' (Heavy Lion), and 'Leichter Lowe' (Light Lion). The Leichter had a rear mounted turret and would have weighed 76 tonnes, with a 10.5 cm (4.1 in) L/70 high velocity gun and 100mm of frontal armour, but would have maxed out at 27 km/h. The Schwerer had the centrally mounted turret, coming in at 90 tonnes. Initially it had 120mm of frontal armour, a top speed of 23 km/h, and was armed with the aforementioned gun. However, it was later redesigned, giving it 140mm of armour, and an 88mm gun, and the top speed was brought up to 37 km/h. The VK 72.02 K is a design (I think it may be fictitious, though) based on the Leichter. The 'K' stands for Krupp, since the Lowe was Krupp steel's design for a super-heavy, competing with Porsche's Maus, and later the E-100.
      Just to cite my sources, I took my numbers from the Wikipedia page, so take some of the details with a grain of salt. Some archive digging, reading up on any of Hilary Doyle's notes/books, etc would yield more accurate data, but I hope this helped clarify.
