Should hear them at the Kennedy Honors sing Led Zeppelin Stairway To Heaven. It's the only cover that the band approved of.

Don't know if Nancy is on either of the 3 electrics, but she's on the acoustic electric Ovation rhythm guitar. Howard Leese did most of the leads and the keyboards. On this cut the drummer is a session player. Roger Fisher is probably on one of the electric rhytm guitars. It could be Nancy on an overdub doing the arpeggio upswing or it's Howard Leese.

The "Magic Man" is Mike Fisher. He was an American who had gone to Canada to avoid being drafted into Vietnam War. He came across the border & went to Ann's concert when she was with Hocus Pocus where they immediately fell in love.
After Nancy joined the band in '74 they wrote "Magic Man" & released it in '75. It became their first number one hit!
Ann shared: "It’s absolutely my leaving home song. My mother wasn’t all too sure that the best thing for me was to-even though I was already 21, she wasn’t sure that I should be jumping into this full-time sexual cohabitational relationship with somebody in a whole other country. She was calling me, going, ‘What are you up to? C’mon, I don’t know if you should be going this. Come on back! Be careful, give it some thought!’ And I was just like, ‘Nope, nope, I’m gone! I’m in!’ It was love at first sight that lasted for about eight years! But “Magic Man” was definitely written about the spell that I was under and my conversations with my mother about it at the time."
    Next suggestions:
"Stairway To Heaven" Live at Kennedy Center Honors
    "Crazy On You"
    "Alone"

Okay you need to check out Heart doing a performance honoring Led Zeppelin at Kennedy Center doing Stairway to Heaven. Anyone who’s anyone was there. They’re all much older obviously, but it was sweet watching Robert Plant (lead singer) all older and getting emotional over being honored as a legend. And they also had the drummer’s son (the drummer passed) do the drums on it. It was amazing! Best rendition!! You’ll love it 👌🏼❤️🔥

@@brittanygarrison8030perhaps you should check out the Heart tribute to LZ, before dismissing it so off-handedly. LZ themselves love Heart, and approved of them doing covers.
If nobody ever did a song someone else had done, the world would be poorer for it.

You said you wish you could have seen her play guitar. But you still can. They're not dead! And they still tour. Sometimes as Heart. Sometimes the Lovemongers. And assorted solo and group projects. Still good. I'm a member of the fan club, and Ann always sends updates, messages, offers, and tour dates. You should check it out. Peace!

    Heart - "Stairway To Heaven"
Live at the Kennedy Center Honors 🎖
John Paul, Robert, & Jimmy (sitting in that order) were so amazed & emotional by the amazing cover of their iconic song. Only Ann & Nancy could have delivered such an epic performance. It was perfection. John Bonham's (drummer) son Jason surprised them by playing the drums to honor his Dad. 🙏🏻 RIP "Bonzo". Incredibly moving performance!

There's a really great live version of Crazy on You where Nancy is shown playing an awesome intro on acoustic. You should definitely check that out. Keep in mind tho that this band had two other male guitarists playing the electric guitar and most of the leads on that instrument were, I believe Mike Fisher, who also happened to be the magic man, if I'm not mistaken. 😉

Some trivia - Ann and Nancy lived in Kent, WA for awhile just after they hit number 1 with this song. I never met them personally, but a couple of my friends partied with them occasionally. I hear both ladies were very nice - no "I'm famous" vibes from them at all. I love their music too! ❤️

'Magic man' was written about singer Ann Wilson's first love - Michael Fisher, who was Heart's guitarist Roger Fisher's brother. In the early 70's, Michael was avoiding the Vietnam draft by living in Canada... he came to see Heart play in Washington state, and she fell in love w/ him. She actually left to live w/ him in Canada... the song came about Ann talking to her mom on the phone back in the US, who was pleading for her daughter to come back home. The other members of Heart moved to Canada to keep the band playing... her sister Nancy Wilson joined Heart in 1974, and she became romantically involved w/ Roger Fisher (the lead guitarist) ... So u had 2 sisters dating 2 brothers for a while... Sadly, both couples split up.
The move to Canada proved very important. Once there, they got the financing to record Heart's first album 'Dreamboat Annie' in 1975 and began their career in the US by 1976.

The line in this song "Come on home girl..." relates to Ann Wilson's mother. The line, "Try to understand, Mama, he's a magic man" is Ann's response. Wilson says that her mother helped keep her grounded when she was being rather irrational and acting under the spell of her "magic man." Could you please react to These dreams by Heart 🙂

    • @adnap
      @adnap 2 года назад +2

“The line in this song, Come on home girl…” “Relates to Ann Wilson’s mother.”
Not Empirically. Only in the second verse.
All of the other verses are Ann talking about him beckoning her to go home with him.
