  • Hello again. This episode is a direct 1:1 continuation of the previous episode, and features even more near suicidal mineshaft exploration. Shortly at the beginning I heard the sound of slimes jumping around, and for a while I was actually keeping this in the back of my mind. I wanted to find whatever chamber allowed these slimes to spawn, because collecting some slime would help with figuring out whether or not this version of Minecraft has leads or not. I have considered Googling it but as I've stated previously, I don't like Googling things about games. I think that the less you know about games like Minecraft, where exploration is a key part of the experience, the more fun they are. This may be the closest I will ever get to playing this game for the first time as a young child.
I would like to comment on the few random generations bugs I saw here, such as floating gravel and the floating torch in one of the passages a few minutes in. I think that randomly generated nonsense like this is one of the things that makes Minecraft so special. In other procedural games, bugs like this would be removed and refined, especially if the game is owned by a corporation. I think bugs like this are actually quite charming, and it always reminds me of the humility of Minecraft. It didn't start as a gigantic corporate tool or million dollar phenomena, it was just one mans passion project. I think that the charming, almost quaint nature of early Minecraft is an example of what many modern gamers would describe as "soul". The sort of imutable trait that appeals to the unseen, unheard "soul" of Man. Something that people can see and feel when playing the game, but can't necessarily describe. It's something that surpasses language, a beauty that is too good to be properly understood. That's how I would write it-- beauty expressed through art that we humans cannot possibly understand. The sort of flawed, yet perfect nature of it all. It's something that few games have these days, and tends to coincide with more imperfect technology and techniques. The idea of people "making do" with what little they have, and succeeding in creating something beautiful and deserving of praise despite their utter lack of resources. It's something I could write about for days, months even. A very complex topic that seems a little too large for a simple Minecraft let's play description.
As I'm sure you can see, in this episode is when I started to realize that my lack of food would be a serious problem for the rest of the expedition. I initially believed that you could starve to death in this game, and I was fully prepared to accept that on the surface, but I was quite glad to find I still had an opportunity to save myself. In the future, I hope to do lots of construction and organization for the base, particularly in terms of decoration.
